  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

iPhone 5 cable

Sweet. Now if I could find one for sale. They seem like they are discontinued.

So the USB to "Lightning" cable does NOT work (as expected) in the Genesis with the iPhone5. And apparently Apple will not be shipping any 30-pin to Lightning adapters until Oct :(

All I get is a resetting phone while it scans USB connection, then it finishes and tells me "unsupported USB device".
As soon as I can get my hands on an adapter I will post the results.

2011 4.6

FYI, Hyundai Engineering has already contacted Apple about the 30 pin converter, to see if it will be compatible with Hyundai's cable. The expectation is "yes", but until they get their hands on them no guarantees.
Also, numerous Equus owners have asked Hyundai about this issue. They're aware that this is a potential problem and giving it serious priority.
Though I reminded them that a higher priority would be creating an upper console in which the iPhone actually fit while plugged in. As it did in my Gen, but not the Horse.
Sigh.

Apple strikes again. Gotta make those billions somehow. Proprietary cables FTW.

Sincerely,

- Guy who finally broke down and bought an Apple product for the first time last month (new iPad, which I like, by the way. Very much)

Seriously. This is the kind of stuff IBM and Microsoft used to do when they owned their respective markets. Now Microsoft has to beg people to use their server software and IBM keeps selling off more and more hardware divisions until eventually they'll be a clone of Anderson Consulting. Thankfully, Apple's days are numbered, and this kind of nonsense can cease.

All have to say is.... Android FTW! Smh to all the iPhone nuthuggers -___-

That is all... Carry on :)

Really? MS Windows Server remains the dominant server OS, while Windows still has >90% of the desktop/laptop OS market. And your statement about Apple's days being numbered seems to be based on what you want to happen, rather than on facts.

Truth is, the new connector is only the second change in the 11 years since the original iPod came out in 2001. The first was when Apple implemented the 30 pin connector in 2003. That was a proprietary design, as is the new one. There are sound technical reasons why Apple designed the new connector the way they did. I wish that they provided an adapter with every iPod and iPhone, but they didn't.

As BacktoHyundaibychoice said, it remains to be seen whether Apple's adapter will work with Hyundai's existing cable. However, I've always found it awkward to use an iPhone as an audio source in my Genesis, so much so that I eventually bought a cheap iPod on eBay to keep in the car permanently. A USB stick works, too, but I prefer the iPod because I can load new music onto it wirelessly, which I do often.

Keep old iPhone for music- leave in car all the time with old iPhone plug.
iPhone5 for calls and other- what I will do.

30-pin adapter now shows preparing to ship, might be here this week. I'll let you know if it works fully.

.....one of which was to NOT increase transfer speed.

Nope, they have made at least two more changes that I know of... About four years ago, they changed the charging from Firewire to USB. That killed many accessories. Then with the iPhone 4, they made the plug physically smaller which made many accessories a little inconvenient. I think there was one other change prior to the charging thing, but I cannot remember for sure.

Apple is constantly changing that plug. I wish they would leave it alone.

Nope, only two changes: Firewire to USB and USB to Lightning.

I plugged in the USB charging cable that came with my iphone5, as soon as I plug in the USB port, the phone keeps saying charging - not charging - charging etc.,

Is my car at fault or the USB port is not supposed to be used to charge an iPhone

Thanks

Mine does the same thing. Let's see what happens when the 30pin adaptor finally hits the market.

My Apple Lightning to 30 pin adapter plug arrived today via FedEx from Apple.

I anxiously plugged it in hoping that I would get audio and my steering wheel controls back working again. Unfortunately all it does is charge the iPhone 5. I get no audio through the Lexicon system and no controls through my steering wheel.

Back to the drawing board.

Don't forget that they shrunk the plug with the iPhone 4. It was minor, but the associated new accessories would not work with the older, larger plugs.

Crap! Apple major league screwed the pooch on this one. What an epic fail.

Word on the street is that Toyota is working on a firmware update for their system to try to get it to work with the iPhone 5.

Nooooooooooooooooooo!

Mine arrives tomorrow but now I really don't care........

Well that sucks! Pretty much no reason to get an iPhone 5 now even though my brother-in-law is an Apple engineer and worked on the damn thing.

Some interesting Android options coming out for the holidays;)

Great news!

Got my 30-pin to Lightning adapter today, went out to my 2011 4.6 (Tech std), plugged in the OEM Hyundai cable, attached the adapter, unlocked the phone, plugged it in and started the car.
I have audio and steering wheel controls work fine! :)

Not sure what changes they made for 2012 to the Lexicon or if that has any impact. Knowing that the Lightning adapter's 8-pins are dynamic I was prepared to try several scenarios - adapter on cable plug into phone, adapter on phone plug into cable, with and without car running, but the first combination I tried worked.

Disclaimer - I was having intermittent audio issues and the dealer installed a replacement radio (at least they said they did, not sure how to really check this) about 2 weeks ago.

That is great news. I have read on other sites that people got the adapter to work in late Kias and Hyundais. I have also read that it has not worked with iTunes Match.

Genesiswannabee, were you using iTunes Match on yours?

Mine should be shipping any day now.
