  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

HPP Extended Warranty

Is the powertrain warranty completely gone if I buy used, or does it just go down to 50k 6 years?
It goes down to 60K miles or 5 years from date of purchase by original owner.

You can ask any Hyundai dealer to tell you the original date of purchase (or date car was placed in service) by giving them your VIN.

You should visit the Hyundai website where they discuss all warranty details to find about any exclusions to the 60K miles or 5 year warranty, or other emissions warranties that go beyond that.

Regarding purchasing an extended warranty on a used car not purchased from a Hyundai dealer, I assume that the dealer mentioned above can tell you (Serena Mariani, First Hyundai, North Attleboro, MA).

6 Years 120,000 miles
0 deductible $ 1398

6 Years 120,000 miles
100 deductible $1298
Is this correct? Most of the extended warranties are to extend coverage to 10 years and 100,00K miles, which are total years/miles on the OD, and not incremental.

Serena is great. She sold me my HPP about a year ago and they had the best price. Once it was purchased and I received a contract number I contacted my dealership and they told me my HPP was in the Hyundai database.

Yup, it's correct. You can get all different mileage and years. Depends on your needs. Here is a website as an example:

http://www.officialhyundaiwarranty.com/default.asp?state=OH

Nobody would want to pay for a 100k price if they only drive (for arguments sake) 5k miles a year. Or in my case, I don't want to pay for 10 years if my warranty is up in 5 or 6 years due to my excessive mileage per year.

I probably read your post somewhere which is how I found her. For every make of car I've owned, there is always the one dealer that heavily discounts the extended warranties price in exchange for volume. I had some difficulty finding her with Hyundai, so I purchased my HPP from the dealer after negotiating $200 off the quoted price......and then I found Serena.

Car forums are so amazing with all the great stuff you learn from others. This forum in the short time I've been here, has been great.

With regards to the Platinum extended warranty covering the HIGH TECH Electronics found on the 2015 Genesis. The badly worded what is not covered is just that. I had to email Hyundai several times to get clarification of the wording and if the electronics found on the Ultimate version of the vehicle were covered. Hyundai responses were just as vague. I finally asked if there was someone else I need to speak to. The last email that Hyundai sent me stated that their warranty is handled by Safeguard (a company that Hyundai owns) and that they Safeguard would have to answer my concerns on what is or not covered irst clue that something is wrong. I emailed Safeguard with the same query, Hyundai/Safeguard called me directly Dan Monday and Ernest Davis. They both said that any Electronics that have Radar (Your Active Cruise control, The near avoidance System, Lane assist, Rear cross traffic systems and any other system that utilizes radar IS NOT COVERED. They would not send that to me in writing. Please do what I did and continue to request clarification you might be surprised like I was.

Just read a couple of post were Hyundai was not covering the Radar modules for the ACC system one of many radar assisted systems. I hope more potential Hyundai Genesis buyers will read this post Or that Hyundai America will change its ambiguous language regarding the High End and very costly radar modules in their Platinum HPP Warranty.

Climate control is also not covered. 2015 Models: 3 years/36,000 miles covered. 2016 and forward: 5 year/60,000 miles.

As for ACC, I believe this is covered by your auto insurance policy. You'd have to file a claim.

The ambiguous nature of the HPP warranty you mentioned has been discussed on this forum for about the last 7-8 years. It is safe to say by now that it is intentional, and borders on fraud IMO.

Given all the so-called "radar" systems that are now standard in the G80, an extended warranty that does not include them is of limited benefit, especially if one has the 10 year - 100K mile powertrain warranty.

I was reading my warranty for the HPP I purchases for my 2012 R-Spec. It was a platinum plan for 0 dollars deductible.

The lingo under III. Exclusions states..... It also states "SYSTEMS NOT FACTORY INSTALLED OR APPROVED." Does this mean if your radar cruise is factory installed it is covered? Does your G80 warranty form state the same thing listed below?

14. UNDER PLATINUM COVERAGE, ANY OF THE FOLLOWING PARTS: STANDARD TRANSMISSION CLUTCH COMPONENTS, AIR BAGS, SOLAR
POWERED DEVICES, HINGES, GLASS, LENSES, SEALED BEAMS, BODY PARTS AND/OR PANELS, TRIM, MOLDINGS, DOOR HANDLES, LOCK
CYLINDERS, TIRES, WHEELS, BATTERIES, LIGHT BULBS, UPHOLSTERY, PAINT, BRIGHT METAL, FREEZE PLUGS, HEATER AND RADIATOR HOSES,
EXHAUST SYSTEM. AUDIO, SECURITY, IN-VEHICLE COMMUNICATIONS AND/OR ENTERTAINMENT OR OTHER SYSTEMS NOT FACTORY
INSTALLED OR APPROVED. WORK SUCH AS FRONT-END ALIGNMENT OR WHEEL BALANCING, SAFETY RESTRAINT SYSTEMS, CELLULAR
PHONES, ELECTRONIC TRANSMITTING DEVICES (EXCEPT FOR THOSE SPECIFICALLY LISTED UNDER GOLD COVERAGE), RADAR DETECTORS,
APPLIANCES, NEAR OBJECT AVOIDANCE SYSTEMS AND ALL LASER RADAR CRUISE CONTROL COMPONENTS, VINYL AND CONVERTIBLE
TOPS;

This has been debated for many years on this forum. It's not clear what they meant.

One interpretation is that they are excluding any after-market equipment installed by the owner. Another interpretation is that they are excluding the factory installed safety features that rely on radar signals to work.

If you want clarification, I would ask HMA who issues the warranty (don't ask the dealer, they only sell it and they are not lawyers) and get a reply in writing.

I just called up Jim Ellis for a quote on an extended warranty for 2017 5.0 G80 Ultimate. They quoted me verbally 10/0/100K for $2795.00.

Local dealership that has the car quoted me $1999.00.

What is your local dealership? I am trying to get wqarranty quotes form dealers. Any suggestions other than Jim Ellis?

When I was at the dealer, I was informed that Hyundai does not have an HPP plan for their 2017 G80. I had to get a Zurich extended warranty and even then the form is going to have to changes.

My credit union who uses Mercury insurance for an extended warranty does not have the Genesis G80 on their books for an extended warranty.

That is the biggest load of horse hockey ever. What they meant to say was, "we make more profit off 3rd Party Contracts than with Hyundai."

That is probably the case. These guys are nothing but crooks. I put a call into a few dealerships to see what they can offer me.

Please let me know what dealerships have good deals on the HPP.

What would be nice, find an *honest* F&I person whom would sell the HPP contracts to folks on our website for a discount.

The F&I people get a commission for selling the extended warranties, and is usually a big part of their take home pay.

Thanks for the help on this. i was able to talk my dealer down from $1900 to $1150 for a 10/100,000 wrap warranty on my 2015 Genesis.
