  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Impressions of 2013 Genesis R-Spec sedan

a $3K difference which is non-negligible, but I'm getting a weird vibe from that dealership

$37-38k for an Rspec is a good price, but not a "too good to be true" price for end of model year, so you might be OK.

Get a WRITTEN quote including VIN and all fees for the new car from the sales manager before you waste your time/gas.

Get a Carmax quote on the trade so you have paper in hand to show them what you can get for the trade. The dealer will know about the sales tax savings you get on the trade, so do the math beforehand to know what your net cost will be if you buy/sell separately vs. getting the tax break on your trade-in.

Then stick to your guns :)

Okay, I pulled the trigger today! I ended up getting it locally (Roger Beasley Hyundai in Kyle/San Marcos). I ended up paying about $39.5K, so more than had I gone to Houston, but still what seems to be a solid price. They gave me a decent trade-in on my Infiniti and 1.9% financing for the difference. Overall I'm quite happy with the deal.

The sales guy thought I wanted black/cashmere which they had in stock, so he had to trade for a white/cashmere car from another dealer just outside the Austin area. The car arrived toward the end of the business day so I'm just taking delivery of it tomorrow morning.

I'll post my own extended impressions after I've driven it for a while, but at this point I'm really excited about getting it in the morning! Thanks again for all the help!

That sounds like a super deal for an RSpec. Congrats!!! Also, that white is waaay better than black will ever be. Great color combo IMO. :)

Congrats SCwells72, and :welcome: to the club!

PS - don't forget to change your tag line... you no longer own one only in your dreams! :D

White/cashmere - look forward to pictures! Congratulations and welcome! :D

The car is really gorgeous! I'll take pics later today and post them, but right now my son is napping right above the garage and opening the door would likely wake him!

After playing around with it quite a bit and setting things up to my liking, I have a few questions that I thought I'd ask:

1. The auto-folding side mirrors seem to be linked to the key fob only (aside from the button on the driver's armrest controls). Is there any way to link them to the keyless entry system instead so that if I push the door handle button twice, they fold/unfold? Or even better, is there any way to make them fold on Park and unfold when I move into gear?

2. The USB port works great with a USB memory drive. The only one I have sitting around is 4GB, so I'm going to grab a cheap 32GB one that should hold my entire music collection. Is there any advantage to copying all of that onto the car's internal storage if I'm planning to dedicate that memory drive to the car? The only advantage I could come up with is being able to charge my phone on long drives while still listening to music. Otherwise it seems to index the music and organize it into artist/album/genre even from the USB device. That's REALLY nice, by the way!!! My previous cars haven't been as friendly to music on raw MP3 devices!

3. Does anyone have any recommendation for configuring the audio system for optimal sound staging? At this point the only things I've done are enable the simulated surround feature and raise the bass a few notches. It sounds great, but I'd love to get others' opinions on how to make it sound better. I'm not an audiophile, so I'm really looking more for a rich sound field more than 100% perfect playback.

I think those are my main questions right now. I still have a LOT to learn about the car, for sure, and am looking forward to my first road trip in in a few weekends from now.

As always, thanks again!

Be aware that the USB drive is not in surround sound. Only way you can replicate the 5.1 surround sound is if it's encoded in 5.1. Listen to an HD radio station and/or get your a 5.1 surround sound DVD audio disc. LOADS of difference in the quality. Initially I was disappointed with my sounds as I was using a thumb drive and thought yuk... this ain't squat... then did research and found out about the things I just mentioned. It's really audio magic in an automobile with the 5.1 surround sound.

Best of luck with your questions and you'll come to love this car more and more every day. Heck, when I go out in my car, I end up just driving around a bit because I like it so much!

Congrats on the car and welcome to the club.

As for the mirrors, you've found all the ways that I know of to fold them in.

Didn't realize you could fold/unfold via the FOB. How does that work?

I wish there were some presets for audio settings or a more robust EQ too. All things being said though it is a great sounding system.

Congrats on the new ride, you'll love it!

Double tap lock to fold and double tap unlock to unfold.

Right-on that totally works, thanks. I missed that one in the manual.

Not really sure of the usefulness of that feature but hey another trick the car can do. I think a double tap to lower the windows or something would be more useful. :)

If it's like other cars I've driven in the past, you should be able to roll down all the windows and open the sunroof by holding down the unlock button for five seconds or so.

Hmmm, I'll give it a try. Would be a hidden feature then because I saw nothing of the sort in the manual. Honestly, I don't remember reading about the double-tap mirror trick either. Could have easily missed it but I usually give the manual a pretty good once over when I get a new car :)

The windows/sunroof don't on my 2012 R-Spec - the mirrors do.
