  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Does anyone else think it strange that there is so little information out there for a car that is supposedly going on sale in 4 months? I was in Chicago at the auto show last weekend and had a good look at the Equus and liked it very much. After checking out the car I spent a good 30 minutes just sitting nearby and observing reactions of people upon seeing the Equus. Was very interesting to see how surprised people looked. Was told by the reps there that the Equus is still on track for June. After getting home I checked at all three local dealerships and got pretty much the same story... no info, no knowledge, no nothing.

If I was a betting man I'd say there is no way June is going to happen (at least here in Nebraska!)

My understanding is that they've all been spoken for.

Yeah, and the other crazy thing is that I called a local dealer the other day and the SALES person who i talked to had no idea what an EQUUS was. She didn't know what I was talking about. She had to put me on hold and get someone else to assist me and even then, that person didn't have any valuable info. I love the car tho.!!!!

I don't think it is strange at all. The details of most new car launches are kept quiet until the car becomes available. Part of the reason is for competitive purposes, but mainly because they want the ability to make last minute changes to things like pricing.

It's also very common for the customer to know more about the cars then the sales people. The buyer has researched the product to death, while the sales person probably knows the bare minimum. He looks at it like a commodity, you look at it like as a massive allocation of capital.

A true contender to the luxury market? We'll see as it get launched and thoroughly compared - but at this pricepoint, and following the footsteps of the success of the Genesis, you can bet it will be

Thanks for the info.

I'll be really disappointed though if that's the features list and the price is closer to $60K than $50K. In short, that list reads a lot like the Genesis 4.6 with a bigger body, a few more appointments and features, and improved materials. With the Ultimate Package (which seems either like an executive car or for some really spoiled kids), price will be pushing mid 60s :(

EDIT: Okay, it does have air suspension, but I'd still like it to be closer to 50K ;)

Good information on the Equus. I saw a photo and video on the web of it. It's going to be a real head turn (like the Genesis) and shows that Hyundai is in the game.

According to Edmunds, the MSRP for the base model is $55.7K.

My guess is also right around $50k, maybe $52-53k., competing with F-types, M35, GS350, E-class, 5-series, A6. The one more limo than sedan will probably be a $5k more, but my guess is few and far between.

It's going to have a much softer ride than the Genesis, so not sure why people here are interested in the Equus.

My dealer says it'll likely increase sales of the Gen, that people will say EXACTLY what you said: "that list reads a lot like the Genesis 4.6 with a bigger body, a few more appointments and features, and improved materials."

He also says it'll top out at 53K.

I think the new Sonata may increase sales of the Genesis. Not that people looking at the Sonata will buy a Genesis instead, but, if the Sonata is the hit that some think, the brand image will be improved and people who shop the Avalon, Maxima, LaCrosse, et. al. may be more inclined to look at the Genesis as well.
