  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hi:
I ordered an OEM airbag with the winged emblem on it from Korea. It seemed like an easy switch. but I don't want to do anything myself that would void the warranty so I called Roseville Hyundai Service (california) and they said they won't do it.
Is this unusual? I thought other dealers reportedly have done it before with no problem.
should I just do it myself?

Since the part in question is not an official part for the North American Genesis, I could see why they don't want to install it, considering they could be liable if for some reason it did not work correctly in a accident. But each dealer is an independent entity, and you may be able to find one who will do it.

Regarding warranty, a non-warranty part on one part of the car (such as air-bag system) has no effect on the warranty for an unrelated part of the car (such as the engine) per federal laws in the US. But if you use a part not on your original car, and not sold by HMA, then HMA will not warrant it, regardless of who installs it.

My dealer swapped mine out with no problem - charged $29.00 shop time

Did mine myself in about 20 minutes. Try it.

it's extremely easy, just go to the thread and follow the directions shouldn't be an issue. just make sure the locking clips are all the way in. the connectors pop on but you still have to lock them by pushing the clip locks down. Cake.

i did it then the dealer did it because i like a jack ass didn't puch the clip lock down on one of the connectors and couldn't get the airbag light to go off lol. Delaer pulled the bag and then re-installed it after finding that screwup. charged me nothing, just a quick chat with the service mgr. they seemed hesitant to install one cold but had no problem "diagnosing/fixing" mine.

IIRC (it's been a while) you need a Torx driver to change the bag. If you happen to have one, then you're good to go, but if not, given the choice between $29 to the dealer to make the change vs. buying a tool I'll never use again, I chose the dealer.

I just used a Large flat-head screw driver instead of the Torx driver. I didn't have the tool at the time ( I do now though), and it worked just fine without damaging anything.

Use a Torx if you have one.......

I just ordered the KDM steering wheel.
Can you send me a link to the installation process.
Thanks.

There are several threads in this forum, with pics. Try using forum search, or Google.

Even if it is is sold by the manufacture they still will not warranty it as it did not come stock with the car when you bought it. I installed factory CC on my wifes Mazda 3, bought the parts straight from Mazdas parts department counter and installed them myself and then had to have the CC activated by the dealer. They activated it, and it works flawlessly but they will not warranty it even though it is their equipment. I guess that goes for all manufactures.

I guess I don't quite understand. The new car warranty is offered by Hyundai Motor America (HMA), and not Hyundai Motor in Korea as most people assume. If you import your own Hyundai directly from Korea to the US, you are SOL when it comes to warranty work. Some manufacturers outside the US have a special case under their European Delivery Program, but that only applies to vehicles purchased under that program.

The KDM airbag is not a part supplied by HMA on vehicles sold in the US, and the part is not sold by them to dealers, so there is no way they will offer a parts warranty on them. If you can take it back to Korea where it was purchased, that might be a different story.

Hyundai will provide a warranty on parts/accessories sold by HMA to dealers and then sold to customers, and that applies in many cases even when customer installs it. But an airbag or cruise control is not a customer installed type of accessory or part.
