  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

it happened again. Audio system went on vacation

I agree with you about notifying Hyundai-clearly there is an issue. As i mentioned in my first post, the service guy was going to order me a new antenna. I suppose i should go ahead and have it installed and then if i have the trouble again then perhaps we'll get their attention that it is not the antenna....but maybe it is. So far, since yesterday, it has performed flawlessly. I do think the reboot trick mentioned by an earlier post is something to consider trying should it quite again.

If I were you I would not let them replace the antenna. There is no guarantee that replacing the antenna is going to solve the problem as in some cases it has not. Replacing the antenna means pulling out the head liner in your car which would be the last thing I would want done. I would wait as I am waiting until Hyundai has a sure fix. As long as my sound system works I will not let them do anything until they have a sure fix, unless it stops working all together.

Im with MHT about removing the headliner...I had a satelite radio installed on my Tundra truck as an option when new and I am convincend the reason that the liner doesn't fit tightly these days is because of the removal by Toyota dealer to hide the satelite cable. I noticed the loose fit when cleaning the truck. It wasn't something you wouild have normally seen. Of course the truck is out of warranty.

Excellent point about the liner. No new antenna and will keep my fingers crossed the audio grimlen does not return.

I've got the 2011 4.6 and I haven't had the no_sound_antenna_error issue, but I have had the XM stop working where the only channel that I could get was the demo channel on 0. While driving I have held the left stereo button in until it powers down (Navi Screen and all) then press it again to power back up. It seems to re-boot the system like a PC. Try this the next time you have no sound and see if it works.

Did your XM work better after the left stereo button "reset"? I'm having XM do the same thing; yet the rest of my audio works fine. Neither XM or my dealership has a clue.

Yes. The "reboot" works every time for me. The XM issue doesn't happen that often, but it seems to happen switching from the CD to XM. The last XM channel that you had on will still play, but if you use the voice commands to change the channel, Genny will repeat your request, but the channel will not change. If you use the knob the channel will instantly display 0 (the demo channel) and the system acts like there are no other channels. Hold in the left knob (volume) until the system powers down, then press it again until the system restarts. XM will come back and work perfectly.

Fro those with XM going stupid... when turning the DIS knob leads to XM channel "0" being the only one available, what happens if you use the steering wheel memory up/down control? Even my XM momentarily acts up, the memory channels work normally. I just can't manually tune any channel other than zero.

When this happens on my car (early 2009 V8/Tech with the original amp module) I noticed the station categories & category filters are blank - nothing listed. It's like my XM receiver has never "seen" the XM satellites and data. It hadn't happened for quite some time (though I don't drive the Genesis daily) and then in the last two weeks it's happened twice. After a few minutes, it seems to recover on its own - I haven't powered down or switched to some other audio source. I just continued to listen to the stations I had in my presets/memory. I do have to manually re-select the channel categories though but at least the category list is no longer empty.

Anybody else's symptoms similar? And have the last two weeks been especially bad? If so, it may not be a failed part on your (or my) Genesis; it could be a glitch in XM's transmissions or a all-Genesis-wide software/hardware (design flaw) issue.

Next time it happens on my car, I'll try using the steering wheel button. I normally use the round on/off/volume control on the front of the head unit. The round control doesn't seem to help the XM recover... just leaving the unit ON for a while (10 minutes or so) has been enough to "fix" it the last two weeks. I'll try the steering wheel control to see if that is an instant XM fix.

Sorry if I have confused anyone. The reset that I am talking about is holding in the volume/power button on the head unit (under the DVD slot). This had fixed any issues that I have had with the audio or nav.

This is just my opinion....

This seems like just more of the same stuff that's been happening since the Genesis debut in 2009. There are several long threads about this problem. Print out some of the threads and then go to the dealership armed with evidence that your car is not some isolated fluke and make them call Hyundai for the fix.

2009 4.6 - AUDIO SYSTEM Pain in the you know what!
Here in So. Cal yesterday it was 105 (in the shade). My audio system was perfect when I left the house - drove to lunch (still fine) and then heading back to the office - CHECK ANTENNA and NO SOUND from ANY SOURCE - turned the car off, on, off, on, drove back to work. Five hours later, it's STILL 105 degrees outside and everything was perfect. I have been through three head unit changes, two amps, xm-module swaps, and I'm fed up. The dealer says to bring it in because there will likely be a CODE from the CHECK ANTENNA message (which of course is gone and everything's working). Do I waste my time to go to the dealer to have them tell me to "bring it in when it's happening." BS BS BS BS!!!!!!!

The only one able to truely alleviate this issue is much higher than the poor service dept. at the dealers. I am talking about the Hyundai software programmers for the car operating system as well as the Lexicon firmware. Start talking to those folks for any difinitive resolution. Google search to get their contact info. On another thread I listed 3 higher ups.

Thanks for the suggestion. This was my DREAM-MACHINE - and now it's just sliding down the slippery slope to - yeah, it's a pretty good car - but I've had electrical problems and had to have the transmission replaced at 36,000 miles... maybe I'll lease something else next time...

I got the Check Antenna error Message for the fourth time today. It was really frustrating because you not only loose the audio but the Navigation shuts down as well.
Everything comes back on line after the car is turned off for about 15 mins and started back up again. I have not had any success with the reboot that one of the posters has recommended.
This is the first time that I have really been upset over this because I was using the Navigation but I was able to manage ok with the compass. When everything is up and working I am just as happy as can be as the Lexicon Sound System is one of the best on the market and the Navigation has never failed to get me to where I was trying to go.
The one good thing about all of this is I did some more reading on the Navigation and tried out somethings that I had not tried before and all of the excitement of owning this car came right back. The dealer told me to bring the car in when the Audio is down again but that has been hard to do because I am not near the dealer when it happens or in this case the dealership was closed.
From what I have read it really looks like Hyundai does not have a handle on this as the problem is showing up in the 2012's. I hope Hyundai will soon have a fix for this issue because it can be a little annoying.
