  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Just wanted to confirm my car's remaining gas amount vs gas light

I have noticed the same when I fill up - I go to the station right when the light comes on - and I can only get 16 gallons in the tank.
Good call on keeping the fuel pump cooled, but the other stuff is old school. The pump feeds off the bottom of the tank, so it's always pulling stuff from the bottom. That's what the in-tank fuel screens are for.

..... new fuel pumps rely on the surrounding fuel to act as a cooling agent for fuel pump motor......In hot weather, it could overheat the pump and cause a pump failure.

If you're driving 120mph, pumping 7+ gallons per hour, at 120degF., ya could overheat your fuel pump. Is that how you drive (shades of Vanishing Point)?

I pushed mine past E by 40 miles (421 on the trip meter) and she took 18.5x gallons of fuel to fill up...

yeah I know, but I'm guessing that's why they have the --- (dashes) come when 30 miles remaining so a driver wont destroy the pump
Yassss I didn't know if the miles to go was just a lil off in my car. Thank you for the --- comment. Only had mine come on twice in 4 years, happens between 25-30 miles to go.
