  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

iPod cable work with iPhones?

I'm not convinced that it's the cable. It's seeing the phone, but just not connecting to it. When I connect it the phone gives me the "this accessory wasn't optimized for iPhone" message, but doesn't ask me if I want to go into airplane mode. Which seems to be inconsistent with what everyone else is seeing. I also haven't seen anyone mention anything about the "Media Connection Error" that I am getting. For now I guess I just have to settle with the bluetooth option, but I don't really like it. The quality is bad, I can't see what song is playing, and I can only play/pause, no forward or back. I want to be able to scroll though my music and select a song. I guess Ill try to convince the dealer to let me try another cable to see if that is the problem.

It is definitely the cable. As I said earlier, I experienced the exact same problems and error messages you're seeing (including the "Media Connection Error". After tweaking the connection a bit, it works great).

As for the airplane mode message, like the person above me mentioned, that was changed in the latest iPhone OS. Anyone with the OS 4.0 does not get that message.

Today I got the cable for my Genesis sedan with tech. Yesterday, after fiddling with an ordinary cable out of the top of my iPhone 3G (4.0 opsys) I got the iPod to play (but of course, nothing on the screen). I also think it may be the cable. I tried the Hyundai cable today and the phone said the same "not compatible" as discussed here. Ignored it and it connected. But then for over 30 minutes it said "ipod is initializing". I called service and the guy said it takes a while to get the phone or ipod to dump all the songs. But I only have a few hundred songs. I gave up after 30 minutes and had to unplug the phone.

How long should an iPhone take to dump the music? (I probably have around 5 megs of music). Or do I have a cable issue?

Shouldn't take that long. I've found that when it works, it works. And when it doesn't... well If I fiddle with it, I can get it to work, but I'm usually too lazy to do so.

I had the exact same problem. I was also told the exact same thing by the dealership.

It really does seem to be a very flaky cable. Like I mentioned earlier, I can get it to work, but it has to be in a specific position. And the connection has to be very tight (in my case, the cable would keep coming loose). I really prefer to just stream it wirelessely through the Bluetooth interface. Far more convenient and hassle-free.

I have the '09 tech and a 3G - everything works fine pretty much all the time. Just out of curiosity, how do you stream your tunes thru a bluetooth connection?

My iPhone (3G) doesn't take more than 10 seconds or so to start playing after I plug it in. It does take a little while longer (less than a minute) to completely populate the song/artist/playlist menus. I have just over a thousand songs - don't know how much space that is.

Yeah...Still can't get any audio. If I crank the volume up, I can hear some distortion and a lot of static - but no actual audio.

I can stream it wirelesley through the Bluetooth interface, but I'd like to be able to use the cable as it provides a far more convenient interface by actually showing the playlists (streaming through Bluetooth doesnt)

How are you getting your iphone to stream audio wirelessly via Bluetooth? I cannot get my 2010 sedan to do this.

Thanks.

It's definitely the cable box, not the cable. Wiggle the connection at the box if you are having a problem. This sure seems like a common issue. Maybe Hyundai will come up with a TSB.

I know this post is old, but I am having a similar problem. New 2012 Genesis 3.8 with tech and premium package. Have iPhone 4s. Sound only comes out of left speakers when using the iPhone. Have all other functionality through stereo with iPhone. Tried an iTouch, same problem. Two new cords, same problem. Did anyone else having a problem get an resolution?

Turns out the problem was the USB and Aux connector itself. Dealer replaces and says now works. Picking up at lunch.
