Interesting... I get a fairly "normal" charge rate. 500 mA is indeed pretty low. I wonder if this is specific to your vehicle, or if it is the same for all 2Gs?
I have no other G2 Genesis to compare this too right now, but I do currently drive a Sonata with Android Auto that gives 466 mA on the USB port, my car charger adapter (not the same as the one on my Genesis at home) gives 1800 mA. I know that USB cables can have a huge influence on the charging ability, so I always use the same phone and cable to compare.
I was driving from JFK to New Haven this afternoon in the Sonata rental (a huge middle finger to NYC and CT drivers, what a total bunch of $#@holes on the road here - unbelievable) and connected the phone to the USB port, it had discharged slightly (66% to 58%) during the two hour trip while powering Google maps and Pandora on Android Auto.
I then connected the same phone, same cable to the cigarette lighter adapter and got 1800 mA and 2% charge in 3 minutes - of course Android Auto doesn't work without a cable connection to the phone, but I did search for another address on Google maps while charging.
Side note: Android Auto (Google Maps, text to voice and Pandora) works 100x better than the navigation system and voice control system on my Genesis Ultimate - that's not an endorsement for the system in my car. Google maps has my Navigation system for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and any other meal that Hobbits can come up with between these ...
