  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
    If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

OK, I made a down payment on a 2011 4.6 Genesis and will be picking it up this Wednesday (March 16th).

I will say I test drove the BMW 3 and 5 series, Mercedes C and E Class, and the Cadillac CTS.

The Genesis smoked the BMW 3, Mercedes C, and CTS and it is comparable in quality to the 5 series BMW or E Class (but costs less). I'm sold!

So now, my question is: Any last minute add-ons that I should push for before I sign to take the car?

-I've already asked for (and received) the protective trunk mat and Ipod Cable

Also, any tech-related issues that I should have explained to me? I've been reading the forums and I'm knowledgeable about the technology, but "I don't know what I don't know".... Thanks!

Although I have not tried the Dunlops yet, many don't like them. If the car comes with them, see if you can get them changed before pickup.

Totally agree, get Continental Contact DW or DWS, Michelin MXM4 or Bridgestone Turanza Serenity. The oem Dunlops don't let the car be all that it can be. Read the threads here in this forum that are related to tires, and you will know what we mean.

I have a different opinion of the Dunlops:
I think they're excellent tires that mate well with the sporty nature of the Gen in normal conditions, especially on the highway at speed. If most of your driving is suburban, or if you live in the snow belt then I'd likely agree with the posts above.
As to your questions:
1. Ask if loaners are standard for all service downtime, including oil changes.
2. Free, anytime car washes?
Those are both negotiable items if they're not already included.

At PDI:
1. Go over interior and exterior with a fine tooth comb.
2. Bring a tire gauge and make sure you're at 33psi all the way around. Dealers tend to over-inflate and the ride won't be "right".
3. Do you have a music DVD (concert ) or better, a DVD-A? Bring it with you for the ride home, and before you pull out of the dealer go to settings, engage surround, and fade 2 or 3 to the rears. Enjoy your concert hall on wheels!

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
Congrats on the new car. I looked at most of those others and also chose the Genesis. You might ask for splash guards. they don't look bad and do keep the lower body cleaner. I have no problem with the Dunlops. Never tried them in snow or even very wet conditions but for my use they are OK. Smooth riding, fairly quiet and they hold air, that's about all I expect from a OEM tire. I will upgrade but not until these are worn out . GAR

And without the "deep snow" rating they'd have been middle of the pack. Notice the average to high marks otherwise?

I think I mentioned "snow belt" above.

If you click on the various columns in the tire rack survey data it will rank the tires in that column. The Dunlop sport 5000 M is 20th to 27th in every case. Dead last in wet traction and dead last in hydroplaning resistance.

Its just not a very good tire.

Try to get the dealer to put on a better tire.

Go for the full rebadge. I negotiated a 3x per year for 5 years full syn oil change in the contract. Heard some guys get a lifetime powertrain warranty in their contract. The sky is basically the limit on what you ask for. All they can say is no. Try to get the trunk rubber liner as well.

Good luck and enjoy your new ride, I sure do....

Thanks for all the input. You guys have shared some helpful advice.

I'm going to see what kind of maintenance I can get added, but I think my options for valuable add-ons like rebadging, tires, etc. are running low....

I'm getting the car for $37,828 (including TTL), and I know this is below invoice. This includes a $1500 loyalty rebate. Decent deal?

I'd personally wait for a lifted 2012 version if you could.

Aside from that, every suggestion here is great. You got a good price.

Some of the things included in my deal years ago:
* rear cargo mat
* iPod cable
* wheel locks
* trunk lid rebadge

Some things you may be able to squeeze out of a dealer:
* free scheduled maintenance, or at least oil changes. Though the dealer may use low quality/cheap oil - find out what brand they use.
* extended XM/NavTraffic subscriptions
* all-weather floor mats to supplement the factory carpet mats

Less likely:
* Tire swap as others suggested
* extended warranty/service plans - as long as they're Hyundai provided. 3rd party ones often aren't worth the paper they're printed on.

Bring your cell phone with you and make sure it pairs with the car before you take delivery; or at least check Hyundai's web site for cell phone compatibility. If the web site says your phone IS compatible (make a printout and bring it with you to the dealer!) and you and the dealer have trouble getting it to work - i.e. you waste a bunch of time trying to get it to work - that could be worth "compensation" of some sort from the dealer. Dealers should know how to pair a Bluetooth phone to the Genesis but most won't...

If you have an iPad, test it on the car too. The Hyundai iPod cables sometimes are flaky - make sure you get a good one. Often it's touchy where it plugs into the car.

I'll repeat what I said elsewhere. After driving my 2010 4.6 with Dunlops on ice and snow, my conclusion is that the Dunlops are downright dangerous--and I've got 45 years of snow and ice driving experience. But I'm keeping 'em for summer since the "S" layer on the Contis I've ordered won't last anywhere near the life of that tire, and the Contis will go on for November-April.

I have driven on many tire companies, and I would say also that the Dunlop's are the worst tires that I have had.
I have 19,000 miles and they are done. Have less than 1/4" left on threads.
I just went on my 1st long road trip with the car and the road noise with these tires were the worst.
I will definitely not buy Dunlop.
Period...

I still love the car.
I also have the splash guards(painted to match)
Ipod cable
Wheel locks
Mat and net in the trunk
Wood Grain Kit

The dealer paired my phone with the Genesis when I signed the buyer's order on Saturday, and someone will be spending about 45-60 minutes setting up presets, navigation settings, and anything else tech-related.

Anything in particular I should have them setup for me? They won't sync my phone contacts (I tried).

I will ask about the extended XM/Traffic because that seems like something that would be a reasonable last-minute addition. I've got the ipod cable and protective trunk lid already, so wheel locks are another good last-minute item.

Thanks again for the contributions, and I'm always open to more.

Loading contacts into the Genesis is easy. Recheck tires for air pressure of 33 to 35. BTW mp3 music on a USB works great, USB plug is in the console.

For my money the XM traffic is worthless. In my experience you learn of problems ahead well after you're already stuck in the jam.

Here in Marlton, NJ you may epect this to be standard: a Genesis loaner for any reason, (or you may wait in our exclusive Genesis Sedan/Equus lounge) your vehicle will be washed and vaccuumed, the fuel tank topped off and a gift left on the passanger seat after exceptional service. We aim to exceed your expectations. Please try us on.

P.S. I'm just a QA person impressed with my employers philosophy....

Thanks for the suggestions and help.

I picked the car up last night, and everything went smooth. I paid an extra $1300 to extend bumper-to-bumper coverage (including all tech features) to 10 years. Maybe I was a sucker, but all the computers and equipment in that car will get expensive.

Followup Question:

How do I import my phone's contacts? I tried to download phonebook but it would not locate it. If I connect my phone via USB will this allow it to import contacts?
