If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

So, when I bought my Genesis, I thought I'd be real clever and purchase the Platinum Service Plan, so that everything would be covered. So, as my cruise control has quit working, I put it in the dealer shop to get the cruise control(and a few other things) fixed, under my service plan.

Today, the service manager tells me that the module that is causing the cruise control not to work is excluded from coverage under the Platinum Plan(line 14 under exclusions). So, I check it out and, sure enough, "all laser cruise control components" is excluded. WTH? You buy a $45,000 car and the $1295 "Platinum" service plan, and they will not fix your cruise control?

What's worse, the service mgr tells me the part alone costs $4500, I assume not including labor. Well, the car is only worth maybe $12,000 now, and I can't see how one could justify spending $5,000 just to get the cruise control working again.

I am thinking Hyundai is right on the edge of false advertising here by selling this service plan as a "Platinum" plan, as any normal person would assume that something as ubiquitous and important as one's cruise control would be covered under the top service plan. I also don't see why, if they are going to leave owners on the hook for such an exorbitant repair price, they could not have engineered the car to, in the event of a failure of this module, then default to a standard type cruise control, so that owners would at least have that if they could not afford the repair.

Sorry if this is already a topic, but I searched and did not find it. It also will serve as a precautionary tale for other owners and potential customers. Has anybody had this module fail, and do you have any suggestions on getting it fixed.

I was pressured into buying add-on service contracts (as always).

Never even gave it a thought - and the lady really got mad - probably lost a fat commission.

Hey there, sorry to hear about your issue. Unfortunately, not reading a contract is not an excuse in the eyes of the law.

If it helps, it looks like this part can be had for US $1,525.10

Thanks for the lead. Unfortunately, when I put in my model info, it says the part is NOT compatible with my 2012 4.6. By the way, mine has the "adaptive" cruise control, so maybe that requires a different module. It would be great if I could find the module for that price!

As to the service contract, my complaint is more that they just shouldn't label any plan as "Platinum" if it won't fix your cruise control.

I would check with HMA to be sure. There is a lot of confusion as to whether that applies to OEM equipment or after-market equipment.

Maybe - just maybe - it could be a simple fix.

A few years back, I had a completely spastic oil pressure gauge. The dealer said the entire instrument panel console had to be replaced -- $1500 for a used replacement.

On a hunch, I replaced the sending unit (the pressure sensor) - a messy job - but cost me less than $10 -- and that fixed it!

I'm almost at the point in my life we're I have so little patience for things like this that I'm on the verge of getting violently angry. I typically just stare at the person like I'm so angry I can't come with words and they just move on. I really have no time left in my life to be dealing with this kind of nonsense of just taking extra money out of my wallet...

Mtrot... All the brands have these few certain things they don't cover. Nobody likes reading over every last line of these long agreements and I guess that's why they're so long...

Well, to be fair, several other items will be covered under the protection plan: a rear door lock that doesn't work, noisy idler pulley, and rear shocks which are leaking. Yes, the plan covers shocks and struts. My guess is that the bill for those items may exceed the $1295 that I paid for the plan.

the pricing is outrageous, $4,500 for a module? I would get a second opinion on both the diagnosis and the warranty. Worst case, see if a junkyard can locate one for you should be way less.

Don't worry about it - I get hit with so many scams, misinformation, and disinformation nowadays on a daily basis, that it's like so much white noise. I hardly think about it.

Be a cynic (or skeptic) and stay informed. Speaking of which, I think Edmunds.com has a section that treats dealer offered warranties.

How exactly do you trade in what is in your dreams??

I normally refuse these profit adders. However, partly due to my age and my wife possibly being left to deal with issues, I bought the one my dealer offered----------after the price came down to $1138. After reading this post, it does cover the CC module.

It is not the standard Hyundai plan, however. It was one the dealer says is a better plan (he also sells Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, and Lincoln). It is an Advantage wrap policy by Protective.

When I had my accident with a deer, after they fixed it, I discovered that the cruise wasn't working properly, it would brake for vehicles in other lanes, etc. When the dealer hooked up to it to run a diagnostic, it couldn't even talk to the diagnostic system properly. The module is on the front passenger side, right under the bumper, which had to be removed to get at it, and right where the deer hit me. The additional charge filed against my insurance to replace the module (blame the deer) was right around that $4500, maybe a little more. Damned expensive for a little black box.! :(

I had a similar issue after a hit to the right front. The core problem was the piece of core body, that the sensor mounts to, was slightly deformed. It took a couple of bumper removals and some shims to get it aligned correctly again.

In my Platinum agreement it seems to be covered as long as it's included from the factory. I just purchased this car so it would be the latest agreement. Exclusion:

UNDER PLATINUM COVERAGE, ANY OF THE FOLLOWING ITEMS/SYSTEMS IF THEY ARE NOT “FACTORY INSTALLED” (INSTALLED OR APPROVED FOR INSTALLATION BY THE MANUFACTURER OF THE COVERED VEHICLE): AUDIO, SECURITY, IN-VEHICLE COMMUNICATIONS AND/OR ENTERTAINMENT SYSTEMS, SAFETY RESTRAINT SYSTEMS, CELLULAR PHONES, ELECTRONIC TRANSMITTING DEVICES (EXCEPT FOR THOSE SPECIFICALLY LISTED UNDER GOLD COVERAGE), RADAR DETECTORS, APPLIANCES, NEAR OBJECT AVOIDANCE SYSTEMS AND ALL LASER RADAR CRUISE CONTROL COMPONENTS,

Right, if that is the actual language, then adaptive cruise control components that are factory installed are covered, and included.
