  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hyundai Equus Roll Call!

As I had suggested before, you may do better posting on an appropriate thread instead of multiple times on threads that have nothing to do with your subject, but has the name Equus in the thread.

I also suggested to go to the section on the Genesis side of the board that has radio/nav issues since systems are the same in the Genesis and Equus.

That being said, since you're already here-I'd also like to know who the dealership is. I'm also quite perplexed because I would think replacing the nav system with a brand new one would solve your issue...unless maybe the software is located somewhere else, then replacing that should solve it (sorry I'm no techie). But this is where posting in an appropriate place may help...people with a lot more insight might read in the "electrical" section.

I had a Genesis with a radio/nav issue which was eventually solved. There was never any time that this affected the driveability of the car. The problem was isolated to the "tech" system and I'm not sure why you would jump to the conclusion that the whole car is unsafe. It's not like you're going to drive across the Alabama border and disappear. Personally, I wouldn't expect any "fault codes" to show up as those relate to the engine and it's operation and clearly this is not an engine issue....more evidence that your car is otherwise not affected by the nav system issue.

In my case, my dealership AND Hyundai were very responsive and things were resolved to my satisfaction. I was contacted by Hyundai consumer affairs and assigned a rep and a case number and we were in regular contact. If you are for real, document everything, have an accurate accounting of how long you have been with AND without your vehicle and research the lemon laws in your state.

Just dawned on me:
Maybe we should check our maps for Alabama? If the OP's is missing, wouldn't ours have to be too? I'll do it tonight!
(If it's not there, maybe we can start a class action suit?)
I've always wanted to try the Sonata!
:D

I'm calling BS. Equus owners are give another Equus or a Genesis to drive as loaners, not Sonatas. And, if Navteq somehow DID screw up and leave Alabama off the map, how would you expect a fault "code" to appear?
To recap:
1. Your sound system didn't 'sound' good and you ignored it for 6500 miles.
2. Your map doesn't show Alabama (feature or bug?) so you questioned whether your traction control was next to go.
3. You cut and pasted that on 3 different threads here, Edmunds, and who knows where else.
And if by some slim chance you're telling the truth, which dealer did you purchase from? I'm pretty sure prospective buyers would like to avoid it lest they be stuck with a Sonata too.

BS??? You have to be kidding.
This Equus owner did not get an Equus or Genesis to drive.
I'm not a tech so I was trying to explain that there should be a way for the system to communicate it's problem.
The reason I waited to fix the sound system was I didn't think it was worth putting the car in the shop until it's first service.
I hope the missing Alabama is a "bug" not a feature. If you don't understand why I have lost confidence in the electronics I'm not even going to try to explain it.
The car was Purchased at Hyundai of Cool Springs in Nashville Tennessee.
I have no reason to lie about my car.

The car has been to 2 dealers for repair. The selling dealer and a dealership in Alabama. Both of them have bent over backwards to fix this problem. The problem has been that Hyundai can not figure out what to do. The dealers have been fantastic.

I feel like I'm hijacking the roll call thread...sorry, move it if need be.

First of all, you should be getting a Genesis or an Equus as a loaner. You paid for that privilege when you bought the Equus. It's great that you feel the dealerships are being decent, but this is part of Hyundai's deal with the dealerships...all Equus owners must have a Genesis or better to drive. It's not about being a snob, it's what you paid for and what the dealership said they would do in order to sell the Equus. It's their obligation.

Again, document EVERYTHING. Let it be known you are keeping a timeline as well as a running total of attempts made to fix it, as well as the time you have posession of the car and how long they have the car.

It should have been escalated (already) to Hyundai consumer affairs, and tell them you want to open up a case.

Know the lemon laws in your state. You may consider speaking with an attorney. Really, I'm sure the car is safe to drive, however at this point, I might refuse to take it back until it is fixed.

Really, this is the strangest complaint I've ever heard. I'll have to check my car as well!

