  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Key in car somewhere

Could be stuck inside the front seat somewhere?Seat.webp
My guess is the FOB slid in the crease between the seat cushion (#11) and back cushion (#6), which would roll into the pull out pocket (#3) for the back seat occupant. But #3 wraps around #4 and #9, which hides some of the creases. Maybe it got stuck between #3 & #4, or between #9 and #12? I would try sitting on the back seat, open the back pocket and reach to the bottom gap with you hands that way. Normally, the hand would come out the over the front seat cushion, but the FOB got stuck in some dead corner instead. Or maybe you need to take off #3 and expose the innards? Or could the FOB have fallen out when you took the seat out without you realizing?

Sorry, its probably me, but I am still not understanding what you are describing. Why does the fob being dead have have anything to do with the spare working?

You can't lock the car for example with the key in it. Obviously there are ways to subvert that, but using the spare to lock the car by pushing the lock button would not work-because the other key is in the car somewhere. I am assuming that the original fob battery has died and that is why I can now use the spare to lock and unlock the car by pushing the button. I think the fact that the alarm went on and off for 3 days hastened the dying of the original fob battery...

wow thanks for this. definite no to it falling out when we took the seat out cuz it was in the driveway and all. We could touch fingers from the back of the gap through to the front. I will show this to my husband and see if we can take#11 off that seems most likely although it would have to be really really stuck because you would think when you lift the seat out and examine up down and around the fob would make a noise getting tossed around. Thanks again for this pic. Thanks very much

can't in my car.. G80 Sport

if there is a fob in the car:

the trunk lock button doesn't work

Yes, to Mr. Incredible that is what I think exactly. I still want to find it though because geez, how much would a new fob cost??

See this is want does not make sense.
In the G90 at least you CAN lock the car with the fob if the other key is in the car. You just can’t lock it with the touch door button. He would have needed to test it by trying lo lock with the outside handle (assuming it has that feature) to test if the key is in the car.

the door lock button doesn't work
another fob doesn't work

car beeps at you with a long sustained alert.

I know this because I left my wallet my backpack in my trunk which had my Smart Card in it. tried to lock the car with all of the above and couldn't figure out what the hell was wrong with the car and why it would not lock. Until I realized I didn't have my wallet..

I’m having the same issue. I’m in a g70. I’ve literally searched every single inch of this car so I’d like to believe. It’s IN the car.
