  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

"Key not detected", fob not working

I have a 2017 g80 3.8, and seem to burn thru replacement key fob batteries every 3 -6 months. As noted in previous posts, fob battery voltage below 3.0 generally indicates the key fob will send out weaker signal and may not get recognized by the ignition system.

In comparison, my 2017 f150 key fobs batteries are lasting up to 3 yrs before replacement is needed.

What is going on with the Genesis key fob battery limited life? Does this key fob send out a stronger signal which depletes the battery faster or ?? Sure is aggravating.

I am having the same issue with my 2013 Hyundai Genesis coupe. Both FOBs just quit working at the same time. For both FOBs to go dead at the same time makes me believe it is with the car and not the FOBs. I also can't believe you cant use the key to override the FOB in situations like this. Fortunately, my car was at home when this happened. Here is what I have dome so far.
Changed batteries in both FOBs- did not work
Flipped the new batteries in both FOBs-did not work
Removed the negative and positive car battery- did not work
Inserted both FOBs in the console slot-did not work
Flipped the FOBs in the console slot-did not work
Held the start button for 10 seconds in the ACC mode (per operator's manual)-did not work
Went to the service department in La Quinta- closed due to Covid until Decmeber 27
Next, going to Palm Springs dealer to see if they can fix it.

I have run into the same problem as many others have with my fob not being recognized anymore. The spare fob works but, not the original. I was able to open the vehicle using the emergency key in the door handle and it started one time. I shut it off and got a message that the fob battery was low. So, I changed to a new battery which had 3.3volts in it. The one I took out was 2.98V... which is not bad. Now that fob won't work at all. No key detected. Charged again to another new battery, still nothing. Alarm goes off when I open the door with that fob in hand. It is a 2018 G90 with just over 6,900 miles. I don't drive it much and not in the winter, so it does sit for 3-5 months at a time. I charge the main battery up occasionally and keep it topped off. I have already gone through one car battery before 3-year warranty was up which Genesis replaced. That original battery would not take any charge. These vehicles seem to have electrical issues. My problem is that there is no dealer within 90 miles of me. I can't believe a fob would just quit like that. Battery was checked before replacing to fob. Battery was put in correctly. It totally lost its register. Won't start the vehicle by pushing start button with fob. Nothing. Did anyone run into this problem and find a fix?

Similar issues. 2012 Equus. 80k miles. Problems started in the last few months. Changed batteries twice, topped up trunk battery, still 900-1000 cca on the meter. On and off not registering the fob. Sometimes it won't register but when I touch the door handle it reacts sometimes not. On and off inside the car also. Sometimes starts other times it needs the fob in the glove box slot. Now the trunk release is not working at all. Won't work with the under dash release either now. I did find the positive terminal loose at one point a couple weeks back so so wondering if a short or surge damaged something? At 80k this thing is calling apart! Head gasket went, two suspension air bladders leaked, front and rear window assembles failed side view mirrors clicking at unlock or lock and won't fold in...

I’m having the same issues my key fob will not register to my car and i change the battery in the key fob 3 times but my car does start up without me inserting my key fob, I just can’t lock or unlock my car with my key fob. Does anybody know what i should do?
Did you ever get a solution? I am having the same problem. I called the dealership and they are absolutely NO help! :(

If you have already replaced the battery, have you tried flipping the battery over and inserting it the other way? This was my problem when my battery died. I swear I tried inserting it different ways, but after reading another post I tried again out of sheer desperation and that was, embarrassingly enough, my problem.

If any one help to solve problem please feedback us

My car works only if I unlock it via key button, and put the key in the socket near the stereo. So so incredibly sad!

I'm having the same issue as well

I had a problem with both fobs within one month. First some of the buttons did not work, then I had tot press the fob against the start button to start the car. Replacing the batteries did not fix the problem. I found refurbished fobs on eBay for just under $100 and paid $180 for programming. Both fobs now work fine for a lot less than the dealer charges. Recommend finding a locksmith that has the equipment to do the programming that will only charge if successfully programmed (one locksmith was willing to do the work with no guarantee) Also make sure the fob is unlocked.

Had same issue after changing battery this evening. Key fob not recognized. Found video online saying that, for many makes/models, you have to put the safety key in the driver door and lock/unlock it six times to perform a reset. Did that. Now my key fob is again recognized. Odd - as I don't recall having to do this the first time I change the battery in my key fob years ago. But this approach solved it for me (with 2017 G80).

My 2012 Genesis 6-cylinder sedan just started not reognizing the key fob a coiuple of days ago. I replaced the battery in both fobs a couple months ago without any problems, and the car battery was replaced about 18 months ago. I tried the safety key lock-unlock routine, and it works - but only for a short time. I suspect the problem is with a faulty signal receiver somewhere under the dash.

Have you tried replacing the battery in the fob again?
Do you have a second fob to try ?

I had the same problem my 2009 4.6 Genesis fob will die after a few months. Sometimes the genesis do not like the battery brand. So my 2 cents solution was I bought a eveready battery from target and now I have no problem fob dying. The key is it has to be an eveready battery and target battery to make sure it is not fake.

Not eveready battery, but ENERGIZER battery
