If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. How to get HD signal back?

ours is new and that’s what they told us.

Regardless of what? Is it a genesis process or Sirius? I know Sirius offers HD content, traffic info, etc. But the icons in the infotainment are Genesis product.

So I’m guessing Genesis is suppose to be processing HD signal broadcast content to those icons applications, yes?

So it looks like neither Genesis nor Sirius is responsible for this data source

HD Radio receives its traffic data directly from the radio station broadcasting the HD signal; the station itself gathers traffic information from local traffic providers and transmits it alongside the regular audio signal within the HD Radio data stream, allowing compatible receivers to display traffic updates on the radio screen.

Key points about HD Radio traffic data:
  • Integrated with the broadcast:
The traffic information is embedded within the HD Radio signal, not accessed through an external internet connection.

  • Local source:
Each radio station is responsible for providing traffic data relevant to their local area.

  • Radio Data System (RDS):
The technology used to transmit traffic data within the HD Radio signal is based on the existing RDS standard, which allows for the inclusion of various types of information like artist names and weather updates

So can you receive HD radio stations? How many? Picture please.
Are you getting sound?
Are you in the exact same location where you were able to receive data previously?

Yes. I have no clue - I only listen to one or 2 stations that provide HD , so I’ve looked for more or know how many broadcast in my area. None available - car still in shop. But while we were there yesterday before picking up the GV90 trail, I sat in the car with the salesman, after being told by service manager that it’s a paid feature, and listened to the HD radio broadcast with him, then went to the fuel prices , radar and traffic options and got no info available message.
Are you getting sound?
Yes
Are you in the exact same location where you were able to receive data previously?
Yes, we have been when previously tried. Yesterday no. But, also, on a 10 hour trip, through major metropolitan area and in the same area, I would expect to see the data. And if the service people say that they’ve seen it in other cars at the facility, but not ours, seems odd to me if we’re suppose to have it.

Well two possibilities.
1. Either you radio is broken in which case it’s Genesis’s responsibility to fix or replace
2. You have no HD stations broadcasting data in your area

To tell which one
Find a car (maybe at the dealer) that shows traffic, weather, fuel prices. Then get your car close by and see it your car shows these also.
If you can’t find a car that works correctly then it’s likely #2
If you find a car the shows the fuel prices, etc and you nearby car does not, then it’s #1

So it looks like #2. You have no HD stations broadcasting data in your area!
Nothing that you or Genesis can do about it except maybe talk to someone technical at one of HD radio stations

BTW, what city or town are you in?

No. If you see-2 after frequency , stands for HD 2. I’ve been saying that the HD radio had started back and still getting that

The HD2 only means there is another source on that frequency. It does not mean that any of the HD sources are transmitting the data you need.

Right, so the question is the same, who is responsible for transmitting the info for the 3 icons , free or paid service and how to get it to work - toggle a button or should it just show when info is being transmitted? Are they even still suppose to work ? As mentioned on the g90 I just bought I didn’t see any info there either.

Well here is my opinion
Who is responsible for transmitting the information
The HD radio station. They can do it but they don’t have to do it. That is they are not required to do anything
Free or paid
It is free
How to get it to work
nothing to do. It just works. Nothing to toggle, no button to push
Is it even supposed to work
Mine works fine. Maybe someone with a G90 can comment

Once again I’m asking, What is your location? What city are you in where it doesn’t work. If you can’t answer that, I can’t hep you

New Orleans , la. covington, la. Jacksonville , fl. car has been in all those areas and it's not worked. Tks!

So is there anyone on the forum that is in any of these cities, and does your HD data (weather, traffic, fuel prices) work?

So I called my sales guy back re: this issue. He insisted it should work, but it depend on the area the car is in. I went round and round with him and then he said it's "random" if it works. We talked for about 10 minutes and I had to call him back twice because he'd never called back. Bottom line: Their dealership was sold and the Genesis brand was taken away from them and they no longer sell them. He said he had none to look at and basically could care less.

