  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Genesis made a terrible app for remote start. It takes forever to start the car and now their servers are down to even log in and start my car. Is there any better remote start out there so I can ditch this stupid crap?290C7110-1097-43E7-84D6-9396C53BA811.webp

I’ve only gotten that error a couple of times. Most of the time when I start from my phone while leaving my cube at work, the car starts in under 1 minute. Used to be kind of slow originally but as the App was updated over time it seems the lag time went down. I like the App ok, but not sure I’m going to pay $200 yearly to keep it once I expire. There are lots of after market key fob start systems, some even programmable to work off the factory fob, just not sure the distance they work from? I like being able to start my car from within my work building which is a large fabrication and assembly shop. Not sure a fob would be able to do that?

Probably not. I've had a few cars with fobs to start and the stated distance is outside, line of sight. Pretty reliable from the supermarket checkout line. At work was easy for me because my office overlooked the parking lot and my car was 100 feet away. but from the shop, not so good.

Yeah the app has been down for several days, Not just Genesis, Hyundai as well. Not sure what their malfunction is.

Still down for you? I just asked for a vehicle status and it worked fine.

Friday it would not do a start for me. Just did a door lock and it did it.

i was as of 3:00 this afternoon, haven't checked since.

I imagine they would never admit it and we'll never know for sure

Why in the hell does it not just automatically lock the doors before starting? It is painful to try and start, get the message that the doors are not locked... send message to lock doors... ok done... try and start again... Painful I say. My time is to valuable and if in a rush it defeats the purpose.

I miss my ancient 2013 Ram keyfob remote start and getting in with the seats pre-heated.

In a worst-case scenario, this could have some very serious ramifications if the badguys have taken control over the network and are able to randomly send commands to vehicles that are signed up.

I've always had that thought about On-Star and it's ability to remotely shut down vehicles. If I understand correctly, Genesis has that shutdown ability as well on at least some models.

Why in the hell does it not just automatically lock the doors before starting? ...
One guess is that it's a safety feature to keep you from unknowingly starting your car in the garage? Probably not, since you can lock and and then start it. I wonder if there is anyway to make it where it couldn't start in a garage? I just bought a 2018 and can't get services transferred yet. Could the previous owner start mine while it is in the garage? (I can't come up with any reason that he would do so, so I'm not really worried about it.)

It seems a few people have that option in the settings, but not all of us. Mcc has it on his iPhone. No idea why not everyone does on the latest version. Hopefully coming soon.

the remote start will not lock the doors automatically first. you must do it yourself either at the vehicle or via the app.

that is what the previous poster was complaining about. apparently for some people it is difficult to have to send 2 commands to the car - 1 to lock it, then one to start it.

of course that is easily remedied by always locking it when you exit, but I guess for some pressing the fob button or the button on the outer door handle as they close it is also difficult.

first world problems.

Not difficult, inefficient and needless.

Also pretty sure next time the car throws itself into park when I'm backing up in motion with the door open I'm going to freak out and sell it lol. Too many safety features for my liking. Lol

must be a g70 thing. I move my g80 with the door open all the time, never had it throw itself into park.

I do agree some of the safety tech is annoying, but it's there because apparently the masses need to be protected from themselves as common sense is an enemy to most folks

Yeah the app pretty much sucks right now. I just login on my computer and use the remote features from there. It has been saying “token expired” crap for a week now

While that is true, newer versions of the app allow you to do it on one step. For some reason, not all have the option.
Yes, I've done the lock then start but too often by the time the first command is sent you are almost to the car before you can send the second command.

It is really a simple programming solution to do it in one step and save many people from that first world problem. It took years to get it done half assed so why not finish the job? . Petty? Sure, but it is a minor programming issue that should not exist.

This is a luxury market they are aiming for. In their headquarters do you think they have to fill the tank before flushing the toilet? Of course not. Do it right and make it a simple one step.
