  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hyundai Genesis - Worst Resale Value?

I made out like a bandit on my sell of my 2015 5.0. first time a normal person out smarted the dealer network. u dealer guys are lowballers and I out witted all of em.

5.0 base and Ultimate are already being traded in at around the mid to upper 30's. 3.8 signatures will fetch you around $30K. So yes they do depreciate fast.

But we've also taken in a 2015 GS350 Fsport with 5k miles for $40,500. Thats a $58k MSRP vehicle. Last week our Maserati store took in a 2014 BMW 740i M Sport with 19k miles for $41,000. It's crazy to see from this side.

Exactly - no surprise that thing did not hold it's value ;)

Yawn.. But on a serious note, I didn't see much in that article to tell what years were used to come up with the numbers. And it would be interesting to see a break-down by year how the value is holding up.

That would be asking a lot of journalists these days

Do you want us to over allow so we won't be able to resell it? Take into consideration reconditioning expenses, Hyundai certification expenses, and other variables.

Plus in South Florida, we have the most aggressive, volatile pricing in the country.

My Genny Sedan 2011 is my first "luxury" car. My Brother-in-law has long liked to drive Lincoln's and said don't drive a high end car that is not under warranty, and buy one a year old as the high end cars take the biggest first year hit on depreciation. After months of research and reading reviews and driving tests, I bought my first luxury car with my 2011 Genny Sedan. I have loved this card from day one and my last payment will be in a couple of months. It had 8,000 miles on it when I bought it, and now has 65K. No problems just standard/scheduled maintenance.

I chose Hyundai as they were an up and comer and the Genny was their entry into the high end market. So far all my research has paid off and I'm very happy with my purchase. Am I surprised that Genny's don't hold value like other high end cars? No as I know a lot of folks that buy a brand. Hyundai has improved as we all know, but they are still not perceived as a BMW, Lexus, Mercedes brand for bragging rights. I enjoy driving the "under-dog" and know that my money was better spent than my brand loving friends. Just my 2 cents on resale value and Genesis cars.

I heard that lol. and I find it offensive....not.

Im probably the best source of advice for you for this genesis. Unlesd u want to pay 600 a month to lease a awd genesis LoL.

Ignore him. I have yet to see a single post of value from that SN.

If this is true about the resale value (I have not read any articles about it), it doesn't surprise me. In 2013, my wife purchased a Hyundai Elantra. It was a business car. She likes it, it gets great mileage, is stylish and reliable. I like it to run short errands, etc. When people see it, they like it, but when you tell them it is a Hyundai, they sort of roll their eyes. I've noticed the same reaction when people see my new Genesis. The style catches their attention, so they ask about it and then "pow", it's like you told them the car had the chicken pox and they were contagious. Some of this reaction is because there are very, very few Hyundai vehicles in my area. The nearest dealership is 220 miles away. I do a lot of research before I buy any vehicle and the research helped me decide that the Elantra and Genesis were/are reliable vehicles and well worth the money. I don't care what others think about my cars. However, it appears that quality is not the first thing that comes to mind from people that don't know the brand and only remember it from years ago when it first came on the scene.

quality should be a big factor but for some reason it's not. the big pieces of chit mercedes already have bad transmissions at 40k miles. horrible piece of chit mechanical parts that werent tested for longevity.

hyundai is good, but their marketing is all over the place

Agreed - I had a similar experience with my brother-in-law. He made fun of the fact I had spent so much on a Hyundai, even though he admitted it was a sharp looking car, and almost laughed while talking up the CPO CTS (basic V6) his brother had just bought... Until we had both cars are his house at the same time and test drove both back-to-back - he's not laughing at it anymore.

The Elantra and Sonata hold their value better than the Genesis and the Santa Fe and the new Tucson even more so.

Resale value is calculated off of MSRP and not ATP - so the good to great deals that buyers have gotten/are getting on the Genesis hurts resale (but basically get your savings up front).

In conjunction with that is the fact that the Genesis sedan is the newest entrant in the midsize, luxury sedan segment and one being sold under a mainstream nameplate.

Each successive generation of the Genesis/G80 should see better resale value (same thing we have seen with the Sonata), but at the same time, will see less generous discounts.

The E Class and 5 Series see fairly significant loss in value as well (the S Class depreciates even faster), esp. after the warranty period expires (the Genesis sees a big decline early on in large part due to the discounting, but after the warranty period expires, should hold on to its value better than the Germans).

OK.

I keep my cars for years and years, my wife kept her college Accent for 12 years before a minor fender bender totaled it out and she bought a '14 limited Tucson and plans to keep it for another 10 plus years! I see this as something that might hurt the quick flippers but to those of us who keep cars for years, its perfectly ok.

It took 2.5 years for my 2012 Genesis R-Spec to be worth half of MSRP.

Not even a little bit. Okay, a little bit..that pano roof earns points. :p

The pano roof is not all it's cracked up to be - while it is very nice, it has also been my biggest issue with the car due to noise (rattles/creaks) emanating from it. I've driven 6 different Genesis (my own and loaners) and all had issues to varying degrees - I think it's just a bad design! Depending on how the new car goes in this respect, it may push me to dump the Genesis.
