  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I am sure many of you noticed the articles in the last few days about GM tracking its customers and Hyundai/Kia was mentioned in almost every article. Apparently with GM, there have been numerous documented cases of insurance policies skyrocketing after a driver's report from GM was sent to LexisNexis, then reported to their insurance company. Has anybody seen this happen with your Genesis vehicle?

Genesis privacy policy.

I'm sure they are. I don't care. Do you carry a smartphone? If so, you're being tracked. Do you use smart devices? If so, you're being tracked. Do you use advantage/discount cards? If so, you're being tracked.

If you don't want your insurance rates to increase, don't drive recklessly.

You can check to see what, if anything, they have reported on you, yourself.

Typical ignorant reply. Please go bury your head back in the sand.

If you signed up for "Connected Services" you are being tracked. All new cars (for at least the last 5 or 6 years & likely longer) have a device called the "Global Telematics Module". It is capable of tracking & reporting all the stuff in that article and more (like recording what's being said in the car). Supposedly you have to agree/opt-in for it to be activated, but if any of the alphabet agencies wanted to it could be activated and used against you. This has already been happening in the EU and has been talked about here (NY & Cali). They want to use it to control your speed via the geo fencing feature when you are in 'their' area. Just the beginning, lots more to come so buckle up & keep your hands & feet inside the ride at all times !!!

I understand that it's capable of providing that data but is Genesis selling that data to lexisnexis or anyone else? There needs to be more transparency and simplification in these user agreements we all sign. People shouldn't have to read 20 pages of tiny text only to find vague references to how their data will be used.

Well, that could be an answer "don't drive recklessly" the challenge becomes defining recklessly, pretty subjective I would think. Also, most of us would be not very supportive of "Big Brother" watching over us. Just saying.

Heard that driving with a heavy duty aluminum foil hat on will prevent them from reading one's mind! :ROFLMAO:

I knew there'd be comments like this from the sheeple  ........................

I'm not "supportive" of it either. But it's happening and there's not much you can do about it. Especially if you enjoy having and using today's technology. I refuse to live my life looking over my shoulder.

Driving recklessly isn't subjective. It's only subjective to those who want to do it. It's not very difficult to decipher between right and wrong. Most people just don't want to.

Peace and progress! 🤞

You couldn't be more wrong! Driving recklessly is absolutely subjective in the eyes of law enforcement and even more so when it comes to insurance.

"it's happening and there's not much you can do about it." Not with that attitude but you're wrong again. Many states have opt out protection.

Select the state drop down and if your state has an opt out option it will show up.

Oh come on, if he was serious he would have mentioned it works best with shiny side out.

For me, the 'value' the tech offers is not worth the price of the surveillance that comes with it, so I avoid those things whenever possible. I don't see it as looking over my shoulder, I see it as an intrusion on my personal privacy.

One of the big issues I have is that (as @rakker stated) it is being buried under mountains of documentation that is difficult (and lengthy) to parse. Many simply give up and don't read all the way thru or don't fully understand the implications of what they just signed.

I disagree 100% on the recklessly thing, it is very subjective. Just to use speed as an example ................
Being in small town FL there are a lot of geriatric types around here who view 5 mph over the limit as reckless. Many go 10 mph under the limit on the rural 2 lanes here and get pissed when others pass. So, what is reckless speeding ?? 5, 10, 15, 20+ over the limit ?? Many times it depends on exactly where you are and what conditions are like - 10 over in a 15 mph school zone would be considered reckless by most, but 10 over on the turnpike is BAU. But even that could change depending on traffic load, weather, time of day etc.

In any case, I certainly don't want some nanny ins. co. deciding for me what is reckless or aggressive !

I get your point but you do realize that going just 1 MPH over the speed limit is technically breaking the law. Again, people will stretch the narrative to support their point. As my late Grandmother always told me, if you're making excuses then you're probably in the wrong. I work in the insurance industry and have for 20+ years. Carriers rate for exposure. If someone is causing more exposure, the carrier has every right to collect premium for that exposure. Most who have a problem with being watched have something to hide. Again, I don't care for it and feel it's a lil invading. But that's the world we live in. There are always positives and negatives to everything. For example, one positive of Connected Services is that they can help you if you're in an accident. The negative, they have to track you to be able to do that.

But do note that not moving at the same speed as the traffic around you (even if it is ten over the limit) can trigger accidents and I consider that somewhat reckless.
A former coworker was pulled over on a back road and given a warning for going too slow, even though he was at the speed limit. (He was going exactly the limit because he got a warning from another officer the day before for going too fast.)

True. But the person driving the speed limit isn't causing the recklessness. The people driving over the speed limit are.

My Father-in-Law is a retired cop. Man, could I tell you some stories.

I can't control the speed that everyone around me is driving at, but I can control mine to reduce risk. The police are aware of the concept of going with traffic, and are generally okay with that if the traffic is safe. It is a mistake to assume that the speed limits are set as the safest travel speed. Often they are set for political or economic reasons.
Anyway, if you drive the limit on several roads around here, you likely will cause an accident. Even the police go with traffic.

We are +10 mph around DC lol

Are you sure? The slow driver may cause other to be reckless to get past them, depending on conditions. Safest is to go with the flow no matter the posted speeds.

Yes, I'm sure. If I wasn't, I wouldn't have stated it. Seems everyone wants to make excuses for bad behavior. The bad behaviour is the speeding, not the person who's obeying the law. Such is the world we live in today.
