If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I was wondering if there is an option to silence the seat belt alarm on the Genesis?

I could do this on other cars that I have owned. Mostly it was not a feature that was in the owners manual, but It was shared on forums like this.

As an example on my Lexus GS350 had an Undocumented feature to silence the seat belt buzzer. Maint guys used this when troubleshooting the car:

Instructions to turn off Seat Belt Alarm

"b-off" indicates that the buzzer is OFF. "b-on" indicates that the buzzer is ON.

(A) Driver and front passenger side seat belt buzzers.

(01) Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
(02) Press the ODO/TRIP switch until the odometer displays "ODO".
(03) Turn the ignition switch off.
(04) Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
(05) Press the ODO/TRIP switch immediately (within 6 seconds) and hold it down for 10 seconds or more.
(06) Continue holding down the ODO/TRIP switch and fasten the driver side seat belt.
(07) Check that the odometer displays either "b-on" or "b-oFF".
(08) Press the ODO/TRIP switch to change the display to "b-oFF".
(09) Turn the ignition switch off.
(10) Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
(11) Check that no buzzer sounds.

In the Genesis it is very easy to silence the seat belt alarm. Buckle-up! It is probably the law where you are too.

1 - (the obvoius) put on your seat belt
2 - get a seat belt extender...
3 - Find a wrecked Genesis and cut the sseate belt connector out... and plug in to your seat belt, where the actual seat belt would normally go.

I ALWAYS buckle-up!....... But, I do take off my seatbelt rolling up to my mailbox to get my mail and I don't need for my car or YOU to keep telling me to buckle up.

Nice trick if it works and disable that sound permanently.

I'm out of state and won't be able to check it out until Sunday.

Understand, that I posted the procedure for the 3rd Generation LEXUS GS --- NOT the Genesis. It was just an example of how other Manufacturers have built this into their cars.

Gotcha! missed that part - for lexus

pretty sure you can unplug the harness below the seat, this has worked for all of my other cars.

there is a way. i found this website. i think its korean website, not sure. but i been there looking for some mods. they sell the metal part of the seatbelt that clicks onto the locking mechanism and they come in different designs and what not. ill look around and give you the website when i am able to find it again. http://www.kspec.com/list.php?ac_id=91&ai_id=4108

If the OP is looking to disable the chime due to a temporary unlatching (like getting the mail), a device that tricks the car into thinking it's latched isn't going to fly because then he would never be able to latch his seatbelt.

I think that extender would be the best.

Not sure about the size yet, since I don't have an access to my car, but probably 7/8" should fit right in.

Congrats on your new car.

Now you mention it, I remembered that I did not hear that Chime when I was at the ATM earlier, so rechecked on my new 2013 R-Spec and unlike my other 2009 4.6 Geni, both the seatbelt light and the chime do not seem to activate untill I reach 5 mph.

I tried in park, R, N and D, even if I unbuckle, as long as I am under 5mph I do not hear the chime.

I can share my car settings to determine if yours can be made to behave the same way?

Edit:
auto door lock: Vehicle speed
Unlock: shift lever
Everything else is checked.

I believe that there was a story circulated on my MBZ list about a BMW owner who got sick of the seatbelt alarm, boasted about going to a junk yard and cut off a buckle, and stuck it in the receiver thus silencing the alarm forever. He then proceeded to get in a WRECK and was EJECTED and DIED. So don't do that!
I know that the OP was not intending to do that.
I think seat belts are a cop-out in that auto mfg should be able to make safe cars without us having to strap in like space shuttle astronauts everytime we want to go for a drive.

The laws of physics apply to the occupants of the vehicle, so the "safest" vehicle doesn't really apply if you're not properly protected/restrained. Take any race car or rally car and they are strapped in 10 times tighter than a passenger vehicle. Without wearing safety restraints, a roll cage won't matter if you're getting tossed around like a salad in the car.

Amen Scott. OP might want to pull out the high school physics book and look up the definition of "kinetic energy"
Crumple zones help too but won't stop a body traveling at 55mph.
Unless your car was made of marshmallows an airbag/seat belt is the only thing to stop you from hurtling through the windshield.

Cops in our area often tell the public that they rarely unbuckle a dead person from a seatbelt.

OP already stated:

And I have similar situation when I go to my terminal - driving around, doing ~15mph I don't really need to buckle up.
