  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

With help from others on this forum site I attempted and successfully installed a Jbl basspro hub subwoofer in my 2016 genesis sedan ultimate. I had to modify the spare tire tool tray as you can see in the photos, but if I decide to remove sub I can glue the tray back together and reuse as normal. The car is very insulated so it doesn’t provide ground shaking bass, but fills in the low end much nicer now. It shakes the rear view mirror and had to cushion backside of license plate, but sounds clean with punch. If anybody else attempts to try this you will have to maintain the height of tool tray to support the trunk mat and keep it level so measure twice and cut once. I didn’t post pick but the tool tray sits nicely on top of sub and the trunk mat sits as if nothing was changed. Also you will need a 10mm 1.25 threaded rod ,washer, and nut for hold down extension .E5DD2000-FBCB-4664-8080-B99629D06C8A.webpF0B56B87-610C-4FB8-810C-341B063B9EEA.webp16B928BB-C516-412E-9CF7-845037D8EBC2.webp9688CC7A-A974-4780-BD0F-90BE368EE67A.webp

Nice. I saw one of those spare tire subwoofer enclosures being sold online and considered buying one myself for my Genesis. I decided against it due to the Genesis very insulated trunk and the additional floor boarding that would cover the subwoofer which would just mute the sound per cost as opposed to a trunk mounted subwoofer; that subwoofer is not cheap.

However, the spare tire subwoofer does give a clean OEM look without sacrificing trunk space.(y)

Reminds me of my old Nissan Murano and Infiniti FX45 Bose spare tire sub-woofers. They used to hit hard for a stock audio system. I did not need to upgrade the bass in those cars like did with my Genesis.

Trunk is very insulated, almost thinking about building a Different sub box and having the port come out of flip down door of back seat.my son has a Chevy cobalt with a cerwin Vega spare tire sub , and with his car not being insulated as well seems more impressive .

Is it plug and play or do I need a nuclear physicist

You will have to tap in to the factory amp wires for signal and amp turn on, then connect power wire to battery and then ground. The hardest part was running the remote control in to the cabin.

Hello:
2017 G80 Ultimate new owner here.
I have seen the Bose? equivalent on several used cars when looking around recently. The bass on the G80 is poor in quality and loudness.
What was the cost of the JBL and did the cost include a subwoofer amp? Where did you buy it from?
I have placed a full size spare tire (1/2-3/4 inch smaller diameter compared to the new and not treadworn G80 tires) in the wheel well from my old 1995 Q45 which was just donated. So I cannot use the wheel well as you did. Would you suggest a sub box perhaps attached to the rear of the trunk or at the hump at the rear seating area instead?
Per the wiring and control issues, do you have any specific info or diagrams to share. My 2017 should be "almost" identical to the 2016. Any amp issues?
Thx in advance
From Nola with love