Good luck, NOLa

You "feel" for the troll who chose to ignore his original "problem" for 6500 miles? And conflates a missing state with safety issues? Interesting.
And you want us to email you with comments about the air suspension? Because the numerous words on these boards are too tough to wade through?
Btw, nice job working in the words "bone jarring" and "rough ride".

Have a nice day!

Hmmmm, thanks! I guess the next time any of us have an opinion we should come to you 1st before posting. If your having a rough day, it would be appreciative if left at the door. The new car purchase is one of the largest budgets a household can make and the stress in the search all the way to the dealership process can be overwhelming. These forums and members help us all to make the most sound decision. We are all here to help eachother afterall.

And you as well have a nice day.

:welcome:Here are a few pictures of my Grey-on-Grey Sig. I picked it up Jan 3rd. Had the rear emblem installed.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
That's a one sweet ride. Can't wait for 2012 to be released and upgrade my gennie.

I am thinking of getting one too, and would wait for a 2012. We don't have an authorized dealership in town. I may have to "settle" for a Genesis or take a drive.

Anyone know when the 2012 arrives?

We picked up our Equus Signature Platinum Metallic/Black on Friday Augest 26, 2011. Dealer has ordered us the Equus badge for trunk lid. Now all that is left is to get the windows tinted to help beat the heat. Terrific car, put 250 miles on it first two days!:)

Welcome to the new owners.

I purchased the rear emblem from Import Shark.

I joined this forum last week and have spent quite a few hours reading the information posted by members, I would like to say "Thanks" to those who have posted. The information has been very helpful in discovering the many features of this fine machine. I have read the manuals but the navigation system will take some time to fully understand. Does anyone have any tips on what type of window tinting that will help with the Texas heat?

Sorry for not seeing your question earlier. The emblems are made by KDM and are available in a few different places. EBAY has the best deals right now. You can search for Equus Emblem, or this link takes you to the lowest price one ($9.99 plus $4.00 shipping):

Here is a link to a Youtube video clip on how to change out the emblem on a Genesis, which is the same method for an Equus. Pretty simple really. Good luck!

At 1 PM today I drove my 2010 Genesis to local Hyundai dealer to see what the Equus is all about and take a test drive. Loved it. Asked dealer what kind of deal we could make and would there be a penalty for ending my Genesis lease early...I'm only 13 months into a 36 month lease. Says he has a 2011 Granite Grey demo with 800 miles on it and will lease it for $699/month including sales tax and give me 15,000 miles/yr and he will even make the first payment. Only other cost is $175 registration. And will end my Genesis lease with no further charges or penalty. At 4PM, after a flurry of paper work, I drive my new Equus home.

Okay have 534 miles on Signature Granite with Saddle interior bought Oct 31st here in San Antonio. Traded in my Black on Black 2009 Genesis. Can not figure out why anyone would opt for the Ultimate unless someone else was going to do the driving for you. I got $1500 loyalty, plus $1500 Debit card plus $2900 loan rebate plus $1500 from dealer. I really like it but my Infiniti Q45 had a much better Navigation package with the bird's eye map view. My Genesis rode too rough for me after driving both big Infiniti and Lexus previously.

If they are really smart they will stick to the policy of picking up your Equus at your home for service since there is a huge difference in the dealer service at Hyundai dealerships and the other "luxury car" dealerships. I will rebadge trunk but dealer should do it on their own if asked.

Will post pics later.

I hear you about dealerships! To have to rub elbows with lowly Genesis drivers is TOO much to ask!
;)

Just bought Ultimate 2011 Silver. I am loving it so far.

[Bought 2011 signature on Oct 31st and have 1000 miles on it as of today Dec 19th. After everything, my net price $53K. Traded in 2009 Genesis with 25K. This is so much better then the Genesis but should be considering the price difference. I ordered trunk badge immediately but did not arrive so they shipped another one free that did arrive. Granite with Saddle interior. Have always driven big Lexus or big Infiniti for past 20 some years. /B] Wife has 2008 Nissan Maxima with only 10,000 miles on it so still very nice.
