  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I picked up my new iPhone 3GS today and, after activating and syncing it, one of the first things I did was try it out in the Genesis. Like other iPhones, it still works perfectly with the Genesis (14 speaker lexicon system here) although the warning about it not being specifically designed for the iPhone still appears.

The best part of the new iPhone, though, is the voice control. Although the visual part of the iPod interface is disabled when the iPhone is connected to the Genesis the voice control still works so I can generate genius playlists while driving, a really nice feature that is not available from the Genesis. I haven't played with it much but so far I'm really happy with the full control over the advanced features of the iPod that voice control gives me while I'm using it in the car!

Good to know. I too just picked up a iPhone 3G S (white 32GB), but I haven't had time to play around w/ it much yet.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
you absolutely MUST install Pandora. It ROCKS in the Genesis. Far better than sat radio and FREE! (granted you have an Iphone with internet access of course)

Given how congested AT&T's network is and how revenue-happy carriers seem to be, it boggles me why they allow Pandora over the 3G network. Seems like they'd try to limit it to WiFi only.

Another nice aspect of the voice control on the 3GS is that it allows me to dial contacts from my phone but the audio is then paired with the car when the call is made. This solves the Genesis' problem of not being able to transfer a contact list from a phone. Now I can just use the contacts on my phone to dial and the bluetooth to talk. Sweet.

I have the Premium Plus genesis with Blueconnect so I'm not sure if this is also true for those with the Tech Package.

i guess since im a blackberry storm owner & have Slacker radio which is better to me than XM , i might be on the wrong thread LOL

How do you play your pandora in the genesis, I use my iphone 3g but I cant figure out how to play the apps on the radio?

Yea, I'm in the same boat. I use a Blackberry Bold and found Slacker to have MUCH better sound than Pandora. I liked it so much I paid for the subscription which allows me unlimited skips, favoritaes, bans, etc.. For those who love Pandora you ought to give Slacker a try. Its ability to allow you fine tune music as well is great.

What the HECK is the "Premium Plus Package"? I was told I have every option available, so what do I look for?

For the Genesis 3.8 sedan (V-6 model) there are 4 main opotion groups:
1: "base" model (which would embarrass many "fully optioned" cars from other brands)
2: Premium Package. This includes extra leather, 15 speaker (upgraded from 7 speaker base) Lexicon Logic 7 surround sound stereo system, 6-disk CD changer, seat position memory, auto-this-n-that, etc.
3: Premium Plus Package: Premium Package with 18 inch alloy wheels.
4: Technology Package: Premium Plus Package with 17 speaker Lexicon Discrete 7.1 Surround Sound stereo system, in-dash nav system, 6-disk CD/DVD changer, Driver Information System, HID auto-leveling headlights, Adaptive Front Lighting, front & rear parking assist sensors, rear backup camera, cooled driver seat, etc.

The Genesis 4.6 (V-8) model comes in two flavors:
1: the "base" model that is roughly equipped the same as the 3.8 with the Premium Plus package.
2: Technology Package similar to the 3.8's Tech package.

So if your car is a "Tech" package model (in-dash nav system is the big giveaway) then it's got "every option available.". All Genesis models/option packages include some sort of iPod/USB/MP3 capability but the implementation varies slightly depending on which stereo system is in the car. They should be similar... but the various software loads unique to each model stereo could have unique quirks. Just like the Bluetooth integration: on non-Tech package cars it's a "module" installed in the ceiling if I remember correctly, near the dome light controls. On tech package cars, it's built into the stereo/nav system so there is a sunglass holder in the ceiling instead. Either will "do" Bluetooth but the actual electronics and programming are totally different. So they might have different "oops" personalities - e.g. a non-Tech car might Bluetooth connect to a phone that a Tech car might not see and vise-versa... even though both should theoretically connect to any Bluetooth phone.

Voice control is a very nice touch! I can not upgrade just yet, so this gives me something to look forward to.

IMO, all Genesis owners should have an IPhone. From a Car / cell phone integration perspective, there is no comparison.

Another option to consider is Imeem, (free app on IPhone). The advantage Imeem has over Pandora, is that is allows you to load your favorite songs in a folder and will play only those songs when you select that option. So, for example, you do not have to listen to songs you may not prefer from a favorite artist. The drawback is you have to load your favorite songs on their website from your PC, and not all songs have the same great sound quality as found on Pandora. All that said, I loaded about 300 songs and listened to them all on a trip from Florida to St. Louis, MO. (about 15 hours), without skipping one song, because they were all my pre-selected favorites.

I know you are right and as a Blackberry owner I'm jealous. The AUX input I'm sure will work fine but why not have Bluetooth Connectivity for the Stereo?

Mikey, you do have every option available. The premium plus is a step below the tech package in the V6 line. You have the top of the line in the V8. It doesn't get any better than yours.

P.S. Mikey, I forgot to add what you should look for. You should look for envious stares from everyone who doesn't have one like yours including me. I have the V6 with tech package.
