How to take my Genesis apart?

Need some help here.....

My Genesis is ALMOST perfect.


The cabinet is so quiet except once in awhile two pieces of my dashboard rubbing each other and making some extremely annoying sounds!!!!

Granted. Most cars do that. In my previous cars, I just put something between the gaps and the rubbing sound would go away. But this time my Genesis’s fit and finish is soooo good that I cannot do the same trick.

On the picture, I label the two pieces A and B. My plan is to take B down and put it back. I know in the process of doing this I can find a way to stop the rubbing sounds……….but I do not know where to start.

Can someone tell me the steps to separate B from the dashboard?

It may be a bit of a hassle, but if you have a rattle/squeak, you should get Hyundai to fix it under warranty.

If you leave the car parked on the streets overnight in the Bronx or East LA, someone will take it apart for you.

You should have the dealer fix it for you. Sometimes it's hard to pinpoint a noise, it may be something behind there or coming from someplace near, but not exactly in that spot. The car should not be making a single, squeak, rattle or, hum. If it is, then there's something wrong.

sign up on www.hmaservice.com - it's free. Then you can access page by page versions of the factory service manuals (no direct/easy way to download the whole thing) which will show how to get into the dash.

or find a copy of "Genesis TSB 08-BE-010.pdf" which documents a TSB to replace steering wheel tilt/telescope limit switches... to do that job, the tech has to undo the dash stuff you're asking about. It has wonderful pictures of what to do and where the screws/fasteners are located.

In a nutshell though:
1: pull back the door weatherstrip a little bit. (the weatherstrip in your pic just to the left of the fuse box cover/hatch).

2: open the fuse box cover/hatch.

3: grab the side panel of the dash (via the fuse box hole) and snap it out. At least that's what it looks like in the TSB - that it just snaps in/out. (maybe this is your noise?) The TSB isn't too clear here... so be careful.

4: For the lower dash panel (cashmere part in your pics) there are three screws along the edge you just opened up, and three more at the bottom edge. There are several electrical connectors from that trim panel so be careful when it's free.

TJ - Actually I took it to the dealer and got the usual response: "Our technician could not reproduce the problem...." So I need to take the problem on my hold hand.

My squeeky noise issue is resolved. Just want to capture some knowledge here so other Genesis Owners may use in the future.

Regarding how to remove the crash pad side cover, you just pop it out!!

Once the side cover is removed, I can get to the root cause of the noise.

To my surprise, the noise was not due to two pieces of the dashboard rubbing each other as I first thought. It was two electric wires touching and rubbing each other. Once I separated the wires, the annoying noise is gone!!
