So after the issues with the AP Kit I went ahead with the Injen Kit. I’ve only seen one other person on these forums that said they fitted the Injen kit to a G70, I shot them a PM to see how their kit worked but haven’t gotten a response. For the most part the Injen Kit fits fine on a G70 but there are some things to be aware of.
- Air Filters: The provided are filters have an overall length of 9”. Because of this they have contact issues at multiple points. Driver side filter cap touches a body seam. Filter side touches a body seam and touches a mounting tab for the factory air box. Passenger side filter cap touches a body seam. Filter side touches a wiring harness. Fix: I ordered a pair of Spectre filters P/N 9131. These are 6” overall length. These filters still have one contact point on either side but that’s remedied by adjusting the intake pipe mounting angle slightly. And I mean very slightly.
- PCV Line & Vac Line Hoses: The replacement hoses provided in the kit aren’t really up to the task without modification. I had to trim about 1/4” off of the vac line hose for a better fit, it’s a tough fit but it works. PCV Line Hose, this one I couldn’t get to work without a major kink so I modified the OE PCV valve hose by cutting about half of it off and using the actual molded hose to match up to the odd angle of the bung on the intake pipe. I’m a little impressed with myself as to how well it turned out.
Other than these few things the Injen Kit fits fine on a G70. I emailed Injen with my concerns, and some pics of said concerns, and the response I got back was that they had never actually test fit their kit to a G70 and did not recommend going off of “if it fits a Stinger then it should fit a G70”. I’m not sure if Injen plans on test fitting a G70 but if they don’t I wouldn’t be surprised as the G70 market is pretty small comparatively.
Does it kinda suck that I had to buy a new set of filters to fit my new kit? Yes, it does. But that’s also something we, as G70 owners, are going to have to be aware of when going by the “it fit a Stinger so it should fit a G70”. Am I satisfied with the Injen kit? I am now after buying another $40 in filters. It would be nice if Injen does do a full test fit on a G70 and update the kit as needed, but I’m not expecting them to do anything about my situation.
I did note that some of the Stinger installs of the same kit had complaints about the fitment of the PCV & Vac Line hoses, but I didn’t see any complaints about the filters themselves. It is possible that 1) I got the wrong filters in my kit or 2) Stinger engine bays are just different enough that intake kits from any manufacturer are not going to be an apples to apples fitment between the two cars.
I’ll post up some pics in a bit, my G is being detailed right now but when she’s clean again I’ll pop the hood.
