Invoice Prices for 2015 Genesis for reference

I don't think they can eliminate retail outlets, but in some countries the manufacturer sells direct to the customer without independent dealers. In most US states, that is illegal, which was in the news recently regarding Tesla automobiles.

That's an interesting issue. There are many arguments made for the franchise system as well as direct selling and both have their advantages. Our ad agency clients were on both sides of the issue, with the mfg's wanting to open their own retail divisions and the retailer's wanting to become more vertical and do the sourcing/mfg themselves. Often, very often, they learned that was easier said than done with each discipline calling for a cultural capability they just didn't have. Sometimes it did work.

The franchise system puts an independent business man in charge of the local operation who has made a big investment and that is hard to match with a corporate manager.

Of course, I retired about 25 years ago so the experiences I rely on may very well be outdated.

Correct there is no taxes paid but there is a markup on the item or products or services that's how we get charged as I said before we get we pay more than a retail customer.
I suspect the reason for that is that oil changes are typically a loss leader to get the car up on the rack so it can be inspected and then the service advisor will "see" other problems and services that can be sold to the customer.
 
Yes that is a lost leader we charge $200 for six oil changes and six tire rotations
 
Lol Ron Carter is one that is gouging. Hey gurl confirmed that one. 4100 over msrp. Hub hyundai/mitsubishi is the one that's email alias is moneymaker lol still going through the others. South loop hyundai and sterling McCall seem to be legit. jury still out on humble hyundai and Baytown hyundai as well as North freeway hyundai

Cool, I usually service @ Sterling, so might drop by their sales office when Hyundai Circle discount is out. My previous experience with Hub was not all that bad (the one on 290, not on I-10) - decent trade-in price, but they definitely couldn't do anything with the circle / (then valid) costco pricing...
 
The F&I office is the last chance to make a profit for the dealer before the consumer rides away. Many a low margin sale can be salvaged by the F&I guy, who has an excited new car owner in his office ready to get into his shiny new car. A perfect time to capture back some lost margin and 1/4 of a point interest on a loan is a lot of money over time. Most F&I staff are also very disarming by being pleasant and matter of fact - they don't seem like sales people? That is when most consumers let down their guard and the result is high profit paint protectant, alarms, warranties and tire plans.

Yep, last time I'm sitting in front of that smiling fraud with a laptop open and all the numbers in the spreadsheet and he's giving me 3 bogus numbers (which are way higher than what I have to pay according to the negotiated deal) and re-prints the whole set of docs - 3 damn times! After the 1st set of docs went to the shredder I asked him if my open spreadsheet tells him anything about my ability of watching the numbers... Apparently the answer was "no"...

Motegi Can you confirm whether or not the invoice price of $51,573 for the 5.0 Ultimate includes the $950 Freight charge? When I am ready to pull the trigger I want to know the bottom line number (cost) that the dealers breakeven point is.

Those prices look inconsistent in that the 3.8 MSRP prices do not seem to include freight, but the 5.0 MSRP price does include it.

Keep in mind that HMA pays dealers a 3% hold-back fee when the car is sold. The hold-back is based on MSRP.

I want my dealer to be there for my service and future car purchases. The other benefit for me is I can see my dealer from my window at work. I can literally walk there if need be.

So back to my question. Does the invoice price noted above include the $950 destination fee or not.

I didn't tell you that your dealer should not make a profit. You asked what the "dealers breakeven point is," and obviously the 3% hold-back is part of that. Whether or not you bring it up, has nothing to do with the price they give you.

Back to the freight cost, he posted the link at cars.com where he got the invoice cost info, so I don't know if he has any independent information on that. It looks to me that for the MSRP prices he posted (not sure if MSRP prices are from cars.com or if he got them from Hyundai website), the 3.8 does not include freight, but the 5.0 does.

Seems more and more dealers are discounting the 2015 Genesis as the supply has been building up on the lots.

So I'll bump this thread up for those who are currently in the market.
 
You guys are correct, the price I listed for the 5.0 Ultimate includes the $950 Destination fee.
