  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Issues/problems with the G70

Well, sorry I haven't posted an update till now. I'm still waiting on the new headliner to come in. Was told around the 23rd of this month. I guess my cream headliner is harder to source than originally planned. I'm seriously looking into no-lemon action if this doesn't work. Going on three months now for this one problem. Such a small thing but is driving me nuts!

So the sound is coming out from 2 main areas, one is the clips ( there are 4 I think) that's broken and not holding the frame and headliner (or sunroof) properly which makes cracking sound and the other one is from the overhead console that's not glued properly making sqeuaky sound (really annoying on highways). I know I'm really unlucky but I'm more mad at how Genesis treats me. I have to talk to hyundai mangers and they really don't care about you. I hope this doesn't happen to anyone else. It's making more problems than my previous car. I'll try to film the video and post it here.
I'm also having a problem that can not be solved by the dealer with my Genesis G70 2018 model, it's been
in and out for maintenance more
than four times and they still can not resolve it. The problem started with the cruise control suddenly disconnected when I was driving on the highway and then the steering wheel became heavy and the power steering warning light came on along with the engine warning light. I took it to the dealer for maintenance more than four times and they can not resolve it.

Dang... I'm sorry to hear that. Did they tell you what they think is wrong? What have they replaced so far?

I guess my questions above are pointless, as the dealer should have resolved it by now! 4 times for something dangerous like that is completely unacceptable.

I have a G70 2020 3.3 sport.
My trunk lock button does absolutely nothing.
First time i called my rep, he said it only works when you open your trunk and it unlocks your doors, itll relock the doors.
Tested and no matter how i open my trunk (button, 3 second sensor, keyfob) it never unlocks my doors.
Tested the trunk lock button in every way possible, and it never locks my doors. i held it few seconds, pressed normally, cant get it to work.
Called my rep back, he said genesis is looking into this and he will call me back when they have news.
I have a small feeling he is sweeping this issue under the rug and hoping i wont bother following up.

can anyone tell me if their lock button works as designed? from what i understand... as long as no doors are open and the keyfob is NOT in the cabin, lock on the trunk will lock the doors, then you can use the auto close trunk and walk away from car.

No idea what you are talking about. The trunk button opens the trunk...that is it.

Have you even opened your user manual?

He has the 2020. Should have a power trunk

So he’s in Canada.

Regardless...that button just closes the trunk. If there is a lock button...it would be separate button (like most other cars).

Can any Canadians confirm?

So if he’s talking about a separate lock button...RTFM :)

Yea...if this is about a door lock button being available from the trunk....I cant believe the dealership didnt correct @sstphoenix
right away. Seems like some of these dealerships dont RTFM either :p

That is such a niche feature that I would never have thought of wanting it, but interesting nonetheless. Many people here have had issues with reps being a bit uninformed on features. I would look to do some tinkering in the vehicle menus (on both screens) and maybe that will help.

You'll also want to make sure you follow all the nuances of the rules for the system to work properly. Aka don't have a smart key in the car or have a door open. I know I had my spare key in the trunk for a few days after I got my car 🤦‍♂️

Wonder if this is the one in the glovebox? Still your advice is right on

Believe me. I RTFM and searched the internet and youtube (genesis vids) and used my imagination as to what could be wrong. I searched the 9" console options... I wasn't aware the dash might have other options as OMG70 suggested... ill have to check that out.

In montreal canada, we dont have traditional dealerships for genesis. So I cant just show up to a dealership, ask them to open the trunk and test it myself. So to escalate to genesis I'd have to have another 2020 to compare with that has this feature working. Hopefully someone here on the forums with a 2020 will read this and let me know. Otherwise ill give them 1 month max before changing tone and calling BS on them "looking into it".

In the Volvos and Mazdas I've owned with power lift gates you push that button, and then when the power gate closes it'll lock the doors. It doesn't lock the doors first.

Actually, this is indeed a known issue. It affects every 20MY G70 shipped for the first few months. There's a software fix rolling out in the next few weeks that resolves the issue and restores the functionality. The "LOCK" button on the lid is supposed to close the trunk and lock all doors with one push. In the first few months of production, the cars with the power trunk lid were missing this programming. Thankfully it was caught quickly and a fix was developed at the factory.

He's much higher than that!
He's the Mac Daddy of Genesis!

*Genesis of Canada.

Too bad Genesis of USA doesn't have guys that cool and helpful that like to participate in this forum! Well, except for @r_spec !!

Could be a weak battery or faulty alternator. In short drives in very cold weather, (especially with the heated seats and steering wheel on) the draw exceeds the electrical system's ability to power it. I went through a similar issue with my wife's car and it turned out to be a bad alternator that was replaced under warranty. I called it "disco dash" mode.

Some of us call that "Volkswagen Dash"
