Just Received My Megan Coilovers

Hey Everyone,

After what seems an eternity of going back and forth with various manufacturers to get coilovers for the Genesis, I finally received my new set of Megan coilovers from XLevel. I just wanted to post some info and pics as I know that some people have been skeptical about coilovers being available and I myself know as well as anyone that it has been a trying and confusing process to try and figure out what's real and what is not.

Anyway, I am posting a few photos here of the coilovers so that people can actually see them. The quality seems really nice especially compared to my current ARK coilovers that I have on my car now. These are solid, nice looking and well built. I especially like the ease of the control knobs to adjust the dampening. I don't know yet how accessible they will be once installed but I imagine that Megan placed them strategically to allow for access.

I haven't unpacked the rear spring assemblies so there's no pictures of them here but you get the idea.

Looking forward to getting these installed after being in need of new coilovers for quite some time now.

Hey Vince2, No, they aren't cut. The way adjustable coilovers work is that they allow full spring and damper travel while providing adjustable mounts to lower the height of car independently of the spring height.

Below is a pic of the rear spring and collar assembly.

Also, for those who may not know, only the fronts are a true coilover. The rears struts and springs on the Genesis are mounted separately. But they are still height adjustable by positioning the collars on both the rear strut and spring mounts.

I'm running Megan SS's for the past 15k miles on my '10 Accord Coupe... very happy w/ them thus far, I did combo them w/ a 3-pc SPC camber kit to dial in the rear to -2 degrees of camber. My Megan's were of the normal coilover variety, front and rear, all in one cylinder design... the dampening it dialed in at the top hat section with knobs-- just like what you see on the front of your box.

I had KW's on my previous E39 M5... so that's my basis for comparison.

Thanks for the info jastylr. If appearance is any indication they appear to be excellent pieces...but I bet the ARK units "looked" very good pryor to your use but we know how that turned out.

FYI, the Megan Racing coilovers do come with a 1 year warranty.

Hey guys, the coilovers will be installed on Tuesday so I will update the post then. I'm hoping that everything goes smoothly and that I don't find out that I have any other problems. I do know that I happen to have a destroyed spring insulator pad on one of the rear springs. It's the rubber bushing that sits on top of the spring and is an OEM part that gets reused. I purchased 2 new ones so that when I ever got the new coilovers, I would be ready to go. Hopefully no other bushings are shot.

Good point but these seem like a better quality with more attention to detail than my ARKs. Sure, when I first got them they appeared nice especially when comparing them to the OEM struts. My ARKs also just reused the OEM upper mounts and the Megan's have nice alloy mounts. Either way, anything is going to be better than what I have at the moment.

If they are still within the warranty, Megan Racing will take care of it. FYI, I've never had anyone need to use the warranty and I have been selling them for years. Buy with confidence. I don't sell anything I wouldn't install on my own car.

I was asking more as a reference due to the fact I drive 60-70K a year... Not so much as a warranty issue, but more as a general parts will wear over general usage and needs rebuilt to maintain that "new" feel. For reference I picked up my R-spec in Feb and I'm rolling over 16K right now...

Megan Racing doesn't offer rebuild and revalve services. Feal Suspension does rebuild and revalving for $400-600 depending on what you'd like done. Because it is due to wear and no defect in the product, we do not cover this. We do not have any affiliation with Feal Suspension and were only referred to them when I asked Megan Racing about your concern.

Ok - just asking as I've had my Teins sent out and re-valved at about the 60K mark as they start loosing their feel. Thank you for your feedback.

Okay, got the coilovers installed on my car yesterday. Everything went smoothly except that prior to the installation, I was already in need of an alignment. Since the coilovers can settle during the first several hundred miles of break-in, I have to wait to get the alignment done for probably a couple of weeks.

In any case, there is a major difference over my previous set of coilovers albeit the previous set were completely shot by this time so I'm sure that anything would seem better. The car is much more stable and responsive unlike my previous setup which was bouncy and sometimes out of control, again due to their condition.

As I continue to drive on them and break them in I will give additional feedback on what I find. I will probably play with the dampening adjustment do dial in the ride firmness that feels right for me. Unfortunately, I don't know how they are currently set and it completely slipped my mind to ask the installer how he may have set them if he changed anything at all. They have 32 positions of control with 0 being the firmest and 32 being the softest.

Overall, if you are looking to either lower your car or improve handling or both, I would suggest you pick a set up.

You should get a lifetime alignment at Firestone that way you can get alignments as often as you like. Its about 120 for the lifetime alignment.

You've had them on for a couple weeks now. What is your experience so far? Have you found your sweet spot on the damping? What do you have it set at? Any pics since the install?
