  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I'm hoping someone might have some information about a problem I am having with my 2010 Track Edition concerning the key fobs.

When I picked up my car (500 miles from my home town), the salesman told me that they had misplaced the second fob for the car. He promissed to send me a new one as soon as it arrived and pay to have it programmed at my local dealership. No problem, right. Except that when it arrived and I took it in to have it programmed they told me that there was an issue with the Genesis Coupe that did not allow a fob that had once been programmed to be reprogrammed, and a second fob could not be programmed at a later date to match a first. The only option was to have two new "virgin" fobs and program them both at once.

My husband thought I had misunderstood the guy, I mean, that would be ridiculous, right. So he called my salesperson. the salesperson claimed to do some research, and called back to say that our dealership was mistaken. Ok, fine, we called the local service department manager, who did some research, and said no, that really was true. He tried a couple of work arounds that Hyundai Corp. gave him, but was not able to program the second fob. Upon calling the dealership I bought the car from I have now spent three phone calls hearing their service manager give me all sorts of bull shit stories and blame everyone else he can think of.

So, has anyone else ever heard of this problem? If so, any word on a fix? This wouldn't seem like a big deal, but the dealership I bought the car from is actually hinting that they might make me bring the car back to them (8 hours away, and the car is leased, so mileage is an issue) in order to get this corrected.

Gotta tell ya, I love that car, but I am not enjoying the dealership experience. Not enjoying to the point of never buying another Hyundai.

One of the proximity fobs will have a special serial number. If you lose that one then I believe you would need two new fobs. If they lost the one that didn't have the special number then you will need a new, virgin fob for reprogramming although some are saying that any fob (even previously programmed) should work after being programmed. AND....I do believe the car has to be there. If you bring the new fob in but leave your other fob at home, then the "at home" fob would be erased from memory once the new fob was programmed. So it's best to bring everything in.

Our issue seams to be problematic-car fails to start at times. We have taken it in the the Hyundai dealer twice. This week we are taking it in for the third time for the same issue...car will not start.

Has any other Genesis coupe have this issue?

Could be the brake switch. Seems to be a common problem.

Supposedly a brake dust cover was replaced per the TSB. 1 day after the repair, the car would not start. Tommorrow is the 3rd time the car is return for the same starting issue.

We have had the car won't start problem. My wife was at the gas pump next to an electric company service truck. He joked that he might have been the cause, when he left, the car started fine. You can get enough RF interference to override the key FOB and the car won't start. I've read other blogs where people have called tow trucks that moved their car 50 or 100' and then the car started. One tow truck operator even told the owners calling that was the problem before he hooked them up. It happens with my Harley, to the point that the dealer has a list of known problem areas; Wal-Mart parking lots are a favorite!

Hi Guys,
I am planning to purchase this factory scanner off of ebay "http://www.ebay.com/itm/161940639332?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&var=460899216496&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT" to program the key fob. In addition i am also planning to purchase the key from ebay. Can someone please provide any feedback or if they have any experience in using the Hyundai diagnostic device and software in programming the key.
Thanks

Don't know if you resolved the key fob problem but I also got one working keyless start fob and need a second. I purchased on off Ebay with the same FCC ID and they said it could be programmed by the dealership. When I took the car in, they said it would be $50 regardless if it worked or not - well, it didn't work and they said the second fob could not be programmed to the car! At $50 per try, I am not willing to go through this until I find one that can be programmed! What are my options?
