  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hyundai Platinum Service plan will not fix my cruise control??!!($4500 module)

Thanks, but if you look in the Platinum exclusions in that brochure you will see "all laser radar cruise control components". Some "Platinum" plan, isn't it?

I would argue that! is it the cruise control component or is it the laser radar that work in conjunction with the cruise control? if its the latter then yea its in the contract, but if your cruise control doesnt work anymore, I would argue that and cause all kind of hell.

Take it to another dealership.

Right, if that is the actual language, then adaptive cruise control components that are factory installed are covered, and included.

As I mentioned, the language is confusing. The brochure posted above is not confusing (and says it is excluded), but may have been created by a person who was confused reading the official language in the contract.

I will say this for the last time: My recollection is that a forum member had this "exclusion" issue several years ago, and they opened a case with HMA, and HMA said that all OEM equipment is covered. When discussing the case with HMA, I would send them the original warranty contract, and not the brochure (don't even mention the brochure).

IMO contacting a dealer is a waste of time. Open a case with HMA.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
so would the "platinum" service be the same even if you bought an extended warranty that is purchased from huyndai but not by hyundai?
What do mean by that?

If it is an official Hyundai HPP warranty, it is offered by HMA (Hyundai Motor America) and sold by a Hyundai dealer, but usually under-written by another company such as Fidelity. These are Hyundai extended warranties which are valid at any Hyundai dealership in the USA.

Is some cases, Hyundai dealers in the USA (all of which are independent businesses not owned or controlled by Hyundai Motor America) may sell third party warranties not associated with HMA. These are not Hyundai warranties, and "some" of them may only be valid at the dealership who sold you the warranty.

In my Platinum agreement it seems to be covered as long as it's included from the factory. I just purchased this car so it would be the latest agreement. Exclusion:

UNDER PLATINUM COVERAGE, ANY OF THE FOLLOWING ITEMS/SYSTEMS IF THEY ARE NOT “FACTORY INSTALLED” (INSTALLED OR APPROVED FOR INSTALLATION BY THE MANUFACTURER OF THE COVERED VEHICLE): AUDIO, SECURITY, IN-VEHICLE COMMUNICATIONS AND/OR ENTERTAINMENT SYSTEMS, SAFETY RESTRAINT SYSTEMS, CELLULAR PHONES, ELECTRONIC TRANSMITTING DEVICES (EXCEPT FOR THOSE SPECIFICALLY LISTED UNDER GOLD COVERAGE), RADAR DETECTORS, APPLIANCES, NEAR OBJECT AVOIDANCE SYSTEMS AND ALL LASER RADAR CRUISE CONTROL COMPONENTS,

Well, then your Platinum contract is better than mine. The clause, "not factory installed or approved" is in a different sentence than the sentence which excludes "all laser radar cruise control components".

My contract is labeled:

CERTIFIED PRE-OWNED WRAP
VEHICLE SERVICE CONTRACT

Thank you for that info! I will attempt to do that. I have been interested in possibly getting the new Genesis, but it is giving me pause that they will not fix my cruise control under their "Platinum" plan.

OK, just to perhaps clarify what my plan actually says, here are pics of exclusion #14 and the top of the plan.

Update:

I'm happy to report good news! Kudos to the Hyundai Dallas District Sales Manager for working with two dealers and getting me taken care of. What had happened is that, when I bought my Genesis, the dealer from which I bought it was in the process of being sold. I'm told that somehow my purchase of the Certified Preowned Vehicle Platinum "wrap" contract was not communicated to Hyundai. Nor did Hyundai receive the remittance for the coverage, although I clearly had the paper contract showing that I had paid the selling dealer ~$1300 for it.

This explains why, when the servicing dealer entered my VIN and my service contract #, they did not find my coverage. I'm not sure whether my contract "fell through the cracks", as I'm told, or if there was some hanky panky on the part of the selling dealer by which somebody pocketed my payment for the contract.

