  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I'm dying to know what the large Genesis CUV will look like...

Damn, no comments, huh? Rip it apart if you like. It's okay...

Well, (as you know) it's supposed to look like the GV80 concept - which (without significant changes to the lighting and grille) would be a mistake.

Really do not want but let's see what it actually looks like when all is said and done... Do you have any thoughts on the Kia Stinger, while I have your attention?

(That grille design is so ungainly; really hope it gets some of the New York concept treatment.)

Haven't I said enough about it over on GMI? lol

(Don't worry, I'll eventually make it over to the Stinger forum.)

To sum up, really like what the Stinger brings to the table.

There are things that I quibble with such as certain details on the exterior and certain material choices for the interior (could also lose some weight, but that's not going to happen until the next gen platform).

Regarding the material choices, Kia didn't quite go far enough.

Where certain interior bits are made of real metal (aluminum), there are still parts (such as the door releases and metal-looking accents on the knobs - not sure about the paddle shifters) which are painted plastic.

My views on that are well known when it comes to touch-points (some here, thinking that's being too critical).

But apparently, all the metal-looking bits in the G70 are made of real metal.

That was due to the insistence of one of the persons working on the G70 (wise move).

So the G70 (until the G80's MCE or maybe not til the next gen model) will have the interior with better quality materials.

But btwn the G70 and Stinger, I would pick the Stinger (really don't care about having a lux brand or lux dealer experience - not all that it's cracked up to be and don't like to spend time at dealerships anyway - unless it's looking at/testing new cars).

Like the Stinger more when it comes to aesthetics (both inside and out) and while I would normally opt for the more sportier drive, the greater utility and space of the Stinger better fits my needs (think the somewhat cramped rear seats in the G70 is going to bite Genesis a bit; while not as bad as say, the ATS' rear bench space, it's goes away from the formula of offering more [space] for the $$).

But as good as the Stinger and G70 are purported to be (based on all the reviews) it will be the next gen of Genesis and (RWD) Kia models that really take the cake based upon having...

1. new, lighter weight platforms
2. new, more fuel efficient engines
3. new transmissions (whether that be the 10 spd AT or possibly a DCT option)
4. Biermann having had more time to work his magic (the i30N is getting absolutely rave reviews - some of those performance bits will work their way into Genesis and RWD Kia models).

Yes, its ugly. The grill is overbearing and wheels are ugly with the alligator skin on them. Overall shape is fine. Not sure about the headlights. May be better with one wide band rather than 2 narrow. . Front end would be better if the wide band of chrome was painted to tone down the gaudiness mass of metal. Accura grills are ugly for the same reason. Other opinions differ or it would not have gotten this far but it would never be in my driveway.

I really haven't been spending much time at GMI lately. It doesn't feel the same as it did years ago. I liked it better back then - even with all the people who still hailed Cadillac as the standard of the world...

The most shocking thing about the Stinger, to me, is the lack of surround view camera - especially when Canada gets it, even at a much lower price. That was a bad mistake. I really don't get it. But, when all is said and done, the Stinger does compare very well to the cars it competes with, the Audi S5 Sportback and BMW 440i Gran Sport. It can't be denied - Kia is officially an alternative. It took a single generation to make that happen. The CTS fought for three generations...

As for upcoming rear wheel drive vehicles - I've heard rumors of a rear wheel drive Optima. Have you heard anything? As for the Stinger forum, it would be great to have your presence over there. The domain name is really easy to remember: kiastinger.com :)

Just checking since you quoted the part about the Kia Stinger - but you do realize the car pictured in your post is the Genesis SUV concept. Right? Here's a picture of the Kia Stinger...

The top photo of the black SUV did now show up this morning. That looks pretty good. The white SUV is the one I think is ugly. The blue Stinger that I did not see looks pretty good.
I think I was confused this morning as I only saw 1 SUV

Well, there's only so many times one can rehash the mistakes Cadillac made with the Alpha platform (including not making it suitable for CUV-duty) with the ATS, CTS and now Camaro paying the price in sales volume.

Disappointing, but not shocking (remember all the complaints here about features Hyundai left off the 1G Genesis?).

Like with the original Genesis sedan, pricing is key for the US market and I suspect that's what the decision-makers at Kia USA were concerned with.

However, would have liked to have seen it including in the top trim (surround view camera is very useful when emerging from an alley-way or making a turn onto an oncoming street when the view of oncoming traffic is blocked by parked trucks/vans), but I suspect that we'll see such features added in the near future.

Gonna wait until US pricing is confirmed (along with the feature-set), but will be a bit surprised if US pricing ends up being higher (if not a good bit higher) than Canadian pricing, as usually, it's the other way around (due to the size of the Canadian market).

That would be news to me and frankly, don't buy it.

The Optima in SX-L trim already intersects the Stinger in pricing and in other markets (such as Australia) there's even less space in pricing btwn the 2.

A RWD Optima would make that even worse (simply wouldn't make any sense).

Now, what I have heard are rumors of a smaller RWD Kia (tho, at this juncture, not taking them too seriously).

However, a smaller Kia sedan based on the Novo concept would be a nice 1 Series/2 Series competitor (but really, instead of that, Kia would be better off to make 2 luxu CUVs based on the Stinger and next gen K900).

The Novo concept is supposed to be the design direction of the Forte replacement, but think it would be wasted on an FWD econobox.

But then again, look at what Kia is planning to do with an estate/shooting brake version of the next pro_cee'd (Kia's European offering in lieu of the Forte).

Heck, take that basic design and lift it and it would make a very nice Stinger-based CUV.
