  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Issues/problems with the G70

There are complaints about the Kia Stinger having paint problems. Specially, paint chips and peeling.

Anyone noticing any paint problems on their G70?

Yeah, probably unrelated. But it isn't factory-specific or model-specific, which suggests that supplied parts, which are common across Kia and Hyundai in some cases, could be at issue. If Kia/Hyundai source parts for the Genesis from the same supplier, there might be some relevance to the G70 but we certainly don't know that to be the case. And it seems pretty likely that Korea-built models would use different suppliers than US-built models. And the problem was apparently only evident on 2011 to 2014 models. And if the issue has arisen 349 times, as the article indicates, I suspect that Kia/Hyundai would have looked into it by now.

It's something worth being aware of but seems only tangentially relevant to the G70, at best.
The article said it was related to 2 Hyundai models and 2 Kia models. The Hyundai Sonata and Kia Optima sedans (which share some components), and the Hyundai Santa Fe and Kia Sorento SUV's ( which also share parts). They were all made either in the West Point, Georgia or Montgomery, Alabama assembly plants. It could be parts, or it could be a design/installation problem of the wiring harness which allowed the wires to short out over time, and cause fires.

If I am reading this correctly, I should have about 4 years before I have to worry about fires...

I can live with that lol

Despite the mechanical similarities this is one area I would not expect potential issues to carry over. The Stinger is built in a Kia's Sohari plant, the G70 is built in Hyundai Ulsan plant 5 on the same line as the G80 and G90, using the same paint and processes. There are no known paint issues with the other Genesis models so there's no reason to expect any here.

My door got blasted by some jerks door and left a very sharp deep dent, had it repaired without needing repainting so that bodes well i guess

Looks like someone else has had the headliner noise issue and, apparently, it's a known problem in Korea. Let's hope they sort it out sooner rather than later.

I tried reading that thread but I still don't understand what's the problem with the headliner. Could someone post a video perhaps?

On another note, I found that I need to more force to close the driver door, like the door doesn't latch (or unlatch easily?) Wondering if anyone has the same issue.

Oh and my android auto doesn't work, I am using the essential phone. Car play is fine.

.

Does not really matter is others have the same issue, you do. Probably a simple adjustment that can be done when it is in for service if you can wait that long.

Another essential phone user here and my android auto doesn't work either. I am going hard at it with essential support, but I am pretty sure its a waste of time. I will let you know if I get it going.

So the sound is coming out from 2 main areas, one is the clips ( there are 4 I think) that's broken and not holding the frame and headliner (or sunroof) properly which makes cracking sound and the other one is from the overhead console that's not glued properly making sqeuaky sound (really annoying on highways). I know I'm really unlucky but I'm more mad at how Genesis treats me. I have to talk to hyundai mangers and they really don't care about you. I hope this doesn't happen to anyone else. It's making more problems than my previous car. I'll try to film the video and post it here.

I actually just downloaded android auto and tried it for the first time about a week ago. Mine works perfectly on a Blackberry android phone. I am actually really impressed how well it works and how easy it is to switch between the android maps/music and the factory maps/music. Very quick and easy. It is also nice being able to just say "ok google" to do something without actually having to push any buttons. I do think the home screen could look a bit better though.

No idea why it wouldn't work, do you have android 5.0 or higher?

LOL. I use a BlackBerry Android phone also.

Hey gang, can a canadian owner of a 3.3 sport let me know if they have any power seat controls on the left side of the passenger seat accesable by the driver ? I do not but have seen it in the reviews of the US version

Thanks

I have the 3.3 Sport. No seat adjustment buttons in that location on my car. I did see them described in some reviews but no joy.

Canadian G70s don't have those buttons. The only Genesis in Canada that has those buttons is the G90.

Yes! My 2018 G90 Ultimate has had 4 instances of bubbling paint which then chips. Affected a rim, the grill, a door and now the roof. Dealer replaced grill, but on the rim and door just touched it up. I'm now at the point where Hyundai needs to do something more. This time the rood blemish did not peel off so they can't blame it on damage from a projectile object. Pretty shoddy for a $75,000 luxury sedan! This doesn't look like competition for the other luxury sedans especially if Hyundai doesn't own up to it. Otherwise, I like the car and it would be a true bargain.

They are talking about the G70 not the 2018 G90. Issues/problems with the G70 :hillarious:

Just had these three error messages come up. Odd.

Could be a weak battery or faulty alternator. In short drives in very cold weather, (especially with the heated seats and steering wheel on) the draw exceeds the electrical system's ability to power it. I went through a similar issue with my wife's car and it turned out to be a bad alternator that was replaced under warranty. I called it "disco dash" mode.
