I drove a V6 Genesis yesterday that had the Premium Plus Package and Technology Package. The Genesis had a Black Noir Pearl exterior with a Cashmere interior. The dealership just got the vehicle in two hours before I arrive…about 7pm that night. The exterior paint and interior were attractive and appealing to the eyes. On the exterior, I liked the size of the Genesis and lines from the side and front of the car. The rear of the car is kind of boring and I didn’t care too much for the 18-inch wheels. Now for the inside…the Cashmere leather was very soft and comfortable and I was pleasantly surprised that the interior looked much better in person than in the pictures. Interior size is wonderful and truly will measure up to any luxury sedan. The interior controls are laid out in an easy-to-understand and operate manner, but I did notice that some of the “feel and look” of the controls weren’t up to my previous experiences. I’ve owned Acura’s, Mercedes Benz, and BMW vehicles in the past and the look and feel in these vehicles surpassed the Genesis’ controls. Since the dealer just got the car, they didn’t know how to operate anything in it, but said “hey do you want to take it for a drive?” Of course I said YES! The ride is very smooth and the V6 engine has great power and handling for my taste. I only took a five mile test drive because the dealership was closing in about 15 minutes. I didn’t get much time to play around with the navigation system, stereo, or other interior controls, so I’ll have to go back later to spend some more time with the car. Oh, the trunk space is huge, although Hyundai could have done a better job of finishing the trunk…had a lot of exposed gray metal and the rear speaker was clearly visible. My overall experience was that this car is definitely on my short list to purchase. I think more time with the vehicle will let me truly understand all of its features and benefits compared to the competition. My biggest disappointment was the “market adjustment” of $3,000 and some other stupid mark-up for $495. So the vehicle asking price was $43,495!!! I won’t pay for any mark-up or any other silly dealer mark-ups so I hope this changes in the future. If you want a brand new V6 Genesis in Black Noir Pearl and Cashmere interior its for sale in Colorado Springs, CO. I’m still holding out for the V8, which the General Manager said won’t be arriving until November 2008. He also said he has two other Genesis’ that are still at the dock and haven’t been shipped. My experience at the dealership with the salesman and General Manager was very good and very professional…a lot better than the BMW dealership that I had visited the same day. All I can say is after driving the Genesis and a couple of BMW’s, the BMW’s are off my potential purchase list and the Genesis (V8) is on the list. I hope this post helps some of you and I wish you luck in securing you new Genesis. Hyundai really did a great job for the asking price!
