  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I have to say it, the G70 needs a new transmission ASAP

Fair enough. It’s just that your RPMs and shifting point was a little off, so that definitely threw people off your initial point. Along with explaining what a transmission is to people already on a car forum :p

Yes, the transmission is the weakest point of a very overall strong car. But it’s definitely due to transmission tuning, something they could fix or iterate on. Along with tuning companies like LAP3 now able to adjust things like launch control, the future is bright for the G70
This. The transmission behavior is neutered by engineers for longevity reasons, from what I understand. It can shift faster, and it could be programmed to shift at redline. It's an in-house build in order to save money. In typical Hyundai fashion, they will likely iterate it to an extremely competent level, this is the first generation, so it's going to have issues. Complaining about this is not going to change it, only the timeline of revision that Hyundai has specified will do that. I have no doubt it will be iterated until it is more than good, just like they do with everything. The qualify and performance for this generation of vehicle 1st gen, 1st year, is /was amazing, and light years ahead of just about what any other maker could have done, imo. And I complain about this car a lot, trust me.

Also, I think you are expecting too much or something - I just re watched The Smoking Tire's review of the G70, and he is very very complimentary of the 8 speed transmission **specifically** - Matt says it's great, and he has zero issues, and he loves how it will bang the rev limiter in sport manual mode. Me too. If you want PDK or DSG levels of whip crack gear change, well, you're gonna have to buy a Porsche VW product. Matt compared it favorably to the new - 2019+ bmw transmissions.

It look's like the gearing is similar to the spread in the V8 G80 which has existed since well before the G70 was developed, I wonder if they didn't make enough changes to the shift mapping.

Have you tried changing drove modes? One of the changes with drive modes is shift points.

I though the transmission was really laze till I got a throttle by wire pedal controller, made a huge difference in shift behavior.
Hi just wanted to say I have a 2013 5.0 rspec I bought it with 30 000k now she has 99 000k I bought a throttle by wire pedal controller the sprint booster it literally made my car so insanely fast smoking the tires when barley touching the pedal I was so pumped finally the car acted like a real performance 5.0 but after only a few short months my transmission started to act up so I took it to the dealership and they cleaned the throttle body ect well that didn’t fix the problem so I took it to a dealership in Langley and was told the same day I need a new transmission and the sprint booster was to blame after talking to the guy there we agreed the transmission is complete garbage and they want a around 7k to replace it with the same garbage transmission apparently the car transmission was geared like that because it can’t take the power of the 5.0 v8 what a joke does anyone know of a different transmission that will work for my 2013 5.0 rspec please help

post in the correct forum for help. You are in the G70 space, filled with G70 owners.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
No offense, but people modify their cars thinking they got one up on the original engineers (this transmission limits torque in the lower gears, that's so unfair, and I'm gonna change it to go full power and slam those effers into place!) and then are surprised when the car falls apart. I saw this in my GTI forum (engines and turbos blowing up because they pushed boost up 100 hp), saw it in my G37 forum (hey why is my suspension all f**ked up now? It's not because I'm stanced with like 200 degrees of negative camber and then drive like a maniac? no way!) saw it in my Charger forums, and ad infinitum. You modify the basic tenets of the car and very likely shit will hit the fan. Getting rid of torque protection or massively overboosting your car (etc.) is not the same as adding a CAI or exhaust. I won't get a JB because I know it's not good for the car, and will shorten the life of the engine. I plan on having it for decent period, trouble-free.

I never thought the trans in the G70 was any worse than ZF-type transmissions in Alfa/Audi. I will say that the Auto/Stop start system and its interaction with the trans in the G70 is very well sorted out and smooth.

I keep watching reviews where the reviewers absolutely love this transmission, and compare if favorably to many others. This is a BS thread.

I'm pretty fussy about transmission performance and I think it works quite well. Sure, if I try I can trip it up but I'm pretty sure I can do that with any auto transmission. I find it to be quite responsive and pretty quick to shift.

Nothing wrong with the G70 transmission. It works well

Transmission is the weakest link on G70..

It's OK for everyday driving but for anything more... its crap.
Sure if you JB4 it, you expect to "pay to play".. but you can't even do that. It doesn't let you play.. its sloooooow and it appears to overheat.

For years, on stock DSG tranny, I could easily take my tuned MK6 GTI around the track for 20 laps non stop.
G70? Tranny would start acting up after 5 laps. And did I mention its slow? Try to triple downshift in hard braking and then floor it..
In comparison, my buddy's m240i was behaving much better..

^ Dear Lord...another f’ing troll

Stating personal opinion backed by facts is trolling? Ok buddy..

I don't think you know what a fact is bud :ROFLMAO:
Ok, do you have other facts with G70 teanny performing well on a track? Have you taken your car to the track?

G70 is not a track car. If I wanted a track car I'd buy a car suitable for use on a track.

Seems the issue is people wanting a track car when the g70 isnt intended to be a track car.

Its a "luxury sport sedan" but more of a luxury car with good performance. If you bought it to track, you bought the wrong car.

Coming from the BMW world, its the same thing people there do. They buy the 3 series "sport" model, and then are confused why it doesnt track as well as the m3.

That's exactly what I've said 🤷‍♂️:
It's OK for everyday driving but for anything more... its crap.
