So, when I bought my Genesis, I thought I'd be real clever and purchase the Platinum Service Plan, so that everything would be covered. So, as my cruise control has quit working, I put it in the dealer shop to get the cruise control(and a few other things) fixed, under my service plan.
Today, the service manager tells me that the module that is causing the cruise control not to work is excluded from coverage under the Platinum Plan(line 14 under exclusions). So, I check it out and, sure enough, "all laser cruise control components" is excluded. WTH? You buy a $45,000 car and the $1295 "Platinum" service plan, and they will not fix your cruise control?
What's worse, the service mgr tells me the part alone costs $4500, I assume not including labor. Well, the car is only worth maybe $12,000 now, and I can't see how one could justify spending $5,000 just to get the cruise control working again.
I am thinking Hyundai is right on the edge of false advertising here by selling this service plan as a "Platinum" plan, as any normal person would assume that something as ubiquitous and important as one's cruise control would be covered under the top service plan. I also don't see why, if they are going to leave owners on the hook for such an exorbitant repair price, they could not have engineered the car to, in the event of a failure of this module, then default to a standard type cruise control, so that owners would at least have that if they could not afford the repair.
Sorry if this is already a topic, but I searched and did not find it. It also will serve as a precautionary tale for other owners and potential customers. Has anybody had this module fail, and do you have any suggestions on getting it fixed.