Anyway, while this was all being hassled out, my Genesis sat in the servicing dealership shop for five weeks. Now, with regard to my cruise control, it is the case that the laser control module IS excluded from my plan, which IMO should not be the case with a "Platinum" plan. However, because of the huge hassle I was going through to even get my contract put into effect, the Dallas Manager went to bat and was able to work it out to repair my cruise control, as well as the other issues that were covered. Because they finally did take care of me as a customer, I will again consider another Genesis, and even checked out the G80 at the dealership today.

So, is this the difference between the "Wrap" and "Comprehensive Coverage"?

I'm not sure. Maybe someone else might know?

Wrap has basic coverage that doesn't cover what the manufacturer offers. Comprehensive coverage covers Wrap plus things that are warranted by the manufacturer.

My purchase is almost completed and should be getting the car by week end. Prices for coverage have been all over the place. I've learned more about Vehicle Service Contracts than I ever wanted to. Cost, coverage, exclusions...feeling a headache coming on.

My credit union has a 84 month/100,000 mile/$50 deductible with National Auto Care for $1187. Problem is, National has very low ratings online and their BBB rating is dismal.

My insurance company (USAA) has a 72 month/100,000 mile/$0 deductible with Assurant Solutions for $1487. Assurant has been around a while with middling ratings. They also don't have 24/7 support. So, don't break down after 6pm!

My auto broker has a 72 month/100,000 total mileage/$100 deductible with SafeGuard for $1586. This is the same company backing the HPP plan below, except it doesn't have Hyundai branding. Also, the exclusions are different.

Hyundai Protection Plan Platinum Comprehensive 10 years/100,000 mile/$0 deductible from the dealer as $2500. YIKES! Hyundai outsources it's claims handling to SafeGuard. They have above average ratings and this plan is accepted at all Hyundai dealers. There are exclusions, so read the contract available online.

Endurance has coverage, but they won't talk to you about coverage until your near the end of your warranty.

If you can get the CPO Ultimate Wrap from Hyundai, it's pretty good, but be aware it does not cover that $4500 Smart Cruise Control module.

FWIW, I've found the First Guard Ultimate plan to be outstanding. My credit union suggested them when I bought my 2009 Buick Enclave with 53,000 miles on it. The coverage lasted through 120,000 miles. I think I paid about $1900 for it, and they paid out over $6,000 in repairs on it before the coverage ran out. I also bought First Guard Ultimate when I bought a 2012 Buick LaCrosse this past summer. They already replaced the A/C compressor on the LaCrosse about a month after I bought it. The deductible is $100 per visit, not per item repaired. The nice thing about the Ultimate plan is that it is not a "covered item" plan, in which only specifically stated parts are covered. The First Guard plan covers pretty much everything, except specifically excluded items. It even covered suspension parts, such as struts and steering components for the Enclave.

Well - while you got it worked out afterall anyhow - there is one interesting thing about this... and it means it's covered:

Your car doesn't have a "laser radar cruise" system. It has a Microwave radar cruise. There are no optics or lasers in the Genesis cruise systems. :)

It's behind the grille and looks like this:

Where did you get your First Guard Warranty from??

Well, somebody needs to explain that to my Hyundai dealer, and Hyundai's warranty people. They seemed to know the warranty coverage exactly, and I'm not sure that is the module that was replaced. I got the feeling that what was replaced was module in another location in the car.

Where did you get your First Guard Warranty from??

From United Heritage Credit Union(based in Austin, TX). I financed two cars through them and they recommended First Guard and sold me the plans. I'm not sure if you can just directly call First Guard and get these plans, but you could contact them.

That's all fine and good - no matter what module they replaced. The fact of the matter is however - no part of the system is a Laser Radar (Lidar) cruise. It is Microwave. So if their language excludes laser cruise systems... they owed you the repair anyhow as they specified lidar. :)
