In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. I live in SoFL had the 2012 V6 Genesis for 9 months. My car is tinted a bit darker than the legal limit. Since the start I have felt the AC is a bit weak when the temperature gets past 90F.
Seems I have to put it to recirculate and it blows on high for a while but the air that comes out is not all that cold. Eventually it does cool the cabin.

I am up for maintenance so I would appreciate to hear from others in warm climates if their AC is weak also, or maybe I have a localized problem with my car?

Thanks,

Thanks,

If your car is sitting in the sun, don't use recirculate right away since the cabin temp of the car is MUCH hotter then outside. Roll down the windows for a bit to let the hot air out while the AC is going. After a minute or two roll the windows back up and let the AC and tint do it's job. It's much harder to cool down a vehicle that is over 150 degrees F, vs. 100 degrees.

Thanks, but I am not an idiot. I have lived in hot climates my entire life. This has nothing to do with recirculating hot air initially.

The air conditioner takes about 60-90 seconds to begin cooling my car. That is a lifetime here in LA. Tried all sorts of settings combos. My previous car a 2010 TL had instant on cooling. The air began cooling within 5-10 seconds, I think.

I don't know how Acura does that.

Otherwise the air seems to work just fine.

Thanks this is similar to what I experience. Very slow fan speed spool up then it has to run at full blast for at least 5 minutes before I can get enough cooling. This if i the car is moving. If stopped, I feel the cabin heating again up and the AC not cooling at a good efficiency.

Again we are talking 90-95F degree outside temp.

Similar to your experience?

IMO the situation you are describing ^ sounds like a failing condenser. Reason being that when moving the belt is spinning the condenser faster and thus making better AC. At idle the condenser should be able to hold its own, but it sounds like that's a no

Not quite. It has to run full blast for a bit of time (never measured how much time) but once it reaches set temp it acts normally.

Your welcome, and no need to be rude. My comments are helpful IMO, as I'm not going to recycle hot air in my vehicle until the cabin has cooled down.

The AC on the Genesis is a bit weak compared to other cars I have owned, but is acceptable once the car cools down. "Probably" nothing wrong with your specific car.

Might I ask what brand and type (ceramic, metallic, charcoal, dyed, etc) of tint film did you have installed?

You don't get it. I am not reciculating hot air right when I get in the car. Your comments were fine if I was a 10 yr old not an adult.

It is tinted with FormulaOne Pinnacle. I think it is ceramic but I am not an expert on tints. It is not "limo" dark but it is one notch darker than whatever is the legal std here in FL.

As for the AC what you mention is exactly my assessment, weaker than most othe newer cars, but it does work after a while. Thanks.

Mine seems a bit weak too on 95+F days after sitting in the sun a few hrs (West coast of FL). Have to get the car moving consistently over 30 mph for a few mins to get enough air across the condenser to get the AC to blow cold properly.

This can happen with either a) low charge or other system problem, or b) just a poorly designed and undersized condenser & weak electric booster fans that in total on 90+F days cannot generate the necessary heat transfer required to blow 45F air into the cabin.

Since it's under warranty, it can't hurt to bring it in to make sure it is just not low on charge or some other problem.

BINGO! This is exactly my experience. I will ask the service dept to check it. But frankly I think is a design issue. It is fine if the outside temp is under 90F after that it seems to struggle. Thanks for replying.

Great, and this is not stated in your OP, so kick me in the balls for trying to help.

I have the FormulaOne Pinnacle too -- great ceramic tint. Did you remember to tint the sunroof too? That helps a lot with keeping the heat down... Hope that isn't too childish a suggestion for you.

There was a time when we didn't see that many rude people in this forum, I have concluded that the low price point of the Genny is attracting a lower form of human being. And your comments are helpful, you've helped me before in other threads.

Cheers,
Staz!

That is a high quality ceramic tint film with excellent heat rejection, so the tint film is not the problem.

Since most people don't have after-market tinting on the windshield (illegal in virtually every state I know of), then it is always good to use a folding sun reflector up front if parking in the sun.

Hi GTech,

I also have Formula 1 Pinnacle Ceramic Tint at 28% and live in Central Florida. Car color is Sapphire Blue. It has been around 95 the last few days. I use AUTO mode and after about a minute my car cools at a very comfortable level.

I suggest you get the service department to test it.

It can be frustrating when others contribute ideas which seem not helpful to you but scottdk is truly just trying to help. He has been a very good contributor to this forum and has helped many people.

Good luck with the AC.

AC blows hot for about 30-45 seconds before cooling begins. I have only experienced this in the Genesis.
