  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Wow. They look very similar. I guess we'll be making other comparisons very soon...

I am assuming that the Genesis is much larger in just about every dimension.

A lot of the haters are going to put Hyundai in the "copy cat" bracket. In reality, the first nicely designed coupe was made in 1996 with the Tiburon; so that means that Hyundai didn't copy anyone besides their own design.

Was there anything similar to that Tiburon when it came out? I'd like to build some ammo on your statement in regards to copying... It makes sense to me...

Other than having the typical coupe roofline, not very similar.

Head and tail -lights are different (while the G37 and Genesis Coupe headlights are more similar than the Genesis Coupe w/ the G35, it's purely coincidental since the concepts came out about the same time), grilles are diff, have different flaring/flame surfacing on the sides, etc.

And even w/ the roofline/greenhouse, Hyundai did something diff by adding the "dip" which the typical critics/haters can't seem to give Hyundai credit for (whether you hate it or not, it is different).

The roofline of the Genesis Coupe follows the 2nd gen Tib (which was introduced in 2001) just as it does the G35/37 (which was introduced 2 yrs later).

Not sure about the Tiburon being the first nicely designed coupe, I really liked the looks of the first generation Datsun Z, that was a coupe.

I always mistake a G37 for a Coupe :p And always get disappointed by not seeing the Coupe around more:(

Nope.

As for the similarities, picture most new cars of the same class in the same color and you will see some resemblance. They have similar proportions and shapes, but the details are quite different.

Is this suppose to be just for comparing looks or has anyone actually driven both cars? I was getting ready to spring for a G37S coupe when I read all the Genesis reviews so I'll be taking a trip to the Hyundai dealer soon for a test drive. Will post of comparison as the Infinity and Hyunday dealer in my area are right next to each other so I can re-drive the Infinity for comparison. :)

We test drove the G37 convertible. Very nice! DH wants a hard top. He's done a lot of caparitive searching and really likes the Infinity. Sorry if this is a dumb question, I checked for previous threads, but found none current on this. Does anyone know if Hyundai plans to come out with a Genesis Coupe hard top convertible if they do end up making one? That would be interesting to compare with G37.

I test drove (so far):

BMW 335i coupe
Audi A5
Infinity G37S convertible
Infinity G37X sedan
Subaru Legacy 2.5GT MT
Subaru Legacy 3.6 AT
Subary WRX STI

My favorite car by far was the G37S convertible but it is too pricey for my budget. Only downside is that it is heavy, 4095 pounds, but the engine and suspension seem to mask that pretty well. Beautiful and I liked the drive as much as the BMW. BMW's are overpriced for what you get IMHO. The A5 was nice but I didn't like the variable steering - feels way too numb at lower speeds (can get around that with S-Drive option) but Audi is also overpriced for what you get IMHO.

The new Subaru Legacy got GLOWING reviews but I HATED it. Throttle response was terrible, especially in the 2.5GT and the transmissions sucked. Interiors were very cheapo feeling too and the handling hand way too much roll and very little road feel. Very surprised based on what I read about them before driving. The STI isn't a car, it's a loud, rough, unrefined "machine." Great for dirt roads going up a mountain or for spoiled/rich High School students that want to impress their friends and that's about it.