So unless someone else chimes in and says they use the feature AND it works , we may pursue a fix. But, honestly , looks like its not a feature that works and we'd most likely not use it at his rate.

It certainly works for me. Do you have another dealer you can go to and see if their service dept can help. Makes no difference where you bought the car.

Yeah. It's in Covington in the shop now for the door handle recall - there since last Monday. There suppose to check the HD signal too. Will report back when we pick it up. BUT, we waited for the appointment for about 6 weeks and they had never ordered the door handle kits for some reason so were waiting for them to come in!

HD Radio technology allows broadcasters to transmit a high-quality digital signal that piggybacks traditional AM and FM frequencies. There is a separate HD tuner.
There is no "separate" HD tuner. The car's tuner has the capability to receive and decode the digital data from a station that is transmitting, along with its "base" analog audio channel (which is present to remain compatible with non HD tuners), multiple data streams that are transmitted. "HD Radio transmits the digital signals in unused portions of the same band as the analog AM and FM signals. As a result, radios are more easily designed to pick up both signals, which is why the HD in HD Radio is shorthand for "hybrid digital," not "high definition."

When tuning in a broadcast radio station, IF that station is transmitting an HD channel and your car detects that, the "HD))" logo will light up indicating that digital data is being detected on that station. It is the discretion of the station's operators as to what type of data is transmitted. Sub-channel -1 (i.e.: HD1) is required to be a digital audio duplicate of the analog audio transmitted on the base radio station frequency. Sub-channels HD2 and HD3 (if being included in the data streams transmitted by the radio station) can carry anything, even a completely separate audio program. Text data transmitted on the HD sub-channels is purely at the discretion of the station's operator.

Bottom line, if your car receiver's tuner is detecting a HD station and you are not getting any data you think is supposed to be there, it is most likely that the data is just not being transmitted by the radio station.

I may be mixing apples and oranges here- but I’m not even seeing traffic colors on map

Actually that isn’t quite yet the bottom line. Do you need to have the radio on and turned to or set as a preset to an HD2 station in order to get traffic and gas prices?

On my 2021 GV80 with the Gen6 Nav system I see traffic and other HD based data. I'm in Southern California. I do not have to tune any HD FM radio stations for this to happen either though I have several defined in the memory/preselects. I just very rarely listen to them. I've configured one of the two user-definable buttons (the star/asterisk) to jump to the HD radio menu page that has the Traffic, Doppler Radar, and Fuel Prices menu options. Touching the Traffic option displays a list of known traffic events. This works even when I'm tuned to a Sirius-XM channel. I'm not aware of any way to determine which FM/HD station(s) are broadcasting the traffic, radar, and fuel price data from inside the car. Going to the Internet web pages of local FM stations might give you info on which ones, if any, are broadcasting the necessary data.

I do have an active Connected Services (CS) subscription but that supposedly is not needed for the Traffic/Doppler Radar/Fuel Prices display options. Connected Services adds weather info (temps, rainfall predictions, etc.) and future forecasts for my local area plus whatever destination city is entered into the Nav system.

As others have posted, the data comes from FM radio stations broadcasting with the Hybrid Digital (HD) format with the necessary data encoded into the digital streams. Not all HD stations put the extra data into their streams... and not all FM stations even use HD. HD never really caught on especially outside larger metropolitan areas.

Earlier Hyundai/Genesis vehicles received traffic info from XM; that was a separate extra-cost add-on to the XM subscription. XM would get their traffic data from local cities and pass it through their data streams. Often it was several minutes behind traffic issues. Android and Apple cellphones are able to collect and transmit vehicle speed data so it is easy to aggregate lots of cell phone data to get more accurate real-time traffic info... and many folks use their cellphones for navigation. So there is less incentive for local FM radio stations to carry traffic and other data in their HD streams.
