  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

for some years i have been an owner of a vw phaeton and a member of the vw phaeton discussion section of the vw sponsored web site. in the past few days i have posted two questions about the equus on this forum. a number of "views", but not a single reply. on the phaeton forum, for a car sold in north america for only 3 years (and rather unsuccessfully at that) if a forum member posted like messages there would be numerous replies. frankly, one has to wonder what is going on with equus owners.

Well, I am here, but saw no questions?

I agree. Used to also own a phaeton (and miss it dearly). Likely because VW has more of a established online following on Vortex - especially in Europe, that's my take at least. Also, the Equus is rather new by comparison. There seems to be allot more traffic in the Genesis forum however, but more production numbers too. Miss my phaeton, but it was beginning to create more problems for me than it was worth, and the technology was beginning to become antiquated, thus my jump to a Equus Ultimate. Personally, I would rather have a new phaeton if I had the choice between the two, but regrettably, only the lucky few in Europe have that option and I can't go back to a decade old car...too many electronic and mechanical quirks, in addition to the replacement parts being ridiculously expensive and you have to wait months to receive them! I was also growing tired of the local VW dealerships lack of attention on the customer service side, in addition to their lack of knowledge on the cars. Thus far the Hyundai parts and service have proved to be a fraction of the cost and headache versus the Audi / VW parts and service. Go figure, but overall worth the swap.

We are here. Just spending our time enjoying the Equus than posting online.

I would love to comment on posts about the Equus but can't be that helpful since one unfortunately doesn't sit in my garage. Hopefully one will be there in the near furture.

This is a relatively quiet site with a small number of active members, and nearly all of those are Genesis Sedan owners who show little interest in the Coupe or other Hyundai and Kia cars, as they have other forums for their enthusiasts. After all, my car says "GENESIS" on it, too, but I've learned this is just overwhelmingly a Genesis Sedan forum. However, the spam, junk talk, and noise found elsewhere is very minimal here, and there is usually no "kabal" of enforced insider opinions, so discussion is often better, if slower.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
Equus owners are going to be hard to come by because there are so few compared to the Genesis coupe and sedan. I really do wish there were more GC owners here. They're part of the "Genesis family" as well...

i refuse to let my 04 phaeton go. yes, the problems were expensive (mainly the suspension failure-of course not a design problem even though he struts were redesigned necessitating the replacement of all 4 when only one failed, at least vw paid for the other 3). i am considering replacing my 05 A8 with an equus, at least a 2014 due to the updates that year. the phaeton remains, but no longer a daily driver.

That's why I eventually got rid of my phaeton...too over engineered for 10 years ago technology and Audi/VW rapes you on the parts and labor. I was in the shop every 2 weeks for about a year the last year and I quit. The Equus was however about the closest I could find in terms of amenities within a reasonable price range...just wish they still sold phaetons in the U.S.

I do believe a new Volkswagen Phaeton in coming to the U.S. very soon. However, so is a new Hyundai Equus...

those on the phaeton forum have doubts about the phaeton's return to north america. Ferdinand Piech, the driving force behind phaeton, has resigned from the vw board. it also appears phaeton sales worldwide, save for china a bit, are not great. also, vw north american market progress is not what was expected, this is what they say led to piech' departure. i expect, as most do, an all wheel drive equus, which is what the car should have had (imho) from the beginning of sales here.

I think it would be very odd for there to be no AWD Equus here within the next few years. It's sad to hear the Volkswagen Phaeton might not make it to North America. I like that car...

Honestly, we will never see another phaeton in the U.S., 99.99% certain of that. The speculators have been saying for years on the vortex site that a new one would be coming...I will not hold my breathe and even if it would come, it will likely be watered way down IMO. The Equus is a good alternative none the less.
