If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

HPP Extended Warranty

Thanks for the help on this. i was able to talk my dealer down from $1900 to $1150 for a 10/100,000 wrap warranty on my 2015 Genesis.

Wow! Seriously? I paid $2375 for a 10/120/0 warranty and it's got the same coverage as the HPP Platinum, but it's not from Hyuandai. That's incredible.

The CPO wrap warranty doesn't need to cover the powertrain (engine and transmission) since that is included in a CPO vehicle for 10/100.

But that's included in the Platinum Plan. I didn't know you can negotiate on that and get it removed from the coverage and get a lower cost on the extended warranty. Even the $1900 is much lower than what I have been quoted by dealers here. $2800 was the standard quote.

I am just saying that I believe (based on others who have posted on this forum) that there is a CPO Wrap Plan that is supposedly cheaper than the HPP Platinum because it is non-transferable (since the CPO 10/100 powertrain warranty is non-transferable). The normal extended warranty HPP Platinum is transferable.

What you were "quoted" is completely irrelevant. When I purchased my Genesis new, I was quoted $3500 for the HPP Platinum, then quoted $2500, then quoted $2000. They can quote anything they want to quote you. The dealer cost about 5 years ago for the HPP was $1050 for the first generation Genesis sedan according to some Hyundai insiders who posted on this forum (I am sure it is higher now).

Also keep in mind that ACC and RCC aren't covered under the HPP warranty. I've also heard that Hyundai balks at warrantying the steering control module, as its placement makes it vulnerable to road debris damage. Several other non-Hyundai warranties DO cover these items. Look over all of the specifics of each plan, including their business hours. Many that I saw close at 6pm CST, which may not seem bad until you are stranded on the side of the road at 11pm.

which non hyundai warranties cover those items the ACC and RCC?

thanks

tom

Safe Guard is one. Ironically, they also manage HPP for Hyundai. But, their business hours suck.

What's ACC and RCC?

howdy gang, i just bought a 2017 g90 ultimate awd yesterday. used with less than 4k miles on it from a cadillac dealer. so no cpo. however, i searched all over for the car i wanted and most of the g90s i called about that were at genesis (or hyundai) dealers were NOT CPO. several dealers told me that it cost them too much to make it cpo and they didnt want to do it and that they could sell you a 3rd party warranty for not much more than it would cost them to cpo the car and it would be a better warranty. i am not debating the warranty if it is better from genesis or 3rd party, just that this is what i was told.

in fact, the only cpo g90 that i called about and was cpo was used by the dealers family and was not ever titled so wasnt cpo, but being sold as a new car with a fair amount of miles on it so the original warranty and services was still in place.

just saying what i ran into, not saying it is the same experience for everyone.

btw, the car is amazing. white with black interior.

tom

I paid 1500 for my 10 year/100k CPO Wrap Platinum warranty on the 2015 Genesis I bought last month.

It doesn't cover ACC/RCC? The exact line infers that it doesn't cover radar detectors that were not factory installed, but not to those that are.

"Audio/security or other systems not factory installed, cellular phones, radar detectors, appliances, or vinyl and convertible tops" from my contract for the platinum CPO wrap

This has been a point of confusion for about 9 years. The lawyers worded it very imprecisely, and that has led to different interpretations of what the meaning is. Calls to HMA have not cleared up the matter, since sometimes they say one thing, and at other times they say something else.

Where did you purchase your warranty from?

Where did you purchase your warranty from?

A dealer in Mahwah NJ. They listed it for 1995$ However, since I purchased it along with vehicle, they gave me that discount (though I probably paid for it with a lower discount on vehicle purchase price itself)

So the wrap warranty is slightly different than the regular extended warranty?

I just called USAA, and their warranty is only for 5 years/100k miles

I'm with USAA as well. I got the HPP coverage platinum 10/100.

Just an FYI to you all, SafeGuard manages the HPP extended service contract. They have a good rating, but they are pricey.

I may be going to buy my car on Sunday, although I'll probably end up low balling and getting tossed out on my ass 😜

It seems like $2500 is the "normal" price for HPP, but some people have said they've gotten it for less, recently. And USAA is $1500, albeit for a shorter timespan

I don't think there is a "normal" price. Back in about 2011, the dealer cost for the 10 year - 100K HPP extended warranty was about $1,050, according to a member of this forum who claimed to know. It's probably less than $1,500 now, and if so, it seems like some dealers should be willing to sell it for $2,000.

The dealer (usually the finance person) can make an initial offer at any price they want and then negotiate down from there.

The F&I guy I talked to last weekend didn't want to budge off of $2571.

So what? All I am saying is that they can sell it for anything they want, and the dealer cost is less than $1500.
