The current Primacy set is on their last leg and quite noisy IMO. Discount Tire said they'll have 10-15% off this Black Fri so I'm ready to pick up some new rubbers.
Here's what I have that are reasonable in price/tread wear. All have decent reviews but would like some input if any of these have been too noisy/harsh.
Pirelli P zero+ ($170) 50k
Pirelli Strada ($167) 70k
Pirelli P7 ($201) 70k
Yokohama YK740 GTX ($180) 60k
Continental Control Contact ($155) 50k
Continental Extreme Contact DWS06 ($164) 50K
I just replaced a set of Pirelli P-Zeros which were close to worn out after about 40,000 km or about 25,000 miles which was as much as I had gotten from the Michelins they replaced. The Pirellis were great when new, very quiet and comfortable. After I while they developed vibration issues which were not completely remedied by repeated balancings and the the replacement of one which could not be balanced. I just put on a set of Goodyear Exhilarate which is now the highest rated ultra-performance all-season tire according to very recent testing by Consumer Reports. I literally have driven on them only once on the highway where they felt perfectly smooth and secure, but perhaps a touch noisier than the Pirellis. I also had the sense that passing over cracks in the pavement was louder although there was no actual transmission of vibration into the car. In other words, you can hear but not feel the irregularities in the pavement. So far the absence of vibration of any kind makes me happy with the choice, but time will tell.
