  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Interested in buying a G70, a few questions.

Hey guys

I went to the local Genesis dealer and test drove a G70 with the 2.0T and 6MT. I have a few questions that the dealer was unable to answer.

1. What is the torsional rigidity of this car? I noticed the sunroof, which unfortunately can not be removed, used a large portion of the roof.

2. What materials are used for the vehicle's chassis, front and rear subframes?

3. What grades of high strength steels are used and in which areas?

4. Aftermarket support? The car I drove wasn't very fast...I was flooring it from gears 1-4 to keep up with local traffic.

5. What size final drive? 7 inch?

6. Is the clutch pedal adjustable? Stock setting engages right at the ending. Infact, during my test drive, I only had to push the clutch in about an inch to disengage the clutch. The remainder of the travel is useless.

7. Engine construction? (Open deck or closed deck, what items are forged, any piston oil squirters).

8. Corrosion issues? I noticed their corrosion warranty is quite short vs Euros. Euros have a 12 year corrosion warranty while the Genesis has only a 5 year warranty. Does Hyundai not adequately coat their chassis with cavity wax from the factory? Are cheap coatings used where it can't meet the 12 year guarantees?

Thanks!

Wow you guys. These are legit questions.

Not everyone just walks into a dealer and buys whatever is on the lot after pushing a few buttons.

I'm actually considering this vehicle, but before I do pull the trigger, I'd like to know this information.

This forum probably won't know how to answer that except with qualitative responses. If you want a numerical answer on torsional rigidity and amount of steel.... Google away young padawan.

Do you have that info for every car you've owned? Did you get it from the salesman?

Not to be dismissive, things like clutch pedal feel can make a difference in driving comfort and some are better than others so knowing about adjustment is a reasonable question.

Knowing the grade of steel in what sections is only one portion of how a chassis works though. Thickness and configuration are very important too. The best grade of steel in the wrong place is totally useless.

Neither did we. Youtube, google, and asking specific questions on forums is how it’s done

I couldn't find much I was hoping maybe someone here would have more info.

Guess I'll keep digging.

Yep, not from the salesman though. Usually from forum members who work for the manufacturer or have close ties with them.

Thank you for understanding.

I agree, I'd just like to know how much aluminum is used and the general structure. I got tired of making floor pans and rocker panels as the OEM had stopped producing them. If it's some UHSS part, then I would have to order them in advance.

Savage geese on YouTube. Check his stinger video, same chassis

I don't know what the G70 torsional rigidity is, but it's a tweaked version of the platform used in the G80, and that is 39400. I suspect if anything the G70 is stiffer (it feels stiffer anyway).

Not bad numbers. Nm/degree I assume?

Hood is aluminum. Body panel steel. Don’t know what grades? The G70 Unibody construction uses structural adhesives at some panel joints. A good number of sun roof issues exists as far as rattles and noises that could be attributed to a lack of body rigidity but no way to know for sure? Don’t have the 6sp so no idea about clutch and stuff though I have seen vehicles that pedal position is adjustable. I’m sure the salesman had some funny looks with being asked some of your questions?

#4 - yes. there are a few options. many guys go with the JB4 tuner. i am also a 6MT owner and have gone JB4. make sure you use Sport drive mode. any other mode with a 6MT is pointless. not sure what kind of local traffic you have, but i've never needed to floor it up through 4th gear to keep up with traffic.. your comment here along with with point #6 makes me wonder if something is wrong with the demo car.

#5 - this should all be available info, likely from a Genesis Corp rep. dealers may not have it handy, even if they should.

$6 - that info should be available. the service tech at the dealership will certainly know. it is a hydraulic clutch like all others. your experience varies from mine so i wonder if there is something amiss with the tester you drove.

Judging by your username, prob the same traffic (Surrey and Langley). Yeah I did have it in Sport Mode the whole time. The car did have a chipped windshield and oil stains on the engine cover 😶.

Odd, maybe I'm just used to dealing with GM and Ford dealers.

I'll give Genesis corp a ring and see what I can find.

^ another option would be to check with the Stinger forum guys. they are likely far more active and in greater numbers than the G70 crowd.

as far as i am aware the 6MT has the same LSD rear end as the 3.3T LSD. i looked up part numbers last year and they were the same...assuming the website was correct.

Are there competing vehicles you are considering that offer you such information you seek about their cars?

Both front and rear subframes seem to be made of high strength steel. Most if not all rear suspension components are also steel. Front suspension components are mostly aluminum.
