  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I got badly burned by a Genesis "dealer."

I was burned by my dealer. Badly. I reserved a 2021 G80 3.5T AWD Prestige in Porto Red over six months ago. After getting fed a tidal wave of šŸƒšŸ’© about where my car was, I noticed on December 29 that the dealer's website was showing G80s in stock. I contacted them ( they never contacted me) and they said that they had two Porto Red Prestige AWD coming in but they were 2.5T. I went on on New Year's Eve to test drive a 2.5T and liked it.
I gave them my Amex card for a deposit on one of these "cars." Over the weekend I asked for the VIN so I could look up a copy of the sticker online. Instead I was texted a photo of the sticker printout.

Now, suddenly, this morning, I was told that both of their Porto Red AWD Prestige cars arrived on December 21 and were "sold the same day." šŸƒšŸ’©!!!!
I checked that 🤬ing dealer web site every 🤬ing day! Those cars had not arrived by the 31st. The first day that they showed a G80 was the 29th.
Now they are saying they have to order the car, but the Genesis website has dropped Porto Red as a color for any trim or engine level of G80, and has no other acceptable (red) color.

I firmly believe that someone offered them more money for a car on which I had given my Amex card as a deposit, and they sold the car out from under me, since they had quoted a price. Nothing else makes sense. I certainly don't believe that the dealer was honest with me.
I have asked my salesman for an explanation, and copied the store's general sales manager and the Genesis Concierge. I expect to hear nothing. Neither Genesis nor any of its dealers care one whit about customers.

Do any of the dealers on this page have any connections in the Chicago metro area where I can get satisfaction? If not, I'm giving up on Genesis. I know that, if I had gone to the Mercedes dealer, I'd be sitting in a leather sofa, getting spoiled as the dealer made sure my every desire was fulfilled, or even better, I'd be sitting in my living room as they delivered my new car to my door. Dealing with a Hyundai store service level and used-car-lot dishonesty makes me want to uncontrollably puke.

If you are in the Chicago Metro area stay FAR away from Genesis of Orland Park.

Keep us posted. Hopefully you'll hear back from the rep, GSM or concierge. You can always post your experience on one or more of the dealer review sites. I'm familiar with that dealership as it's the closest Genesis dealership to me.

Way back in the day I had put a deposit on an S2000, supposedly it was the last one coming to the US in Yellow. When it got to the dealership they contacted me and said it arrived. Due to work I told them I’ll be there the weekend to pick it up. The next day the salesperson that I was dealing with says hey can you come get it ASAP, so I ask why. She said multiple people had come in and offered over what I was paying for it. I said I’ll be there in an hour and I went to get it. Funny thing is about 6 months later I met one of the people that was trying to offer more for it, so it does happen.

There are honest salespeople - I know because I use to be one. Not in auto sales, but insurance. It doesn't matter, though, what you're selling. What matters is being honest and ethical. Glad to hear you found one in your deal.

Sorry John is having such an issue. The dealership experience is the worst part of owning a Genesis. Hopefully this new generation of vehicles will spark enough sales that it will allow them to separate Genesis dealers from Hyundai. We bought our 2021 G80 last week at Genesis of Naples, and though the experience was good, you're still in a Hyundai dealership. Three weeks ago we bought a 2021 Audi Q5 for my wife and it was a way different atmosphere.

The same could be said of every car brand. They all have good and bad dealers. My experience with buying my Genesis was better than my Mercedes dealer. There is a Buick-Caddy dealer that I'd never return to, nor would others as he is gone. A Hyundai dealer had a car on the lot that I would have driven home that night but walked out. Bought the same model at another dealer in the other direction an hour later.

The industry in general really should clean up their act as too many are sleazy. The really bad ones should be outed.

If you were satisfied with the 2.5T, we have a Porto Red, Prestige, AWD, with black interior on our lot right now. If you want to make the drive to Indy.

Agreed. What's really annoying is all the games: all sorts of high fees and ridiculous, near worthless dealer add-ons. The dealer fees started about twenty years ago. I remember buying a 2001 Mazda Tribute in 2001 and this was the first time I saw a dealer fee. It was pre-printed right on the form and I crossed it off. The salesman asked what I was doing. I said I'm crossing off the dealer fee as I'm not paying it. He said "You can't do that!" I answered, "Apparently I can, as I just did." I did not pay the fee, nor have I done it since.

Now, besides the fees, you have the dealer add-on label affixed to the Monroney label, making it seem like you had to take it. Came across it for the first time in 2018 when I leased the 2018 G80 - Tinted windows, pinstriping, paint protection film, ghost armor, etc., totaling almost $3,000. After I negotiated the price of the car, I told him I didn't want any of these add-ons. He said it's on all our cars when they're delivered. Told him I don't want the car, then. After some discussion, they removed the full charge and since the car already had the add-ons installed, they stayed. Seems more and more dealers are doing this, including the BMW I almost bought and my wife's Audi Q5. Told both dealers I'm not paying for any add-ons and they both removed the charge.

With the proliferation of internet information, there's less need for dealership for sales. Let us order direct and be done with this nonsense.

I'm not surpised I have a G80 purchased brand new that came with a rattle! One whole roof has been replaced and I still have a rattle !!! I'm pretty much done with Genesis. Look at total sales ytd it's anemic I'd be surprised if they stay in the US:poop::mad:

The GV80 is moving along. They can sell everything they can make right now. Last year was not good for the industry. Just look at what Hyundai/Genesis has coming up in the next few years and they will go from underdog to industry leader in the next 10 years. Won't be overnight but they have a long term mindset.

They won't if they don't get their network established like dedicated service departments and qualified techs. Didn't buy new car for it to have rattles!

Genesis Concierge sent me a generic reply once over a month ago, and again on Monday to my latest contact. Nonetheless after that I got crickets.

I also got crickets from Genesis USA.

I am also getting crickets from the dealer, and the other dealer who said he would hunt down a car.

John, if you have time would you please measure the width of the front seat bottoms? First measure the outside to outside width. Then measure just the width of the seat area inside (and excluding) the bolsters. Much appreciated!!! Seating comfort is extremely important to buyers.

Thanks!

In general, the seats are a bit narrower than the seats in my ā€˜19 Santa Fe which I find exceptionally comfortable. I noticed that at the dealership today, but had no tape measure with me. I also thought that the GV80 center console seemed wider and more massive than it needed to be. A narrower console could have allowed for a bit wider seats. I’m 200 lbs, which is actually slim these days. My fighting weight in my prime was around 180, but that was half my life ago. 🄓

You're welcome.

I'm 5'11" and 190 lbs. I find the seats very comfortable. The console is wide, but it's padded where your right leg might rest against it. I haven't noticed it intruding on my space.

On the photos, you might notice the front of the seat extended a bit forward of the side bolsters. I have the power thigh support extended a little. It can extend more than is shown in the photos.

Good to know you like the seats. Too many vehicles have narrow front seats these days.

Give the recent questions on this I'm working on a new app. You enter your height, weight, width of butt, and cheek shape and it gives you the cars that best fits your needs. We all have different comfort factors.

That works for me.

ā€œButtā€ seriously, I’d love to pick up a small SUV as an extra runaround vehicle, but smaller vehicles have smaller seats and most just wouldn’t be comfortable. For example, a Hyundai Kona or the new ā€˜22,Tucson might be great if the seats were comfy. I’m eager to sit in a new Tucson, coming this spring. If I’m comfy, I may spring for one.
