  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hello all. I just got 20' chrome wheels, staggered. 275 35 front, 245 30 rear. The front looks ok but the rear is showing way too much clearance and not enough rubber. I am unsure if I should lower the car by at least an inch or go for different tires. The shop says to lower it but I am going for an elegant, european sleek look vs. overly flashy or tricked out.

Anybody been through this and or have any thoughts? Greatly appreciated.

1. Try the 275/35's on the rear and the 245/30's on the front. That will remove a lot of the clearance.

2. Why not just keep the same size tires front and rear?

3. I would not lower the car. Too much involved. Not as easy as it sounds.

4. You do understand that with the stock 18 inch wheels and tires, the car already has a very hard ride, and now with you changing out to 20 inch wheels, and 35 or 30 series tires, the ride will now be even HARDER.

5. You also understand that your speedometer may or may not be off, compared to stock. One easy way to check it with the tires you already have on there, is to compare the speedo to your GPS speed. If you keep the two different series tires, check again if you switch back to front.

That was going to be my suggestion. Make sure the 275's are on the wider wheels. I don't understand why these tire sizes were switched. But your wider wheels should always be on the back.

He has a staggered fitment, which means his front and rear wheels are different widths.

It's actually not that bad. The rear is an independent suspension, which means the coils and shocks are separate. You'll just switch out the springs in the rear. The front really isn't that bad either - but the top part is a bit unusual. Still not difficult. At least on the 2010 models since all I've had the opportunity to look at are mine.

That's the mechanics of it. I hope that he or at least the shop would know or have mentioned it.

I have an app on my iPhone called Tire calculator. I enter my old size and my new size. It'll calculate my actual speed when it'll read 60mph on the gauge. If the overall diameter of the wheel/tire combo is the same, then it'll be fine. I plan on adding 22's on mine, and from my calculations, it will have the exact same height as the factory, so I'll show no speedo change.
