  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Genesis Model Type
2G Genesis Sedan (2015-2016)
2015 Genesis V6 AWD, sig + tech but no ultimate, 75k. Recently (past two months) I've noticed that, on occasion but not 100% of the time, the first time I try to put the driver's window down each power cycle, it won't go down; thenceforth it works just fine - I've run it up and down a bunch after each initial failure and never any issues. Today, my wife just let me know that it took her five or six tries to get the window to go down, which is obviously an escalation of my car's war on my mental health - perhaps because it's realized that I've decided to accept the 25mph driveline flutter and move on with my life.

This doesn't seem to me like a calibration issue, but maybe it is; can anyone tell me if that's the case and a recal might fix it, or are we likely looking at a physical issue with the switch itself? I dug around the forum a bit but didn't find anything illuminating on the subject.

Assuming it's not a calibration issue, is it 90% a switch problem or might it be some other awful thing like some odd ground problem, CAN-bus issue, etc that would cause me to have the dealer swap the switch and then spend two grand replacing random crap until I push the car into an icy lake?

Appreciate any advice!

Learn to live with it, I suppose? Have had the exact same issue on and off for 5 of 6 years. Had the masterswitch replaced once, may or may not be the switch. Personally I doubt it. Have taken my car in so many times for the issue, pretty ridiculous that cannot be resolved.

Icy lake! Really? These 2015 Genesis sedans are for the most part bitchen cars. Don't do that, as it would be a waste. although it would make a nice artificial reef for largemouth bass.

Now, they May be temperamental at times and some parts are pricey but overall you know you love the car. Don't let a cranky window spoil it. Let's try to figure it out. Maybe the window is sticky to the gasket or the switch is intermittent.

Hah! I love the car; it was dirt cheap and my wife once told me that she walked by it in the parking lot once because it looked too nice to be something we'd own. Actually now that I consider it I'm not sure how to think about that... ;)

Anyway, I'm not convinced it's a mechanical issue. The window doesn't evince any other obvious signs of being mechanically sticky - though of course things like this can be misleading. So, let's say for the sake of argument it's mechanical stickiness - how would I go about ruling that in/out? The window moves in such a way (with a degree of speed control) that suggests that it might be difficult to use its behavior to judge the effort it's using to move.

As for the switch, yeah, that was my first thought - and so then the question is, is it a $25, five-minute swap to test that theory, or $250 at a dealer? I have a business and two kids so my days of fixing car problems myself are for the most part behind me, which changes the balance of sanity on stuff like this.

a:
I have same issue; worst episode was in the drive though line at the bank. Pretty annoying.
I've come up with a pat answer to all the people who love the look of my '16 and ask "what do you think of it?". I tell them "just like an Audi...the engineers designed a great car; the purchasing department ruined it."

b: I Googled "Hyundai window reset" and got a simple procedure; too soon to say if it worked or not.

Hi, I had an exact same issue, it was the rear passenger windows not opening when I want it use. However after trying few times it started open. try to to do "hyundia window reset" that will help you to recaliberate. I did try that method & it worked for me. better than before.
my car is 2016 ultimate pacakge.

My window switches are full of gremlins. Sometime it takes 2 or 3 presses to get a window to open or close. Very annoying.

On a similar note, the other day during some nice weather, I opened the front windows and thought it was strange that neither window went fully down. Both we sticking up a few inches but not equally down. Meaning the driver side was still showing an inch of glass and the passenger side was sticking up 4 inches. I did the up/down a few times and every time the windows would just pick a random spot to stop, and add to that, they were really slow to lower the closer to the top of the door they got. I had to press the button and push on driver side window to make it go all the way down.

No idea why this is happening. Seems more gremlins are creeping in this car by the day.

I've had this problem since I bough the car as well. Its very interesting that, on varied occasions, some windows come down, others dont - and there not always the same ones. I wait for about 10 seconds and try it again - eventually it works. Totally intermittent. I've learned to live with it - for now. I originally though it was due to weather (windows stuck) but I do not think that's the case.

My 2011 has the same issue. (mainly passenger side front.) Strangly enough, I've discovered that all I have to do to fix it, I literally hit the inside of the drivers side door armrest! (next to the master switch) Works everytime! My guess is that the electronics were designed with tech from a 1980's TV set!
