  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I am now a proud owner of a Genesis

I got my 3.8, Titanium Grey/Saddle ,Genesis with premiun plus this week at Lester Glenn Hyundai in Toms River NJ.I paid 32,993.00,thats with the trunk liner and wheel locks.Thats 851.00 below invoice, invoice prices can be found on Kelly Blue Book .com, and 3,157.00 off the sticker, with was 36,150.00. This was not a demo, infact the dealer had to trade with a dealer way out on Long Island(very far away)to get my colors so the car had 130 miles on it when it got here.I was in negotiations with six dealers, another dealer matched their price but thier doc was 300 and they were trying to charge me 200 for glass etching, witch is a scam.the doc at Lester Glenn was only 149 and they were the closest to my home. The only other charge was 45 for transfer of plates. All six dealer looked me right in the eye and told me they could not go below invoice on first contact but after 40 days of back an forth, can you top this negotiations, here we are.Don't feel sorry for the dealers, the hold back on this car is 3%,the dealer showed me the invoice,it was 1050.00 on this car. He also told me they get additional compensation if they meet their quota of sales for the month. He did not say how much and in what form. If you don't count that they made 200 bucks on the car. I'm still getting to know the car but so far I love he saddle leather, glad I waited for my colors.

Congratulations John! If the economy keeps its course (downwards), we all could be getting great deals! And now it's offiical, we've been in a recession! :D

I've been resisting the temptation to weigh in on the exchange about what constitutes a fair deal, which not only emerged spontaneously on this thread, but also on several others.

Like all members of this forum, I'm a hard-working, tax-paying guy that wants to get the best possible bargain whevever I part with my hard-earned money, yet I find myself wincing (and empathizing) with PriorityHyundai - and by extension EdVoyles and Brian the Hyundai sales guy in CA - whenever a member posts a particularly cynical or negative sentiment about negotiating a price on their car.

While the relationship between car salesmen and their customers is notoriously adversarial (and the subject of endless jokes), at the end of the day, people working for car dealerships are no different than any other sales people (really!), and frankly, they're no different than any of the rest of us who don't depend on direct sales for our incomes. They're putting in long days and trying their best to pay bills, feed their kids, etc. Are there exceptions to that rule? Of course, just like there are exceptions among the employees of the Fortune 500 company that I work for. Eventually, "the law of the jungle" takes care of people like that.

This is a great forum that facilitates an exceptional exchange of information about an exciting new car that's captivated all of us. Can't we just agree to set aside the bickering about great deals, buying below invoice, etc., and focus on the mutual advancement of our understanding and appreciation of this remarkable car?

It's particularly ironic that a forum on the Genesis is falling victim to this age-old battle, since it's a car that's arguably "worth" many more thousands than it's priced at. Even at MSRP, if you can't see the intrinsic value in what HMA is offering, you're not paying attention! C'mon, gang...it's time to get past this.

exactly!!! on point with what i was saying, how are we going to boost this car as being the best deal on the market when were disrespecting it already with what were offering on the car. try buying a new model, bmw, cedes, lexus etc for below invoice, theyll tell you to kick rocks and come back when your ready to be forreal, if not go buy a camry or something.

Call me crazy but i get the very best price on everything i buy,i work too hard to give away my money. I say again i do not feel sorry for the dealers. They are out there right now trying to charge 1000-1500 bucks over sticker on Dodge Chalengers because they are hot right now. The dealer will make money off me every time i service my car. They also made more then 200 on the car, they told me they get, someting for meeting their quotas. As someone said we got beat by the dealers so many times over the years because when the asked the question,"how much do you want to pay for this car" we had no idea. Now when they ask that question i say,"how much do you want to make on this car",because I know what it's really worth. The sales person spent very little time on me,i knew more about the car then he did, thanks to this site and others. He did not have to show me how the car works at all. Don't get me started about trade-ins,i will not trade a car in,I will sell it out right.Right now they don't even want SUVs at all,and give you a low ball price witch confuses the main deal. As the UAW workes are learning the industry is changing, someday there may not be salesmen at all you just buy your car on-line and go pick it up. To tell people to pay sticker so the salesmaen can feed his family is crazy,it's a bailout,I'm not in the charity bussness. It sounds harsh but If someone has to go without I rather it not be me.

John,

Congratulations again on getting a GREAT deal! Pay sticker? Not me, not on a Hyundai, not in the current economic state of the world economy and not when Lexus, BMW and Infiniti are selling below sticker. As we have already seen some folks not buy the Genesis because they got better deals on other cars.

The Genesis is a great car, if people are willing to pay sticker (or more) that's their choice!

Enjoy!:)

Like Travel Agents, car sales people are eventually going to be rare. Who needs a travel agent anymore? I've never needed a sales person to buy a car. I'd MUCH rather order it and go pick it up. What more do I need? Someone to show me how to drive it? Is there a need to haggle on a price? When I go to buy a new refrigerator or washer and dryer, I don't haggle on the price. I just buy it. Same goes with everything else. Put a sticker on the damn thing and people will buy it.

perhaps the same thing will be said for whatever job it is that you do and a true salesperson does more than just what you said, any sucessful one anyway. so no need to profile those you dont know.

As far as I'm concerned, MSRP = Manufacturer's SUGGESTED Retail Price. It's not obligatory. If anyone feels the car is worth MSRP or the markups that dealers put on cars, then join the minority and go for it.

Hard working people who are more inclined to watch what/how they spend their money are in the majority to know that MSRP is not the case and it's just a 'price point' for people to work with. Not all salespeople are bad, but for the most part, they've all earned a bad rep because of their business practices. Now that the consumer knows their tactics and ways of taking advantage of customers by offering 'special options' (i.e. paint protection  ) and such; how much more respect would they think they'll get if they try every which way to milk the customer? People are much more knowledgeable, thanks to the buttload of info on the internet. You shouldn't complain because people are much more educated, especially when buying a car. The business practices of 1-2 decades ago, no longer function...

hope you didnt pay full price for those groceries, or restaurant/bar tab or furniture that youve bought.

Nope... there are things called discounts, coupons, rebates.... need I go on?

I got a dealer to offer me a in stock Genesis V6 with Tech Package for $36,500. I just told him I did my research I know what the invoice is on the car, that I'm pre-approved for a loan, but I was open to any dealer financing that was better than what I currently had, and that I know how many Genesis's have been sold in the US since their release. Plus, I have an excellent credit rating.

I have two other dealers wanting an opportunity to do better on price. One stated they could go to $36,000.

As the ecomony gets worst, I feel the deals will get better. I may wait until next year or pull the trigger if a super deal comes along.

All good things come to he who waits.

Best to wait til next spring. All the automakers will be in a panic for buyers. What could be better, driving a new Genesis with the sunroof open and the Lexicon stereo cranking!:D
