  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Is the Hyundai Genesis a "hidden" gem?

I noticed many people still don't know much about this car. When they go looking for a big comfortable highway cruiser with a V6 or more, they think of cars like Toyota Avalon, Nissan Maxima, Honda Accord, Ford Fusion, etc.

Plus, I see the price of a new Mazda3, and it's around $20K, about the same price as my CPO Hyundai Genesis. I'd MUCH rather have the Genesis. More power, more comfort, safer, and still gets over 20 MPG in the city.

Do you consider the Genesis a "hidden" gem?

Are you a Genesis-owner for life now?

Genisis for life? Not likely. If someone were to ask me about my car, i'd say i love it, but there are still a lot of wrinkles to smooth out.

The electronics are not very reliable, and the audio system is pretty awful.

As a car, it works great and drives amazing! I love driving it! Stuff like the BSD is spotty, the back up camera flickers some, and Land Departure system is a bit aggressive. I haven't gotten use to the LDS yet so we'll see how that turns out.

I also can't get over how bad the audio system is. I'm thinking of taking it into the dealer and see if they can "improve" it some how.

There are a LOT of people who don't know what a Genesis is. And many of those who see one don't know it's a Hyundai. Yes, I think it's a hidden gem. The second generation made a lot of improvements and I'm sure it'll continue to improve as a first year luxury car always has a few quirks...

I think the "hidden" really shows when you take someone for a little rip in one that has a preconceived brand image in their head. The Coupe really was a hidden gem, in that I couldn't pump gas for the last 3 years without someone asking me what I was driving. I like the fact that the sedan is more nondescript, however.

I had the same experience with my coupe. Three years of people following me on the highway and asking about it on the streets and in gas stations on what seemed like a weekly basis. I knew when I sold that car that I will never own another car that gets that much attention even if I spent 3-4 times as much. Hyundai really hit the styling on that car out of the park, particularly the 2010-2012 cars (I never liked the Elantra front end they put on the 2013+ cars).

The sedan much like the coupe is a hidden gem. The used values are ridiculously low given what you're getting and the sedan in particular is a very comfortable, quiet, powerful and well optioned vehicle (especially with the tech package).

I'm assuming this is the base sound system? The Lexicon in my car is the best OEM system I've ever heard. Enough so that while I have torn out the factory stereo out of my last four cars I'm not even going to bother changing out the Lexicon setup. While the factory sub isn't as punchy as a good aftermarket setup (but still strong for an OEM system) the sound reproduction, staging and clarity are pretty top notch.

From what I've learned so far, the 15s are seeing issues with their Lexicon setup not being up to the previous gen's quality.

^ He is talking about the second generation which seems to have been nurfed with the sound system

Ahh, that makes sense. I've heard similar things from 2015 owners with regard to even the top end Lexicon system. The 2009-2014 cars appear to have a much higher quality setup.

The Genesis is the perfect car for me. I only put on 5000-6000 miles a year, paid extra so everything will be covered for 10 years, with zero deductible. I'll probably have the car for the next 15 years, unless I wreck it.

Hyundai had an outstanding evolution starting w/ the 5 years warranty.
Followed by beautiful cars in a diversified line up.
The Genesis is the beginning of an effort parallel to what happened with the three big Japanese a couple of decades ago.
An outstanding and VERY price attractive G1 followed by a clearly improved an polished G2. (showing momentum and direction)

Not a Lexus 460 or an MB 350-550

But a serious contender aiming higher and higher.

Lots of technology and a competitive price "protected" by the 5 year very extendable warranty.

In summary: It is a gem. I think my G1 is a great car and plan move to G2 soon. (at the end of lease)

I definitely think the Sedans and Coupes are hidden gems. Mine is badged, so I get questions all the time about "who makes that?", and the like, and I get lots of questions at car shows and driving events from car guys. When I see other Genesis cars, it's like a rare eye candy treat among all the minivans and econoboxes. We're all in the Genesis Club, "brand ambassadors" for HK to keep making these cars.
