  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Is it possible to use the USB/AUX armrest area?

I purchased a used 2013 Genesis RSPEC with 20k miles on it. I'm impress with the car, though it could've taken somethings from my 13 Sonata Hybrid (fully loaded), such as a button on the trunk and most importantly USB under radio dash (why would it be under the armrest?).

The charger under the radio doesn't work, or at least my plug doesn't work with it. So to charge my phone I have to lift up the armrest (inconvenient). Now this would be all fine if everything went as expected. The problem is when I use my charging cord and place it through the black hole (on upper level of armrest) down to the actual plug..the problem is when I close the armrest and try to reopen it. The cord is of course being squeeze thus making it difficult to reopen..which at some point it will break my cord (probably within a week) and worst case scenario while I'm trying to unjam the armrest by force I will most likely break the armrest.

How is everyone else handling their charger going inside the armrest? I feel like Hyundai drop the ball on something so simple. There should be a gap on the lid of the armrest to close around a cord.

I don't expect the world but something like that is way too small to overlook for any value car. Besides that the car is great but was wondering if I'm the only one with this issue.

There is a button on the trunk. It is on the left side of the license plate under the lip. I use mine all the time.

I leave my charger plugged into the center armrest all the time. There are two divots on the front left and right of the armrest top. So you close the armrest and your cable is out near the cup holder. I always leave mine plugged in and charge my phone when it is sitting in my cupholder.

Hope this helps.

Yuuuup, same here.

I use the outlet in consol. Check your fuse.

I use the outlet in the dash for my dashcam, it functions, agree with the above, check the interior fuse panels.

Coming from the Genesis Coupe, I could not be any happier with the two tier armrest and NOT having to leave my cellphone taking up cup holder space. Once a week I get out and see my accounts, most of them not in the greatest part of town, so being able to leave my phone in the car, without it visually tempting any passerby, and on a charger, was a huge plus.

At first the excess cable would push out the side of the console lid, a quick cable wrap resolved that.

If you don't want to use a cup holder just for your phone, you can slip it in the crack behind the cup holder "door" when it is open. It's the PERFECT phone holding spot, better than the cup holder and it doesn't take up the function of the cup holder.
I guess it won't work if you have a flip phone but if you have a flip phone still you can get bent.

The issue with the cord being crimped in the console because it slips out of those little notches; I don't have a way to solve the problem, buuuttt I found it easiest to hold the cord in the notch of the console lid with my fingers when I open and close it. Trying to position it in the lower notch and then close the lid was to much of a pain in the ass and distracting. I don't even need to take my eyes off the road when I just hold the cord in the upper lid notch.

I have since upgraded to a pretty nifty dash phone holder. It goes in the slot of the CD player and holds my phone via high strength magnets. It works perfectly for our car because there are no buttons around the CD player slot so you're not blocking buttons.

Take a look, It's awesome. It's also far less ugly and intrusive then any other phone holding device I've seen.

You can find flat cables on amazon. I use a tylt brand cable.

You still need to run flat cables through the notches.

Maybe I am talented - but I have no issue with running my cable through the notch and I use my center console all the time. No issues. Works great.

PS - Did the OP find the trunk button yet? :)

...and most importantly USB under radio dash (why would it be under the armrest?).
I find the USB location to be a brilliant. I keep my USB stick plugged in, all my music is available, and it's hidden away where no one sees it. My wife's RX350 has it in the same spot.

As for charging phones. Perhaps I'm lucky, but my GS5 lasts all day without charging and typically has 60%+ left before I plug it in at night. But as others have said, there are two indents that allow a cord to escape the armrest.

I keep change in the upper compartment for those time I head into the Boston area and deal with ridiculous parking meters.
