  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Bought a 2012 Genesis 3.8L V6 Sedan on Aug 8. I searched the K&N website and K&N says the correct filter for my car is the 33-2427. I purchased one and discovered that it will not fit. The overall 'trapezoidal' shape is correct, but the filter itself has smaller dimensions than the stock OEM filter, and falls into the air box. I notified K&N of the problem this evening. Has anybody else experienced a similar problem? Is there a correct part number for the 2012 3.8L V6 air filter?

I have read some pro's and con's in regard to the use of the K&N filter. I know some dealers supply them but IMO I would take the filter back and get my refund and just keep the OEM filter. With the improved milage you will get with the 8 speed transmission, IMO I do not think the K&N filter will make that much difference.
Another thing is I would not want to deal with re oiling the K&N filter when it comes time to clean it.

I appreciate your concern, however, every vehicle I own (2004 GMC Envoy XUV, 1990 "Isuzu" (I call it my "Oldzuzu") SpaceCab LS 4x4), 93 Olds Delta 88 and my Suzuki motorcycle, has a K&N filter. I have no issues cleaning and recharging them (I do it twice a year for all my other engines), and with each re-use, the cost goes down. For example, I'm not sure what a new paper filter for the Genny costs, but for my Suzuki motorcycle , the filter costs nearly $40! The KN filter cost me $50, and I've cleaned the filter and recharged it 4 times now (twice a year, instead of changing a paper one). I live in SE Arizona where it can be very dusty, so I keep tabs on my filters all the time. In any case, I wasn't buying the K&N for the Genny as much for the gained HP (two, maybe three?) as for the ability to not have to buy new paper filters. You can get the cleaning and recharge kits, sometimes 2-for-1 (about $19 each) or on sale, which cuts the costs further. So I can clean my filters twice a year and save money instead of replacing once or twice yearly. BTW, the K&N Filter via Amazon was $42 and some change + $3.99 Amazon prime next day shipping. Thx. :)

UPDATE: I am sending the filter back to Amazon for a refund for the time being (no cost to me to ship back). I spoke with a couple of tech folks at K&N in California (and sent them photos of the OEM and K&N "Philters") and it appears that even though this filter had a mold number of 33-2427 stamped in the rubber, and the box it came in had a 33-2427 label, the filter is in fact, the filter for the Genny coupe. Photo shows K&N and OEM filters...More to follow...

UPDATE: I returned the incorrectly-fitting filter to Amazon after talking to K&N tech. So I surfed eBay looking for another one, still convinced and 'verified' by the K&N Website that the 33.2427 fits. SO I ordered another one (33.2427), got it yesterday and it does NOT fit the car either! SO I contacted K&N once again, and was told that the correct filter for the 2012 3.8L V6 engine is a "33-2426". Their website has been "updated" due to my experience (though I did not get a complimentary filter!). The 2nd filter only cost me $17 and shipping, so I'll be sending it back as well. Oh well, such is life.

Hey, if anybody would like it, it cost me $17.99 + $6.99 shipping = $24.98. Add whatever it costs to drop it in the mail to you and it's yours (PayPal). Smokin' deal for sure and saves me from having to RMA it. Since there is no profit in it for me, just let me know or PM me.

UPDATE: I just talked the folks who sold me the filter and they credited my account the cost and they don't want it back, so if anybody wants it, let me know. It is not the coupe but SEDAN filter, 2009 - 2011.

Well, I got some satisfaction from K&N. Since I looked up the wrong filter based on what was on their website, I was able to buy a 33-2426 filter (that does, indeed, fit my 2012 3.8L V6 Lambda engine's air box) directly from K&N for $32.95 (no shipping costs to me). I got it a couple of days ago, installed it, it fine right fine, and I've had it on a couple of known trips (50+ miles) it works rightly as claimed. I'm happy with it.

:)

This is the cross-reference for the 33-2427 filter:

Manufacturer Part Number
HYUNDAI 281133M000

2011 HYUNDAI Genesis 3.8L V6 F/I - Sedan Automotive Air Filter

Do you still have the K&N filter? If yes how much do you want for it and will it definitely fit the 2009 3.8 sedan?

$24.98 but as for the fitment, if you go to the K&N website, and look up the filter for a 2009 Genesis 3.8 L you see:

2009 HYUNDAI Genesis 3.8L V6 F/I - Sedan Automotive Air Filter 33-2427

It's yours if you want/need it. :)

I used to use K&N's on my 05 and 09 VW diesels and had no problems. But many users had Mass Air Flow sensors getting mucked up because of the oil in the K&N. I found out the best way to get instantaneous grief was to question putting a K&N in. Needless to say-I'm back to using oem air filters again.
