  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hyundai updates lame-duck Genesis for 2014

I can't personally speak for the V8, but on my 2009 3.8 V6 I "can" get 29 MPG on the highway (shows 30 MPG on my dash display, which is about 1 MPG higher than actual). I suspect that part of the discrepancy vs EPA highway numbers has to do with I am driving at 65 MPH, and my Genesis has 2 over-drive gears, while EPA tests are probably done at 55 MPH. But that is just a guess, and I don't really know why I "can" (under right circumstances) get up to 2 MPG than EPA estimates for the highway.

I know that there have been many owners with the 4.6 V8 who have claimed better than EPA estimates, but not sure about the GDI versions.

Occasionally I could get the "30" mpg (according to the OBC) in my 08 Azera. however, that was driving strictly interstate for about 50 miles with virtually no hills, only mild slopes. Once I got off the interstate that V6 gobbled up gas as badly as my V8 Genesis.

On just "round the corner" journeys my '09 Azera often showed 17mpg..
On the same journeys my '11 Ford Focus SEL showed 17mpg..
My Genesis regularly shows 14.5mpg..
I was more concerned about the Focus as opposed to the Hyundais..
They "H"s are large heavy cars plus lots of electronics to boot.. apart from the baby Hyundais, I don't think economy should be on the buyers check list..
Overall long journeys are very comfortable with plenty of power on tap, economy
does increase somewhat, but not and never will be fantastic.....
My Dad Bless Him, always said "you wanna big car, get a big wallet" And that was
well before the wild fuel prices and a long time before the MPG figures where
being Marketed""

"For 2014 all Genesis models equipped with Hyundai's Blue Link will come standard with three years of Hyundai Assurance Connected Care telematics services. Those services include Automatic Collision Notification, Enhanced Roadside Assistance and a Car Care reporting system that keeps tabs on things like recall alerts and scheduled maintenance."

I've gotten this too free of charge for three years and mine is 2013 model.
All I had to do was register and already received car's health monthly report

If you were keeping up you'd know that Hyundai had to send 1000s of gift cards to owners due to inflated MPG ratings. It wasn't for the Genny, but, IMHO they are heading off the same situation with the Genny.

Others opinions will be contrary to mine...... lol

Except - Hyundai had already lowered the EPA rating for the Genesis (even tho many have gotten better than the original EPA rating for HWY).

So this change likely either means a bump in HP/torque or a more aggressively programmed transmission (more likely the latter as Hyundai is intent on making the new Genesis more "sporty"); could also mean the new Genesis gains some weight due to all the added features, but with the weight-saving features, it'll likely be a wash or a slight weight decrease.

The EPA ratings are lower for 2014 model (2 MPG for R-Spec), and I don't think there is any noticeable difference in weight over 2013. Obviously, we don't know about 2015.

I suspect both 2014 and 2015 have computer changes to transmission that accounts for it.

It is not always easy to add that kind feature in an interim model release. Did Sonata and Azera get them when their new generation models were released?

Yes, they both got it with the new model release. Still it cant be that difficult to add since you can buy them aftermarket for < $300.

Just saw the 2014 sedans at my dealer today and the only notable difference you can see is on the 3.8's with tech & premium package, it now has out of all things auto dimming outside mirrors....yet still no Blind Spot Monitoring lol....and yes I'll repeat that every chance I get !!

They also lowered the MPG ratings on both the R-Spec & 3.8's.

I can see why their heads rolled in the R&D Technology Division of Hyundai.

It "may" be that lowered MPG is related to changes in transmission shifting (as noted in several posts above) for better and smother acceleration. A lot of people have complained about the transmission. So it is possible that lowered MPG was not related to head of R&D Technology Division being replaced. And may be same for 2015.

For other 2014 changes, they are mentioned in posts above.

Also the 2014 has a new brown color...is Caspian Black the same as my 2013 Black pearl noir...just renamed? Looks kind of dull grey on the website...

Caspian black (aka Onyx black or YB6 color code on the door jamb) is not the same as black pearl (color code AF) as confirmed by Hyundai part store.
I bought mine which is a 2013 model that came with caspian black but when I went to Hyundai web site that color only available in 2014 model. Black pearl is the only black color available for 2013.
Is it possible that I bought a 2014 model that was branded as 2013? Dunno?!

The tech people being replaced was in reference to them deciding dimming mirrors was an "important" feature over blind spot :)

The tech people come up with the technology. The marketing people decide what technology to put in the cars based on cost and how much they think it will increase sales.
