  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Jim Reed Hyundai (Nashville TN) Experience

I have been searching for a 3.8 Auto White Genesis Coupe with Nav for several months now with no luck. Will cover that fiasco in another review. I decided to go to this dealer on a Saturday and see if I could get a better response from them and possibly put in a preference for my car. I was surprised to find out that this dealer said there were six already in the US and that they could trade for one. I would of course have to pay for the shipping which was completely understandable. The dealer located the car for me and everything was going smoothly. I presented them with my APP discount and they would honor that as well. We then get down to listing final prices and I misunderstood how the discount was calculated and questioned it. The salesman I was working with was new so had to check with the manager. Next thing I know there was this rude punk (Internet Sales Manager Van Hayes ) in my face “explaining” how it worked. I should have left then but I continued on. There was also an additional $700 fee above the $700 I was already going to pay for the shipping. When asked about this I was told $400 was for the dealer’s protection package that they include with every car they sell and $300 was for doc fees!! Told them I didn’t want the protection and I didn’t pay doc fees. They supposedly called Jim Reed himself and he would not sell the car without the Protection Package. Again I should have left but I really wanted this car and continued on. I agreed to buy the protection if they waived the doc fees. Well they didn’t want to budge so I ended up walking out with no deal. As for how rude the guy was… Later that night I received a call from the salesman apologizing for him and then after that Van himself called and apologized. This was my personal experience, your results may differ.

Hello all this seems to be a very nice forum for Genesis enthusiasts and owners alike. I am constantly here reading the consumer reviews and questions as I am a sales manager at a Hyundai dealership here in Nashville. I was suprised to come across this posting as it refers to my Dealer and more specifically a deal that I was involved with.

The person that posted this blog is forgetting a few minor details. He did leave upset that we had a total of $682 in total dealer fees on this deal. He did however forget to mention that he was attempting to purchase the vehicle through the Hyunda APP program which forces the dealer to sell the vehicle at 2% under invoice. The program is designed to help dealers sell vehicles from their current stock. This particular customer wanted us to find a vehicle that we did not have, and we did. He then specified that he wanted the vehicle trailered in from out of state which is quite costly. Which we agreed to do at our cost of $700.

So we agreed to sell a car we did not have for a pure loss to our store, and go get it for this customer at no profit. The dealer fees that we have on all vehicles that are sold are just that the dealer fees on each and every deal. It is a very emotional process when you come in to purchase a new or pre-owned vehicle but we try to take care of everyone's needs just as we did this customer.

The customer also wanted us to add another person to the deal that was a recent college graduate, who was not purchasing the car. This would have allowed him to get another $400 discount from Hyundai Motor Finance.

In ending we attempted to contact this customer to apologize for and correct any "rude" behavior he may have perceived. However he never answered the phone. We have not been in business for over 90 years and owned by the same family because we treat people badly.

Thank you again for all of your interest in the Hyundai Genesis it is really a great looking and performance driven car!

Thanks Michael,

Everyone knows that there is always another side to any story. Thanks for presenting your side.

This has nothing to do with your dealings between the two of you.

I always make sure that I never have a dealer get a car from another dealer. I must see and drive the car I am buying before I put down my money. If I can't find the car I want myself, both by visiting various dealers, or even by searching on the internet dealer inventories, I just will not buy the car. I don't blame dealers for not telling a customer just where they found the car the customer wants. After all, the dealer is in business to sell cars, not to send people to other dealers, and I understand that. In the past, I've been burned by ordering cars (dealer orders from the factory for me) and once, in a dealer trade. Never again. If I can't buy from stock, I will just wait until I find the car I want myself.

The customer also wanted us to add another person to the deal that was a recent college graduate, who was not purchasing the car. This would have allowed him to get another $400 discount from Hyundai Motor Finance.

I will let the original post speak for itself but I would like to address this one item which I did leave out. I left this out as we did not make it to a final agreed price so I thought it irrelevant. However I did request financing to be in two names in order to use this discount but the car was to be purchased under both names as well. This detail I'm sure would have been cleared up between us without issue.
