  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I've just started to notice a strong odor while driving. It's like burning rubber or oil. Doesn't seem to be constant but does make me wonder if there's something dripping on a hot tail pipe and maybe a vent somewhere that's not completely open. I have 1,600 miles on my Gen.

Thanks for any suggestions you guys may have.

Check to see if you have the back seat heat vent issue that has be discussed in here before. Haven't heard any direct reports of "strong odor", but it may help narrow down the source. The situation is A/C on in the front and reach around and put your hand in front of the rear seat vents and see if it is "burn your hand" hot. Fidling around with the knobs in back seems to get it back to cool air, but does not keep the problem from re-occuring.

Can you smell it outside too? If yes is it stronger inside or outside?

I experienced the smell of what seemed like burning or very hot plastic on two or three occasions during a day trip a few weeks ago when the car was brand new (150 miles on the odometer). The odor lingered for less than a minute each time. After the trip the smell went away and has not occurred since.

My car was much the same way... Almost gave me headaches when driving it... After about 1K miles, it was fine...

hmmmmmmm, after 1600 miles, the smell should go away i would assume... no?

i sensed that smell too but it has gone away after a few hundred miles later...

This happened to me last night as I pulled into the garage and I have 4000 miles.

BUT...that was right after I raced a local boys Acura TL (of course, I smoked him by the way :)).

I expected the smell though. It is a very addicting smell and it makes me want to run it hard all the time! :)
