  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I am unable to get my iPhone to work in iPod function with my Genesis. I have the tech package. I got the special iPod connector made by Hyundai but it appears to be just that, an iPod connector, not an iPhone connnector.
When I plug in the iPhone with the iPod connector I get a message (on the phone) that the cable is not compatible with the phone.

Has anyone successfully gotten an iPhone to work in iPod mode with the Genesis? For that matter has anyone gotten an iPod to work?

The phone works with blue tooth but not the iPod function.

Hmmm, 1st-gen or 2nd-gen iPhone?

I am picking up my v6 with tech on tuesday and I have a new 3G iphone so i will let you know what happens

As far as I can tell the iPhone & iPod are two different animals as far as the DIS is concerned.

However, since you can connect a movie camera to the AUX jack [next to the iPod connector] you should be able to connect the iPhone there as well, not as a phone, but as a way to play video, assuming of course the iPhone plays video clips. [and it has a video out jack]

The overall question has to be is the DIS upgradeable? Currently it is certified for up to 5th Generation iPods.

iTouch, iPhone, new iPods in the next couple years who knows what Apple will come up with? All brands of music players can be played through the headphone jack, but it is not the same as full menu integration on the display screen. Hopefully the Genesis will be able to keep up with iPod integration as Apple technology evolves.

I can not connect the iPhone at all. I have tried the special Hyundai iPod cable and a standard cable hooked up the the head phone jack.

I just got it figured out. You need a standard 1/8 inch stereo cable with a headphone adapter for an iPhone. Available at Radio Shack made by Belkin. You have to control the music from the iPhone.

Any brand MP3 player can be used this way in AUX mode, but if you paid for the iPod adapter you would be happier with full menu integration in a tech package. Hopefully Hyundai will support iPhones music player on the Genesis in the future.

Not sure if this is a similar problem, but I bought a iPod Dock/light for my wife the other day and the documentation inside stated that it was not compatible with the iPhone 3G. I guess they must have changed something. She has an iPod Nano so it wasn't a problem, but perhaps that's what's going on with your phone as well.

Paik,

You need to get the special iPod cable from a Hyundai dealer. Once plugged in ignore the message about airplane mode and go to iPod mode on the phone. My cable has a problem fitting into the phone. Once I force the connection it works. I will eventually get a new cable and try it out in front of the parts guy at Hyundai. I have to to do quite a bit of jiggiking of the phone connection to get it to work which makes me think I need a new cable. Another problem that I had was I did not have the sound turned up high enough to hear above the air conditioner.

Hey guys, I wanted to update! I just spent 10 minutes in my car just fiddling with the iPhone 3G. I don't know HOW I did it, but I got my iPhone integrated with the DIS!!!!

Again, I don't know exactly how, but I can give you all the information I can about it.

Fire and foremost, I used the special Hyundai iPod cord ($29.99). Don't use your normal iPhone USB cord.

One of the first signs that you're on sort of the right track would be that your car at least recognizes a device as an iPod and saysing "Initializing." The first couple time I plugged in my iPhone, I didn't even get this message. All I got was "No external device detected." So if you get the "Initializing" message you're on the right track. At that point you will see behind the "Initializing" message that the screen reads

iPod
USB
Aux (I think, don't remember for sure)
Settings

For me, the "Initializing" message wouldn't stop at first. I just let it sit for a few minutes with no results. I did this several times with no success. So at some point after unplugging and replugging, exiting from iPod mode and re-entering iPod mode, and even restarting my iPhone. Randomly, I saw that one time I went into iPod mode on the iPhone, the normal menu didn't come up, but instead the "Accessory Attached" screen came up. This is when you will probably see the "This accessory is not designed for the iPhone...blah blah blah" message. It will ask you to turn on airplane mode, just say "NO" to that and then your DIS should enter iPod mode! After succeeding to get it to work once, I unplugged it and replugged it several times to see if it would still work and it did.

I know this isn't a lot of help. My best advice is to just take 10 minutes or whatever and just do what I did. Try EVERYTHING. The key sign again is when your iPhone says "Accessory Attached" when you plug it into the Genesis.

You have access to almost all the features you would on your iPhone. You can browse by song, artist, composer, album, recently added, most played, etc. The only thing that I wasn't immediately able to find was a Shuffle/Random mode. This sucks since that's almost all I use when I listen to my music, but hell, I can't complain at this point. I will experiment with this in the future to try and offer some more help. If you guys want, I can take some pictures/video of it working.

You MUST control the music through the Genesis. You can't control the music through the iPhone once it's connected since all you see is the "Accessory Attached" screen. So you can use the mix of the steering wheel controls and the main console.

Enjoy!

Good job Paik. The bottom line is that you accessed your iPhone music library and played it using the Genesis DIS with the Hyundai iPod adapter attached, just like any other iPod...

This is very important for any potential Genesis customer who uses an iPhone to know!

I have not been able to get my ipod to work as well. Tried all 5 of ours (should cover all generations 2-5) but I did not buy the Hyundai cable yet. Do you think that would make a difference?

Most definitely! It will not work with a standard USB-iPod cable. You need to buy the Hyundai cable ($30) for full menu integration.

If you just want to play sound through the speakers you can plug in a headphone jack adapter, but the Apple USB cable will not do this.

Thank you. I check with the local dealer and they have one. I will go by and pick one up.

Buy a ipod controller cable and works like a charm. With Iphone and Nano. Awesome. Only $29.95

Good luck
